WEST CHESTER, PA - Date - The Chester County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) announces a change in qualification requirements for its Deputy Sheriff I positions. Effective immediately, Act 120 or Act 2 certification is not required in advance of a career as a Chester County Deputy Sheriff. The County will now offer paid-for certification training from the hiring start-date.
Those seeking to be hired at the entry level Deputy Sheriff position with Chester County government will receive a Deputy Sheriff 1 salary and benefits, and must complete the Act 120 or Act 2 certification within one year of employment. The County will cover the cost of training alongside the salary.
The move to offer paid-for training as a Chester County Deputy Sheriff follows the recent extensive review of salaries for all positions in the CCSO. Combined with valuable County benefits, the paid-for training offers good career opportunities for those seeking to work in law enforcement.
Law enforcement recruits must complete 919 hours of coursework and training, typically over nine months, to become Act 120 certified. Act 2 certification requires recruits to complete 760 hours in a six-month residential program.

Widener University is currently seeking a full-time 2nd shift Campus Safety Officer. This position is outdoors and averages 40 hours a week, 10 hours a day, 3:00 PM to 1:00 AM. This position reports to the Lieutenant on duty. Campus Safety Officers are responsible for ensuring the safety and general well-being of all University community members, safeguarding university property and enforcing university policies and rules. Emphasis will be on responding to all calls for service and fostering good community relations and providing professional service.
COMPENSATION:
Starting Pay Rate - $18.00 per hour
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):
Essential duties:
* Serve as a designated Campus Security Authority (CSA) in accordance with the requirements of the Clery Act.
* Conduct proactive and visible patrols of assigned areas on foot, by vehicle, or by using other means of transportation to deter and detect potential security threats.
* Respond to all calls for service in a professional and timely manner, perform an initial investigation, if necessary, and work to resolve the situation.
* Respond to reports of irregularities such as fire hazards, facilities/mechanical malfunctions, physical altercations, accidents and criminal activities.
* Inspect premises to identify potential security risks or vulnerabilities.
* Handle conflicts or disputes in a calm and professional manner.
* Prepare reports accurately and objectively detailing incidents on and off campus.
* Act as a point of contact for inquiries or concerns, offering a helpful and approachable demeanor.
* Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency services when necessary.
* Performs other duties as assigned or directed.
Secondary responsibilities:
* Flexibility to work additional shifts as needed or required, including but not limited to the dispatch office on campus
* Assist with University athletic/special events
* Manage crowds during events or peak times to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
* Report any maintenance issues, such as malfunctioning lights, lock issues, ect.
* Coordinate with other emergency services and agencies during critical incidents
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required):
Required:
* High school diploma or equivalent
* Valid driver's license
* Experience in a customer service or security related field
* Ability to interact professionally with the public
* Ability to operate a computer, radio or equipment located in a vehicle or hand held
* Demonstrated ability to tactfully and effectively communicate (written and verbal) with the university community and colleagues
* Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
* Ability to handle difficult situations tactfully
* Must successfully pass a criminal background check to include the PA Criminal PA Child Abuse and FBI clearance
Preferred:
* Experience working in higher education or a school environment
* Law enforcement, military, campus or public safety experience
* Familiarity with the local area and surrounding community

At least two (2) years of experience working in a correctional setting, one of which was in a position requiring supervisory capabilities and managerial responsibilities.
Must be mature, flexible, intellectually alert, able to command the respect and confidence of incarcerated persons and staff, philosophically committed to the objectives of the facility, applicable court orders, and possess a high tolerance to mental stress.
Ability to work with computers and the necessary software used by the department.
Ability to physically perform the essential duties of the position, including, but not limited to, sitting and walking at will, walking/standing and/or sitting for long periods, lifting heavy objects, crouching/kneeling, bending at waist, close and far vision, reaching, handling/ grasping/fingering objects, hearing sounds/communication, and physically restraining inmates during emergency situations.

The Security Operator II position is a non-sworn civilian position responsible for serving as a communications liaison while providing dignitary protection to Common Pleas Court Judges, Hearing Officers, and other elected officials and executives on a case-by-case basis as determined by the Sheriff's Office. Essential Duties
Provide close protection and other security-related functions for the Judge and/or assigned client.

Operate and maintain protective, operations, and communications equipment.
Promptly identify and communicate vulnerabilities and safety concerns directly to the Sheriff's Office Judicial Security Operations Unit.
Complete a variety of written reports, logs, or forms as required or directed by the Sheriff's Office.
Maintain a favorable image to the public and county employees while providing assistance.
Maintain custody of and return all legally possessed confiscated items to the owners upon completion of their business.
Assist Sheriff's Deputies with counter-surveillance and protective operations, when necessary, as directed. These tasks may include, but are not limited to:
Participate in advance protective planning and threat vulnerability assessments.
Effectively manage requests by the protectees against the need to maintain safety and security for the protectees, employees, and the public.
Respond to emergencies to provide assistance, perform medical operations, and ensure site security. This may involve the deployment of non-lethal weapons.
Perform all other duties, tasks and special projects, as required.

JOB SUMMARY:
Lincoln University seeks Campus Police Officers.
