1973

1973: The Bureau of Collections and Investigative Services is mandated to register uniformed employees of Private Patrol Operators.

1974

1974: The firearm program is established, requiring applicants for exposed weapon permits to complete Bureau-approved training.

1978

Security ONE has come a long way since our humble beginnings in 1978.

1982

Commonwealth grew to be the largest independent security installer in the region, and was named the “Dealer of the Year“ by SDM Magazine in 1982.

1988

The company, which was founded in 1988 and has more than 1 million customers and has more than 2,500 employees in more than 60 locations across the country, also acquired Fort Worth, Texas-based Suntera Security in October.

1993

1993: The Locksmith Act is expanded to require separate licenses for locksmith companies and their employees.

1996

Networked cameras (cameras with IP addresses that transmit video via ethernet) first became available in 1996, though they took a while to catch on.

2012

Set up by a group of partners with an extensive background in security, the company remains locally owned and operated to this day. It was the eighth acquisition for Protection 1 in 2012.
