Responsibilities:
Develop a deep understanding of each assigned site to serve as a subject matter expert on the client's security needs and expectations.
Coordinate daily with the COO and Operations Team to ensure alignment on objectives, priorities, and policy updates.
Ability to visit and support assigned locations across all shifts including morning, swing, and graveyard to ensure consistent oversight and operational continuity.
Train security officers in a wide range of topics through both hands-on instruction and classroom-style lectures, delivered at the home office, client sites, or in the field as needed.
Maintain direct communication with clients, client staff, and the public with professionalism and tact.
Train, reinforce, and uphold client-specific security protocols, while responding to emergencies and unexpected situations as they arise.
Review and update site policies and procedures to reflect current security trends and industry best practices.
Conduct thorough patrols of designated areas, including multi-level buildings and outdoor spaces, while standing or walking for extended periods.
Frequently climb stairs and navigate challenging environments to ensure full site coverage.
Remain alert and focused throughout extended shifts, maintaining a high standard of vigilance and readiness.
De-escalate tense or potentially volatile situations using professionalism, patience, and confident communication.
Document patrols, incidents, and observations with accuracy and detail to support accountability and post-shift review.
Prepare clear, comprehensive incident reports that meet company and client documentation standards.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications:

Under the direction of the Facilities Program Manager, this position is responsible for performing work focused around ensuring security services at any of the 24 San Jose Public Library branches and providing a safe environment for staff and the public. The Security Officer will monitor and secure library property against criminal activity and damage, as well as maintain pleasant welcoming atmosphere for staff and customers. Minimum Qualifications

STEP #4: ORAL BOARD INTERVIEW
* This is a panel interview. Candidates will be asked five to eight questions. Pass Point is 70% or higher. Results are valid for three years.

STEP #5: BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION PROCESS
* Eligible candidates will complete a Personal History Statement (PHS) packet. Background investigators will then be assigned to assist candidates through the process. THE POSITION:
Under direct supervision, the Police Officer Trainee attends a Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T) approved Police Basic Recruit Academy and successfully completes the academic and physical training required for appointment to the classification of Police Officer Recruit II.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

PROBATION

Benefits
Medical/Dental/Vision: The City provides up to $2,125/month to purchase medical, dental and vision benefits. A retiree medical benefit is provided after 15 years of service (see POA MOU for details on benefits).
Retirement: Through CalPERS, employee will be responsible for 7% of the CalPERS retirement plan. After completion of the academy the CalPERS Retirement Benefit will be either 3% @ 55(Classic Employees) or the new 2.7% @ 57(New Employees) formula is dependent on the individual's eligibility, as per AB 340. Deferred Compensation Plan: A 457b Deferred Comp Plan and a ROTH IRA plan are available on a voluntary basis.

Holidays: 79 Paid Holiday hours and 47 Holiday hours placed in a Holiday Time Bank.
Life Insurance and AD&D: $100,000 coverage for both Life Insurance and AD&D; both are employer paid. Additional voluntary supplemental life insurance is available.
Disability Insurance: Long-Term Disability insurance is provided and paid by the City.

Special Requirements:
* Possession of a valid California Driver's License at time of appointment.
* Pre-employment: ability to pass drug and alcohol test; candidates must not have been convicted by any state or by the federal government of a crime, the punishment for which could have been imprisonment in a federal penitentiary or a state prison.
* Weight in proportion to height.
* Visual rating correctable to 20/30 in both eyes. Possess normal color vision.
* If military veteran, discharges other than honorable will be evaluated on an individual basis.
* Satisfactory results on appropriate written, medical, background and psychiatric examinations.
* Citizenship: must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident alien or have applied for citizenship.
