Job Details:
This position is responsible for the provision of law enforcement functions, technical aspects of law enforcement, coordination of specialty functions and security services for the department and campus. This position reports to and works under the general supervision of a Lieutenant. Depending upon circumstances, situations and operations, this position may also report to the Chief/Director and his or her designee.
Key Job Responsibilities:
A. Performance of law enforcement functions.
A1. Detection of violations of State laws and WI Administrative Code which occur within the legal jurisdiction of the department.
A2. Take appropriate corrective action including warning, citing or arresting suspected violators (criminal, traffic or alcohol related offenses).
A3. Conduct investigations of alleged or suspected criminal activity to arrest the perpetrator of the crime or to deter occurrences of any future criminal activity.
A4. Interview complainants, witnesses, suspects and others who may have knowledge of the violation in order to obtain facts and information.
A5. Record and document incidents by preparing written reports concerning those incidents.
A6. Collect and preserve physical evidence at crime scene to be used later for prosecution of arrested individual(s) and to maintain the chain of evidence.
A7. Make lawful arrests or detentions of suspected violators by taking them into physical custody and independently determining whether perpetrators should be incarcerated or released pending court appearance.
A8. Photograph and fingerprint suspect(s) who have been arrested when necessary.
A9. Provide court testimony for cases designated by the district attorney's office(s).
A10. Enforce parking regulations by taking appropriate actions (citing and/or towing).
A11. Patrol all areas of campus, by either foot or motorized patrol, to provide security and protection to those areas. Patrol utilizing a bicycle is also authorized for Police Officers who have successfully completed a Police Cyclist Training Program.
A12. Provide assistance to other law enforcement agencies as necessary.
A13. Perform other departmental duties as assigned by Lieutenant, Assistant Chief, Chief/Director and/or his or her designee.
B. Performance of security and various other services to the University community.
B1. Develop and give presentations concerning law enforcement or crime awareness/prevention topics to various groups as assigned.
B2. Provide money escorts to local banks.
B3. Provide crowd control and traffic direction.
B4. Identify and make necessary reports of security, safety and repair problems.
B5. Report obvious safety deficiencies, which are found during patrols of campus buildings, facilities or grounds, to the appropriate staff responsible for the repair or correction. Some of these safety deficiencies may include lights not functioning, trip hazards, exposed electrical wiring, and obstructed emergency exits or other potential dangers.
B6. Provide directions, information or other services to faculty, staff, students and the general public as individual situations require.
B7. Assist Emergency Medical Services personnel during incidents of medical crisis, as needed and within the scope of training.
C. Performance of technical aspects of law enforcement.
C1. Maintain proficiency and meet department standards in areas of CPR/Basic Life Support, firearms, defensive tactics, physical fitness and emergency vehicle operation.
C2. Attend classes and in-service training to maintain and enhance current law enforcement knowledge and skills.
C3. Attend specialized classes to obtain skills and training.
D. Performance or coordination of specialty functions for the department.
D1. Satisfactorily perform specialty functions, which are assigned, to support department operations and mission. Some of these functions may include areas such as Education/Crime Prevention Officer, Court Officer, Firearms Instructor, DAAT Instructor, Bicycle Patrol Officer, Evidence Custodian, Crime Scene Technician, Shift or Event Officer-in-Charge, Hazardous Materials, National Incident Management System or any other comparable area of specialization or coordination as needed by the department.

Well-qualified candidates can expect a minimum starting hourly wage of $27.00 based upon education, related experience, and qualifications.
Individuals with prior experience, current officers, or retired officers can start as high as $35.00/hr.
4-day work week and 3-day weekends. Start with 104 hours of paid vacation time and 108 hours of paid holidays.
On-duty time for physical fitness.
K9 Units, Bike Patrol, Sensitive Crimes Team, among other specialties within the Department.

