Duties

Position Summary
The Cadet is a non-sworn officer in a trainee capacity. SRJC has approximately 20,000 students, faculty, and staff a semester combined with multiple sites across Sonoma County.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Examples of key duties are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature. Incumbents routinely perform approximately 80% of the duties below.
1. Patrols District property, surrounding areas, and facilities utilized by the District by vehicle, bicycle, or on foot to deter, locate, discover, and apprehend persons committing crimes.
2. Responds to calls related to the protection of life and property, traffic incidents, and other emergencies.

5. Conducts preliminary and follow-up investigations of disturbances, criminal incidents, hazardous incidents, vehicle accidents, and deaths. Collects and maintains evidence, interrogates suspects, and interviews victims, complainants, and witnesses.
6. Prepares criminal reports, responds to subpoenas, and testifies in court.
7. Operates the California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS) and other law enforcement computer systems.
8. Manages caseload of registered sex offenders, including initial registration, follow up, and coordination with the California Department of Justice.
9. Provides traffic and crowd control, responds to life threatening situations, and provides non-police related support services.
10. Implements district emergency preparedness plan including emergency evacuation plans. Secures perimeters and coordinates fire, medical, communication, utilities, and other emergency services.
11. May collect and transport monies from parking permit machines and meters. May perform minor repairs to parking meters and permit machines.
12. Responds to questions from students, employees, and the general public regarding laws, ordinances, incidents, or services.
13. Prepares and maintains records, reports, and files. Provides documentation to appropriate state, federal, and local agencies.
14. May be given special assignments including cadet coordinator, communications training or field training officer, certified instructor, and/or detective.

GPOA/REPRESENTED POSITION
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt/Hourly
This is an entry-level, non-sworn position in the Police Department. Incumbents are assigned to or are currently attending a P.O.S.T. Basic Academy and must satisfactorily pass all of the requirements that lead to the possession of the P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate in addition to passing all phases of the background process. An assignment to this classification is temporary and the incumbent is considered "at-will". Appointment to a sworn Police Officer position is contingent upon successful completion of the academy and background process then followed by final review by the Police Chief.
Under direction of a Police Sergeant or Field Training Officer, the Police Officer Recruit attends a designated California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) approved police academy to learn, train and successfully perform all activities related to the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform in the capacity of a sworn City of Galt Police Officer and performs related work as required.

Position Summary
The Cadet is a non-sworn officer in a trainee capacity. Incumbents attend a Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certified academy to develop the minimum qualifications necessary to assume a position as a sworn police officer. SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Age:
Must be at least 21 years of age by the date of appointment.
Driver License:
Possession of a valid California Class C Driver license at the time of appointment. Loss of the license is cause for discipline.
Respiratory Protective Equipment:
Work in this class requires wearing respiratory protective equipment at times. When assigned to such work, facial hair must be shaven when it interferes with the safe fitting of respiratory protective equipment.
Felony Convictions:
Free of felony convictions under California Government Code Section 1029.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD
Employees hired as a lateral entry must complete twelve (12) months of probation at a satisfactory performance level prior to gaining permanent status. 2. Supplemental Questionnaire: (Pass/Fail) - In addition to the City of Sacramento employment application, all applicants must complete and submit online responses to the supplemental questionnaire to the City of Sacramento Employment Office by the final filing deadline;
* Responses to the supplemental questionnaire must be submitted online; paper questionnaire will not be accepted.
* Incomplete supplemental questionnaire will not pass the review process; omitted information cannot be considered or assumed.
* A resume will not substitute for the information required in the supplemental questionnaire.
3. Online Exam: (Pass/Fail)- Candidates must have taken and passed the online examination with a score of 70% for further consideration. Only applicants who have successfully passed the City of Sacramento's Entry Level Law Enforcement Examination will be referred to the department after the final filing deadline. The online examination will be job related and may include, but not limited to, the knowledge and abilities as outlined above. 4. Eligibility: Candidates who pass the online examination will be placed on the eligible list. Candidate's eligibility expires two years from the date of notification of a passing score for the City of Sacramento's Entry Level Law Enforcement Examination. Candidates can take the examination at any time to maintain eligibility.
* If you are currently on an active eligible list for the Police Officer Recruit or the Community Service Officer I classification, it is unnecessary to retake the examination.
* The eligible list is effective two years from the date of passing the examination for the Police Officer Recruit or the Community Service Officer I.
TEST EXEMPTION - If you have previously taken one of the following exams within two years of the final filing date and earned a passing score as listed below, you may be considered exempt from the Entry Level Law Enforcement Exam. To receive consideration for exemption, you must have:
* Earned a T-Score of 45 or higher on the P.O.S.T. Certified Entry Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) exam
* Received a passing score on the City of Sacramento's Entry Level Law Enforcement Exam
* Have selected yes to the Online Examination, Proof of Examination, and Test Exemption from the City Of Sacramento's Entry Level Law Enforcement Examination supplemental questions included in this job posting.
