    The Security Officer position is responsible for ensuring the highest levels of safety and security of all guests and team members through proactive and professional services for The Palms hotel and casino. The position complements the existing security programs. Security Officers act as a visual deterrent, intervene and respond to all levels of security and potential emergency needs including acts or threats of violence, emergencies, and life safety threats, and mitigate incidents through early detection and/or disruption of criminal conduct or other undesirable activity. All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and property policies, practices, and procedures. This position requires specialized training and physical conditioning. Core Job Responsibilities: Ensures establishment and its surrounding premises are always protected by providing public safety to customers, team members, facilities, and operations. Checks interior & exterior of premises for unusual signs, which might indicate illegal entry and/or activity, and speaks to occupants/visitors to assure that everything is in order. Identifies locations and times when incidents or criminal activities may have occurred. Will respond to calls outside in inclement weather. Uses a variety of quality customer service-oriented communication skills, and special techniques to interact formally and informally with community groups and customers of all backgrounds including guests with disabilities. Completes investigations by analyzing and verifying information through various investigative techniques and conversations with persons during their duties. Completes written reports in compliance with departmental procedures and makes oral reports as needed. Assist in emergency situations by securing the scene to prevent further loss or damage, advise personnel of threats and potential threats, summon emergency responders to the incident, and initiate and conduct evacuation procedures. Render appropriate first aid to injured persons and following established protocol for reporting injuries. Provides information about policies, procedures, and ordinances as they affect the visiting public and maintains good public relations with internal customers, vendors and responding law enforcement agencies. Perform other job duties as requested. Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED required. Must be at least 21 years of age. Must have a government-issued ID. Must obtain a TAM Card. Must obtain a Nevada Gaming License. Must be able to use a Fire Extinguisher. Must have a valid driver's license if you are selected as a Security Bike Officer. Working knowledge of security procedures and applicable State and Federal, regulations and ordinances; interviewing and interrogation techniques; surveillance techniques; and an understanding of laws governing search and seizure is required. Professional appearance and demeanor. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, which may include weekends, holidays, evenings. Must be able to obtain appropriate licensing, work permits, and other work authorization cards based on the job they perform. Able to effectively communicate in English, in both written and oral forms. Physical Demands: The physical demands and working environment described here are representative of those that an employee encounters and must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Primary work environment is in climate-controlled office and gaming facility areas. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Must have the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force to constantly move objects. Employee must be able to use hands and feet in self-defense, use physical force to maintain or protect life, physically restrain individuals, break up fights, run after fleeing person, subdue and/or tackle individuals, run up and/or downstairs, and must be able to stand for entire work shift. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus. Must have acceptable hearing levels to properly monitor radio transmissions. Hearing sufficient to hear conversational levels in person and over the telephone. Speech sufficient to make oneself heard and understood in person, in front of groups, in meetings, and over the telephone. Visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned, or to make general observations of facilities, guests, and employees. Mobility sufficient to safely move in an office, gaming facility and outdoor environment. Physically able to withstand the challenges of extensive walking, climbing, and descending numerous interior and external stairs, including multi-level building facilities. Endurance sufficient to sit, walk and stand for extended periods, and maintain efficiency throughout the entire work shift and during extended work hours.
