Unarmed Security Officer - York County, PA
Security Officer Job 18 miles from Lumberton
Unarmed Security Officers are frequently hired to control access, manage crowds, and deter thieves. An unarmed security officer performs roles across private security. Unarmed means an officer does not possess the additional authorization to carry a firearm in the line of duty.
Although unarmed means officers do not carry firearms, it does not mean they are unequipped. Many security officers can carry flashlights, radios, body cams, etc.
**Typical Duties**
Security Officer duties vary significantly from site to site. Whether at a set post, on a mobile patrol, or on a foot patrol, an officer must remain alert and aware of what is always going on around them. Patrols not only keep officers aware of what's happening on site, but potential criminals know they are being watched. To keep people guessing where an officer will be at any given time, Sheepdog Patrol officers use random patrol techniques, which makes all patrols more effective.
* Guard position at a fixed post
* Foot patrol
* Vehicle patrol (must provide driving history and proof of insurance)
* Access control
* Crowd control
**Legal Prerequisites**
All security officer recruits must be at least 18 years of age and have no criminal history.
**Characteristics**
A good security officer pays attention to everything going on around them. Safety is about noticing potential risks and mitigating them ahead of time. Security officers are thorough, detail-oriented, patient, and calm.
**Professional Appearance**
Perception matters a lot in security. Clients need to feel safe when they look at you. Customers and staff in client-run businesses need to know you are serious. The right professional appearance deters criminals and reassures the public. At Sheepdog Patrol, we require all security officers to wear a clean polo-style uniform (Sheepdog Patrol polo, black tactical/cargo pants, black belt, all black shoes). In doing so, officers can be very visible to those around them and also help gain the confidence, trust, and respect of others who view them as an authority figure in charge of their safety.
**Experience**
Experience is not required but is preferred.
**Training**
All Sheepdog Patrol unarmed security officers have the opportunity to complete training in:
* PA Law
* Report writing
* De-escalation tactics
* Patrol Operations and Tactics
* CPR / First Aid
Offering a high quality of service ensures that you, as a security officer, have the best chance of being booked for shift after shift.
