Qualifications

Position Summary
Under general supervision of the Public Safety Captain, this individual will train in and learn (as appropriate), and perform duties related to airport safety and security, including but not limited to structural firefighting, aircraft and rescue (ARFF), emergency medical services, and law enforcement duties. This position provides a high level of customer service to all airport stakeholders on a daily basis.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Depending on training and certifications, attend training (both onsite and offsite) related to law enforcement, EMS, ARFF, physical fitness activities, and aviation related learning.
Patrol roadways, runways, taxiways, front drive, parking lots, fuel farms, A.O.A. and all airport property, buildings, fence line and facilities daily and conduct fuel farm, truck and building inspections (depending on experience and certifications).
Enforce and comply with applicable state, local and federal laws, F.A.A. and T.S.A. requirements, Authority ordinances and any other regulations or legislation as required. (depending on experience and certifications).
Perform ARFF, police, fire or medical assistance for the airport authority and outside agencies as directed or approved by shift commander (depending on experience and certifications).
Perform daily and weekly vehicle inspections and equipment inspections as required, ensuring any problems are reported for repair.
Respond to emergencies when on-duty or from on shift off-duty status.
Provide emergency medical assistance and services to injured and/or ill persons as required (depending on experience and certifications).
Perform foot patrol of terminal, Authority offices, information center and all airport owned properties providing regular Public Safety presence in the terminal and ensuring all areas are secure daily (depending on experience and certifications).
Perform initial investigation and complete various reports, maintain records, and may testify in court as required (depending on experience and certifications).
Inspect commercial vehicles to ensure compliance with authority requirements for marking, vehicle condition and safety, and insurance.
Carry out vehicle inspections for security sensitive areas.
Perform routine, daily Safety facility clean-up activities and may perform minor maintenance.
Drive the airfield regularly for continued familiarization of rules and regulations.
Provide regular Public Safety presence in the terminal.
Maintain intra- and inter-departmental cooperation and teamwork.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge and attend all scheduled training, conferences, and seminars to stay current in the field.

Qualifications

Position Summary
Under general supervision of the Public Safety Captain, this individual will train in and learn (as appropriate), and perform duties related to airport safety and security, including but not limited to structural firefighting, aircraft and rescue (ARFF), emergency medical services, and law enforcement duties. This position provides a high level of customer service to all airport stakeholders on a daily basis.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Depending on training and certifications, attend training (both onsite and offsite) related to law enforcement, EMS, ARFF, physical fitness activities, and aviation related learning.
Patrol roadways, runways, taxiways, front drive, parking lots, fuel farms, A.O.A. and all airport property, buildings, fence line and facilities daily and conduct fuel farm, truck and building inspections (depending on experience and certifications).
Enforce and comply with applicable state, local and federal laws, F.A.A. and T.S.A. requirements, Authority ordinances and any other regulations or legislation as required. (depending on experience and certifications).
Perform ARFF, police, fire or medical assistance for the airport authority and outside agencies as directed or approved by shift commander (depending on experience and certifications).
Perform daily and weekly vehicle inspections and equipment inspections as required, ensuring any problems are reported for repair.
Respond to emergencies when on-duty or from on shift off-duty status.
Provide emergency medical assistance and services to injured and/or ill persons as required (depending on experience and certifications).
Perform foot patrol of terminal, Authority offices, information center and all airport owned properties providing regular Public Safety presence in the terminal and ensuring all areas are secure daily (depending on experience and certifications).
Perform initial investigation and complete various reports, maintain records, and may testify in court as required (depending on experience and certifications).
Inspect commercial vehicles to ensure compliance with authority requirements for marking, vehicle condition and safety, and insurance.
Carry out vehicle inspections for security sensitive areas.
Perform routine, daily Safety facility clean-up activities and may perform minor maintenance.
Drive the airfield regularly for continued familiarization of rules and regulations.
Provide regular Public Safety presence in the terminal.
Maintain intra- and inter-departmental cooperation and teamwork.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge and attend all scheduled training, conferences, and seminars to stay current in the field.

Perform any other duties as may be assigned to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the airport.
Qualifications

Education
High School diploma or equivalent education. Must obtain movement area driving within the first six months of hire. Must obtain CPR certification within one year of hire.
For Public Safety Officer 2nd Class, must hold the following certifications: FAA basic ARFF course; Law Enforcement 40 hour pre-basic if course availability allows; NIMS / ICS 100, 200, 700, & 800.
Experience
One to two years in police, firefighting, EMT/EMR, public or airport safety experience preferred (Recruit)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Conversant in aircraft firefighting; knowledgeable in law enforcement procedures; and must have knowledge of Airport Authority policy, and departmental rules, regulations, and orders to ensure appropriate enforcement and compliance (2nd Class).
Knowledge of airport emergency preparedness and be capable of making decisions; can use and understand rescue and fire-fighting tools; the ability to recognize and follow light gun signals and utilize two-way radios; and the ability to wear SCBA equipment (2nd Class).
Must be able to work under pressure; to prioritize and organize; to run, crawl, stand, walk, climb, and lift weights that are required to perform fire rescue duties; and, to work in confined spaces and/or inclement weather.
Must have the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; and, to interact with a variety of personalities.
Need to be able to maintain complete, accurate records; to prepare accurate and timely reports; and, to have knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.

Licenses & Certifications
Maintain a valid driver's license. Must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility to hold a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge.

Must be 21 years of age or 21 at the start of the police academy.
Must complete and pass a comprehensive background and Criminal History Records check and be able to obtain and maintain security and access credentials.
Must pass a pre-employment drug screening, physical, and psychological evaluation.
Work Environment
Work is performed both in a standard office environment, where noise levels are typically quiet to moderate, and in the field, where noise levels can be loud to very loud.
Exposure to dust, grease, excessive vibration, noxious gas fumes, or smells, and/or extreme outdoor weather conditions may be expected.
Physical Requirements
Requires physical fitness to perform law enforcement and fire rescue duties including lifting and carrying weights of 165 pounds or more and working in confined spaces and from heights. Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds.
Position requires frequent reaching with hands and arms, standing, and walking.
Ability to occasionally climb, kneel, stoop, crouch, bend, and crawl are required.
Ability to sit for constant periods of time.
