Flex Officer Explanation
The Flex Officer position is crucial to our company's operational and financial success. The flex officer provides trained, competent support by working shifts which become open due to illness, call-offs, weather, vacation, or other causes. This enables Sunstates to provide continual, uninterrupted service to our customers, while also protecting the health and work balance of our personnel.
Scheduling Expectations
The scheduling parameters and expectations for a flex officer are different from those of an employee assigned to a fixed post. As a flex:
You will be trained at various posts and /or facilities based on operational need. While you may work at a specific post or location for several weeks due to need, this will not be a permanent assignment.
Your schedule (shifts, days off, hours per week, etc.) will vary based on operational need.
You will be assigned to, or offered the opportunity to accept, shifts as they become available due to staffing needs.
Some of your shifts will be scheduled in advance and posted with the new week's schedule. Sometimes you will be called with short notice and asked to come in to cover for someone who is unable to work their shift.
You are expected to work any shift for which you are scheduled in advance which falls within the availability described on this sheet. If you know you will be unavailable on an upcoming date or time that would normally fall within your availability described on this sheet, you must communicate this with your supervisor, so they know not to schedule you.

Incumbent serves as Courthouse Security Officer for Sheriff, responsible for providing security for the Courthouse and annexes.
DUTIES:
Conducts foot patrols of assigned buildings and parking lots, responds to emergency security and medical calls, and investigates citizen and courthouse personnel complaints.
Maintains courtroom security while in session, including searching suspects/arrestees and facilities, seizing weapons and/or contraband.
Detains subjects by court order or as needed, including maintaining custody of detainees in holding area in absence of Deputy. Escorts detainees to and from courtroom.
Serves various legal documents as assigned, such as summonses, court orders to appear, and notices of hearings. Delivers returned documents to appropriate individuals/departments as required.
Tests communication and emergency response equipment to ensure proper functioning.
Examines firearms used as evidence in court proceedings to ensure safety of court personnel and the public.
Maintains appearance and serviceability of all issued and/or required vehicles, equipment, uniforms, and weapons.
Periodically attends meetings and training sessions as required.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Requirements
I. JOB REQUIREMENTS AND DIFFICULTY OF WORK:
High School Diploma or GED, law enforcement experience preferred.
Ability to pass polygraph examination.
Ability to meet all departmental hiring and retention requirements, including not posing a direct threat to the health and safety of other individuals in the workplace.
Ability to qualify by obtaining a passing score in the Handgun Course of Fire, as required by the standards of the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board.
Working knowledge of universal health precautions and ability to apply such knowledge in the field to protect oneself from infection, and knowledge of standard practices and procedures in administering first aid/CPR.
Working knowledge of and ability to make practical application of customary practices, procedures, rules and regulations of the department, and County justice systems. Ability to obey all written and oral orders/directives from department superiors.
Ability to appropriately receive, secure and account for articles received in evidence, personal belongings of inmates, and monies.
Working knowledge of and ability to use and properly maintain assigned department vehicles, equipment, uniforms, and weapons, such as calculator, radio, stun belt, metal detectors, handcuffs, tear gas/mace, and handgun.
Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling, and punctuation, and ability to maintain confidentiality of department information and reports as required.
Ability to physically perform the essential duties of the position, including sitting for long periods, bending, carrying objects, reaching, far vision, and hearing sounds/communication.
Ability to deal swiftly, rationally, and decisively with potentially violent individuals in precarious situations, de-escalate volatile situations by means of conversation/negotiation, and use physical force as situations demand.
Ability to effectively listen, comprehend and communicate with the co-workers, other County departments, other law enforcement agencies, jail detainees, court personnel, and the public by radio, telephone, in person or in writing, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.
Ability to work alone and with others in a team environment with minimum direct supervision.
Ability to occasionally work extended, irregular, and/or evening hours, and occasionally travel out of town, sometimes overnight.
Possession of a valid driver's license and demonstrated safe driving record.
II. RESPONSIBILITY:
Incumbent performs according to established department policies and procedures, making independent decisions and taking authoritative action in response to situational demands. Errors in decisions or work may not be readily detected by supervisory review and may result in adverse effects upon department operations, inconvenience to members of the public, and/or endangerment to self and/or others.
III. PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
Incumbent maintains frequent contact with co-workers, other County departments, other law enforcement agencies, jail detainees, court personnel, and members of the public for the purpose of exchanging and explaining information and maintaining courthouse security. Incumbent's work may involve non-routine problem-solving to gain cooperation of individuals in situations that may jeopardize the safety of the public and/or incumbent.
Incumbent reports directly to Major.
IV. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Incumbent performs duties primarily in an office environment and a courtroom involving sitting for long periods, bending, carrying objects, reaching, far vision, and hearing sounds/communication. Incumbent is exposed to irate/violent individuals. No prolonged, extreme physical demands are associated with normal duties, but incumbent may exert strenuous physical effort during emergency situations. Incumbent occasionally works extended, irregular, and/or evening hours, and occasionally travels out of town, sometimes overnight.

GENERAL SUMMARY
The Public Safety Officer/security personnel are responsible for (1) compliance with security access procedures at all assigned areas providing access to the secure area of the airport, (2) enforcement of TSA security regulations specifically related to 49CFR Part 1520,1540, 1542, and airport regulations along with (3) performing duties assigned by the Public Safety Officer Manager, Public Safety Officer Lead, or designee.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Maintain compliance with all site policies, procedures, and directives

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Answer, evaluate, and prioritize incoming telephone and radio calls.
Communicate effectively with callers to gather complete information and determine the appropriate level of service, including dispatching police, fire, medical, security, or property management.
Collaborate with on-site security personnel to resolve incidents.
Provide pre-arrival emergency or medical instructions to law enforcement or fire personnel.
Escalate and coordinate incidents with the OIC Supervisor.
Interpret site maps, and computer-aided design maps.
Familiarize yourself with the layout and current threats and challenges of multiple retail centers.
Maintain confidentiality of policies, procedures, emergency response information, and administrative materials.
Master several computer applications for data logging, information navigation, and customer support.
Understand and follow emergency and evacuation procedures for assigned retail centers.
Identify and respond effectively to suspicious criminal activity.
Operate and monitor surveillance cameras and programs, ensuring all equipment functions properly.
Support record management and data collection efforts, including video documentation and investigation assistance.
Maintain an effective video management system and maneuver cameras to document events and assist investigations.
Basic Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a public or private safety organization or dispatching and or call center/customer service experience.
At least two (2) years of experience in a video surveillance environment or equivalent training/experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
College degree in Criminal Justice.
Emergency telecommunicator certificate- if you do not have your ETC, we provide the opportunity to earn your certificate.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
Demonstrated initiative and ability to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
Highly organized and self-motivated to work independently and as part of a team.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
Capable of performing regular equipment checks and reporting failures.
Ability to operate technical monitoring equipment and manage information security programs.
Professional demeanor, good judgment, and discretion.
Ability to work overtime and specified shifts in a command center environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute.
Must be able to multitask in between multiple software programs.
Ability to complete pre-employment assessments, pass the Emergency Telecommunication Course, background check, drug and alcohol screening, and new hire training program.
Physical Requirements and Environment:
Office environment with limited physical effort, including some standing, bending, light lifting, and stretching.
Must submit to drug screening as permissible by law.
