Pay Range: $18.09-$20.06 per hour
POSITION SUMMARY
Patrol all areas of the property; assist guests with room access. Monitor Closed Circuit Televisions, perimeter alarm system, duress alarms, and fire life safety system. Lock property entrances when required. Conduct daily physical hazard inspections. Respond to accidents, contact EMS or administer first aid/CPR as required. Assist guests/employees during emergency situations. Notify appropriate individuals in the event of accidents, attacks, or other incidents. Defuse guest/employee disturbances. Call for outside assistance if necessary. Complete incident reports to document all Security/Loss Prevention related incidents. Handle all interruptions and complaints. Resolve safety hazard situations. Escort any unwelcome persons from the property without interrupting the orderly flow of property operation. Report to scenes of vehicle accidents/thefts. Call for assistance using proper code responses. Complete a Loss Prevention shift summary/daily activity report. Maintain confidentiality of all Security/Loss Prevention and property reports/documents; release information only to authorized individuals. Conduct investigations and gather evidence. Conduct interviews with relevant parties.
Follow all company policies and procedures; report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to manager; complete safety training and certifications; ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional; maintain confidentiality of proprietary information; protect company assets. Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards; anticipate and address guests' service needs; assist individuals with disabilities; thank guests with genuine appreciation. Speak with others using clear and professional language; prepare and review written documents accurately and completely. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others; support team to reach common goals. Comply with quality assurance expectations and standards. Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time. In addition, some states may have additional licensing/registration requirements to be considered for this position. Read and visually verify information in a variety of formats (e.g., small print). Visually inspect tools, equipment, or machines (e.g., to identify defects). Enter and locate work-related information using computers and/or point of sale systems. Move at a speed required to respond to work situations (e.g., run, walk, jog). Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire work shift. Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance and objects weighing in excess of 75 pounds with assistance. Grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying size and weight, requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Move through narrow, confined, or elevated spaces. Move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces as well as up and down stairs and/or service ramps. Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. Summary of Position
The Public Safety Officer is responsible for fostering and maintaining a safe learning and working environment for the Augsburg University Community. Available Officer Schedules
Overnight shift: 10:00PM - 6:30AM
Days the officer is scheduled are negotiable, and regularly scheduled weekend shifts are required.
Primary Responsibilities
Creating and maintaining a safe learning and working environment for members of the Augsburg University Community.
Provide required services to the Augsburg University Community, including: walking or driving escorts, locking and unlocking of campus buildings according to class schedules and events, and providing information and assistance to the community as needed.
Respond to emergency and non-emergency requests for assistance. Initiate and coordinate Police, Fire, and EMS response as needed.
Monitor campus activities and facilities through proactive patrol and observation.
Identify after hours' facilities issues and assist in the coordination of emergency maintenance response.
Prepare required incident reports completely and accurately for all security and safety related activities.
Regularly monitor and use critical infrastructure systems, including: CCTV systems, fire alarm panels, automation systems, alarms, access card systems, and parking enforcement systems.
All other duties as apparent or assigned by supervisor(s).

JOB SUMMARY
Public Safety plays a major role in protecting the St. Thomas community, and has a proven history of educating, training and enhancing the job skills necessary for professional career advancement in policing and the private security industries. Full time employees are eligible for 100% tuition remission applicable toward bachelor's degrees including sociology or criminal justice/law enforcement and master's degrees including police leadership following one year of full time employment.
Public Safety Officers at the University of St. Thomas work 12-hour shifts. A determination as to which shift is available, day or evening shift, may not be made until the six month training period has been completed. During the training period, new hires will train on both the day and evening shifts. This schedule is subject to change, dependent on business needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Protect life, safeguard property and maintain peace and order at two urban campus locations through enforcement of local, state and federal laws as well as university rules and regulations
* Proactively patrol a residential community of nearly 2,500 people
* Prevent crime
* Respond to emergency situations
* Work closely with local police and emergency service personnel
* Establish and foster community relationships
* Conduct preliminary investigations involving criminal or suspicious activity
* Prepare, write and file reports
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience Required:
* High School diploma or the equivalent (e.g., GED)
* Two years of relevant public safety experience
OR
* Associate's degree in a relevant field plus completion of relevant Skills training
Required Qualifications:
* Must have a valid driver's license
* Must be able to pass the self-defense and training programs within the first six months of training as a condition of employment
* The initial training programs require day-time and night-time work in the first six months
Additional Qualifications:
* Knowledge of procedures for effective security, codes and regulations related to the work, law enforcement procedures and terminology, and techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, in person, often where relations may be confrontational or strained
* Understanding of law enforcement and legal issues that impact campus public safety officer duties basic computer applications related to the work

Works under the general guidance and direction of the Shift Sergeant or other superior officers as necessary, to perform law enforcement work in the protection of life, property, and the civil rights of individual citizens. Officers of this rank enforce City, County, State and Federal Statutes, laws and ordinances. Police officers preserve peace; prevent, detect and investigate accidents and crimes; arrest violators; and provide aid and comfort to citizens in emergency situations. General responsible include traffic, patrol and general law enforcement, policy community relations, and record keeping and reports.

* Performs Police duties including walking, bicycle, and vehicle patrols, traffic control, preparing reports and responding to emergency situations.
* Directs traffic to ensure rapid vehicular flow and to protect pedestrians from injury. Continual assignments also involve being alert to detect unusual or suspicious circumstances, arresting persons committing offenses, and issuing traffic violation tickets.
* Independently performs a variety of line police duties to maintain law and order and preserve the peace. Exercises arrest authority in motor vehicle violations, misdemeanors and other minor crimes, as well as apprehending persons guilty of felonies.
* Officers patrolling are to be alert to detect conditions and situations which vary from the norm. Position stops, questions suspicious persons, and if necessary, detains them.
* Investigates and determines the cause of a broken window, abandoned automobile, crowd of people or related situations.
* Responds to emergency calls and investigates accidents, robberies, civil disturbances, complaints, domestic disputes, fights, drunkenness, missing children, reports of prowlers, and other situations as required.
* Assists the injured and administers first aid, summons assistance, takes measurements, prepares diagrams, interviews witness and persons involved, preserves evidence, arrests violators and prepares written reports when conducting a preliminary accident or crime investigation. Appears in court, presents evidence, and assists in the prosecution of cases.
* Performs work in accordance with departmental rules and regulations.
* Assists citizens in non-public and non-emergency situations, using appropriate equipment and/or techniques. If unable to assist, the officer will advise who or what is available to address the citizen's problem properly.
* Usage of radio communications and computers in accordance with City policies and Federal regulations.
* Performs related work as required, which may include investigation or plain-clothes work.
* Regular and reliable attendance during scheduled work hours and outside regular hours as necessary.

Must possess:
* Good geographical knowledge of the city.
* Knowledge and skill in application of first aid principles.
* Skill in the use and care of firearms and other police weapons.

Meet the education or reciprocity requirements set by the Minnesota Board of Peace Officer Standards and must be licensed or eligible to be licensed as a full-time police officer by the Minnesota Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training. Eligible to be licensed is defined as having completed the academic, skills training and passing the license exam.
Successfully complete a thorough Coon Rapids Police Department background investigation, psychological examination, comprehensive medical examination, drug testing and agility test.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Community and Patron Engagement
