Campus Safety Officers provide safety and security services to the campus community and our guests. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Patrol Bethel University property in various ways (foot, bicycle, or in an authorized vehicle) to maintain a visible physical presence
Conduct regular checks and inspections to ensure building safety and security including doors, windows and gates
Monitor and assist with traffic flow as needed; issuing traffic and parking citations when appropriate.
Report damage, malfunctions, faulty equipment or utilities, or any unusual, questionable, dangerous, or suspicious conditions, persons, or activities anywhere on campus, indoors or outdoors using proper reporting methods
Investigating and reporting criminal activity/complaints and traffic accidents
Maintain and report all activities on a daily shift log
Respond to requests for routine departmental services (lockouts, jump starts, safe-walk etc.); assist all persons to comply with Bethel University regulations and rules of conduct while on university property; apprehends or evicts violators from premises
Activate the Emergency Notification System (ENS) when needed.
Respond to medical situations and emergencies; reports all injuries and medical emergencies; provide basic first aid as needed; calls EMS as needed.
Qualifications
A high school education or GED. Additional education is a plus.
Relevant experience in safety and security.
A valid driver's license, good driving record, and be able to pass a drug screen, criminal and credit checks; and pre-employment physical
Strong interpersonal skills, ability to read, write and speak fluently in English
Must be able to see clearly at 20 inches or less and at 20 feet or more. Must have color and peripheral vision and depth perception.
Must be able to stand and walk for long periods. Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, occasional running or jogging may be necessary. Carrying, using hands to grasp, handle, or feel, reaching, walking, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pulling, pushing may also take place. Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds and between 100 to 200 pounds with assistance
Working Conditions
Will work in indoor and outdoor environments during all seasons in cold, heat, and humidity.

What You'll Do:

Maintain operability of security and contingency equipment.

Position Summary
Under general supervision of the Public Safety Captain, this individual will train in and learn (as appropriate), and perform duties related to airport safety and security, including but not limited to structural firefighting, aircraft and rescue (ARFF), emergency medical services, and law enforcement duties. This position provides a high level of customer service to all airport stakeholders on a daily basis.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Depending on training and certifications, attend training (both onsite and offsite) related to law enforcement, EMS, ARFF, physical fitness activities, and aviation related learning.
Patrol roadways, runways, taxiways, front drive, parking lots, fuel farms, A.O.A. and all airport property, buildings, fence line and facilities daily and conduct fuel farm, truck and building inspections (depending on experience and certifications).
Enforce and comply with applicable state, local and federal laws, F.A.A. and T.S.A. requirements, Authority ordinances and any other regulations or legislation as required. (depending on experience and certifications).
Perform ARFF, police, fire or medical assistance for the airport authority and outside agencies as directed or approved by shift commander (depending on experience and certifications).
Perform daily and weekly vehicle inspections and equipment inspections as required, ensuring any problems are reported for repair.
Respond to emergencies when on-duty or from on shift off-duty status.
Provide emergency medical assistance and services to injured and/or ill persons as required (depending on experience and certifications).
Perform foot patrol of terminal, Authority offices, information center and all airport owned properties providing regular Public Safety presence in the terminal and ensuring all areas are secure daily (depending on experience and certifications).
Perform initial investigation and complete various reports, maintain records, and may testify in court as required (depending on experience and certifications).
Inspect commercial vehicles to ensure compliance with authority requirements for marking, vehicle condition and safety, and insurance.
Carry out vehicle inspections for security sensitive areas.
Perform routine, daily Safety facility clean-up activities and may perform minor maintenance.
Drive the airfield regularly for continued familiarization of rules and regulations.
Provide regular Public Safety presence in the terminal.
Maintain intra- and inter-departmental cooperation and teamwork.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge and attend all scheduled training, conferences, and seminars to stay current in the field.

Qualifications

* Testifying during hearings and other legal proceedings, presenting information and accounts on incidents which have occurred on the Hospital's property, as required.
Ensures Hospital safety by:
* Reporting observed safety hazards and unsafe conditions of facilities.
* Initiating emergency response procedures and alarms, as appropriate, in the ETC and throughout the Hospital facility and grounds, utilizing safety equipment in order to correct or control the incident.
* Maintaining knowledge and compliance with safety and security-related policies and procedures.
