Job Description
Randolph-Macon College is seeking a Campus Safety Officer to join our Night Shift Campus Safety team. This position serves and protects the community and property of the college, responds to and documents reports of incidents and requests for service.
NIGHT SHIFT SCHEDULE:
Shifts are based on a two-week repeating cycle with scheduled workdays as follows:
Week 1 = Mon., Thur., Fri., 8PM - 8AM
Week 2 = Tues., Wed., Sat., Sun. 8PM - 8AM
Responsibilities
The officer is responsible for promoting positive community relations in the performance of his or her job duties. Officers patrol the campus on foot, bicycle and vehicle while responding to incidents and conducting security checks of building and property. Officers will assist in the preparation of set-ups for athletic and other special events. Officers are required to support the academic environment by maintaining a peaceful and orderly community. Officers provide excellent customer services to students, faculty, staff, and guests of the college.
Qualifications
High school graduate, or GED equivalent.
Must be able to undergo a satisfactory criminal background investigation and hold a valid driver's license with minimum 3 years driving experience, and a satisfactory motor vehicle record by insurance standards.
Certified CPR and First Aid through a licensed provider preferred.
Previous experience in working in a collegiate environment preferred.
Possess basic computer aptitude, and event planning experience in a similar environment.
Individual must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Training in mediation, verbal de-escalation, and diversity preferred.
Must possess physical fitness as this position requires extensive walking, stair climbing and other physical activities that may include but not be limited to, lifting, bending, kneeling, jogging.

Mission Essential: This position has been designated as a Mission Essential position (e.g., snow emergency days, holidays, increased security periods, national emergency). Physical Demands: The work requires extended periods of physical exertion derived from such activities as running, walking, standing, bending or driving and occasionally lifting, pushing and/or carrying items weighing 50 pounds or more. Requires stamina, physical agility and dexterity and the strength to pursue, apprehend or detain. The incumbent may be required to push or drag heavy weights of 150 pounds or more. The incumbent is required to exemplify the physical characteristic of agility in the performance of his/her duties. DoD and DLA regulations require at a minimum an initial and annual physical fitness test. The individual will also undergo routine training in defensive tactics, active shooter/hostage response, handcuffing and firearms qualifications which require physical agility, dexterity and stamina.

Security Officers patrol all Foundation properties to protect exhibits; to assist employees, guests, and contractors; and to respond to emergency situations and calls for service in a timely and efficient manner.
Essential Functions:
Perform routine patrol activities to include, but not limited to:
Conduct routine patrols and inspections of all Colonial Williamsburg buildings, grounds, parking lots, etc., including but not limited to the art museums, historic area properties, hotels, golf courses, restaurants, retail establishments, outlying properties, etc.

Maintain order/mediate disputes and quell disturbances.
Administer first aid, CPR and use of AED including moving/assisting incapacitated persons.

Relieve communications operators, as required, by becoming familiar with all alarm monitoring systems, communications equipment, logs, records, and CAD system.
Escort employees and guests as needed.

Performs intermediate protective service work enforcing laws, investigating criminal activity, ensuring safety of public, collecting evidence, testifying in court, maintaining files and records, preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Examples of Duties
* Patrols assigned area via a patrol vehicle, on foot, or on bicycle to observe for violations of traffic laws, suspicious activities or persons, and disturbances of law and order.

Minimum Education and Experience:

RBC's Department of Campus Safety and Police is seeking an experienced police officer (DCJS Certified) to fill an open position within the department. The mission of the Richard Bland College Department of Campus Safety & Police is to provide a safe and secure living, learning, and working environment for the students, faculty, staff, and visitors of the College by actively pursuing a positive relationship with the campus community, preserving public order, providing emergency medical response, protecting the life and property of all, and providing education and training to law enforcement personnel and the College community.

This position will provide protection of RBC's students, faculty, staff and visitors through the enforcement of state laws and the compliance with policies and procedures and conduct thorough patrols in the department's statutory jurisdiction. As a direct report to the Police Captain, this position will understand and practice campus/community policing, providing emergency medical response; patrolling the college campus; conducting routine traffic enforcement to include speeding, accidents, parking, etc.; enforce and investigate any violations of the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia and RBC's policies and regulations, as well as perform all other duties as assigned. This position will perform these duties in order to meet the mission of RBC and the Police Department.
This position includes a $4,000 Sign-on Bonus ($2,000 at hire and $2,000 after 1-year of service).
Minimum Qualifications
• High School diploma or GED required
• Current certification as a law enforcement officer by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services
• U. S. citizen
• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Possess valid Virginia driver's license
• No convictions of felonies and/or serious misdemeanors
• Successfully pass all phases of the police officer selection process to include: physical agility test, extensive background investigation, MMPI, polygraph examination, interview, and a medical and drug screening by a physician.