Required Qualifications:
Must be able to complete a WI Department of Justice "Law Enforcement Recruit" training course and become certified as a Law Enforcement Officer in Wisconsin; OR already be certified by the WI Law Enforcement Standards Board as a Law Enforcement Officer
Candidates cannot have any unpardoned felony convictions or convictions for situations involving domestic violence
A post-secondary degree OR a minimum of 60 credits of post-secondary education from an accredited school OR the ability to obtain a College Credit Waiver through the Wisconsin Department of Justice Law Enforcement Standards Board
Must possess a valid WI Driver's License with a good record, which includes non-convictions for which the license was suspended/revoked
Must be at least 18 years of age, of good character and be "free from any physical, emotional or mental condition which might adversely affect performance" as a law enforcement officer
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Extensive knowledge of statutory provisions relating to the making of arrests and handling prisoners
Considerable knowledge of state and local laws pertaining to enforcement activities
Considerable knowledge of modern crime prevention and detection techniques

OBJECTIVE:
Under the general direction of the Shift or Division Supervisor, performs work in the enforcement of law and maintenance of order, protection of life and property, and prevention of crime. * The Janesville Police Department accepts lateral transfers from qualified law enforcement agencies. Such placement shall not affect the new employee's seniority for any other purpose. *

Occupational Summary

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Interacts in a professional manner with members of the campus and community while building and maintaining relationships that allow individuals who come with diverse social identities from many different cultures to feel comfortable in approaching and communicating with the officer.
Patrols designated buildings and grounds of the College campus on a continuous basis in order to identify and assess situations that may affect the security and safety of the College and the College community.
Protects life and property of the College and College community. Reports unusual or suspicious activities and inappropriate use of College facilities or property.
Provides directions, personal escorts, and assistance to students, employees, and the general public in a courteous, respectful, and efficient manner when requested or needed.
Perform daily checks of all campus buildings and floors, which may include: locking and unlocking entry doors, checking authorized building uses, monitoring for safety concerns/hazards, inspecting mechanical equipment areas and reporting malfunctions to Facilities or other relevant departments as needed if correction isn't possible.
Responds to calls for service, which could involve resolving lockouts, housekeeping, maintenance or other issues as directed. Notifies relevant staff during business hours, or on-call staff after hours.
Responds to emergencies or preliminary investigations of incidents in a timely manner, including but not limited to, medical / psychological / emotional emergencies, natural disasters, trespassing, theft, vandalism, threats of violence and disturbances. Identifies the source or cause of the problem, handles it effectively, and coordinates with appropriate campus or other public officials.
Checks identification cards and gathers pertinent information from complainants, participants, or witnesses to incidents. Completes any necessary administrative forms & provides factual, descriptive, typed reports.
Maintains regular radio contact with dispatch to log what buildings they've checked, report unusual situations, and to request back up when necessary.
Appears in court regarding incidents that occurred in the campus community when necessary.
Conducts monthly fire equipment and other safety equipment inspections as scheduled or needed.
Provides transportation for hospital trips and bank runs when necessary.
Fulfill and perform all the duties required of the Security Dispatcher position.
Activates the Emergency Alert notification system and scripts Community Alerts as needed.

Credentials and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent.
Formal training and/or experience in a related field preferred.

* Provides assistance and performs necessary tasks associated with casino operations and gambling activities in compliance with IGB regulations, including but not limited to, asset protection and movement, access control, and facility security.
* Notifies Security managers, supervisors, and the Director of Security, as necessary, of all emergencies and urgent conditions and circumstances that come to their attention.
* Contacts law enforcement team members, fire team members, and other relevant organizations during emergency situations as necessary.
* Perform the duties and responsibilities associated with the Illinois Gaming Board Statewide Voluntary Self-Exclusion Program as described in Section A of the HRCR ICS.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND /OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
(Related education and experience may be interchangeable on a year for year basis)
High School Diploma or equivalent is required. One (1) year of security related experience preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: (Licenses, Certifications, Testing, etc):
* Must obtain and maintain valid licenses / certifications per Federal, State, and Gaming regulations.
* Must successfully pass background check.
* Prior experience in the Gaming industry strongly preferred.
* Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
* Must have a VALID Driver's License that has not been suspended, denied, or revoked in the past 3 years.
* No Major Violations while operating a vehicle.
* Cannot have two (2) or more at fault accidents or three (3) or more moving violations.
* Drivers of company vehicles must have a valid driver's license and meet the requirements/standards listed on the Motor Vehicle Permit Application provided by Hard Rock.
* Must be able to obtain CPR/AED certificate and pass Blood Borne Pathogen training.
