    Ursinus College is seeking full-time Campus Safety Officers (CSOs) to work an assigned schedule which may include nights, weekends, and holidays. The successful candidate will be required to work special events, attend mandatory in-service training, and staff meetings, as well as be available for overtime when necessary. Ursinus College CSOs are non-sworn, unarmed employees tasked with patrolling the 170-acre campus to discourage criminal behavior and interact with all members of the college community to promote a sense of well-being and security and enhance the quality of life on the Ursinus College campus. Ursinus College CSOs are expected to be ambassadors for the college and provide exceptional customer service to all members of the college community. Successful candidates will not only show an aptitude for handling emergencies but also demonstrate interpersonal skills, professionalism, and a team-oriented mindset to serve the college community and create a safe environment for learning and growth. Determination of shift will be based on department needs and is subject to change with reasonable notice. Responsibilities Safeguard life and property, and interdiction of criminal activity through high visibility, vehicular, bike, and foot patrol on the campus Respond to non-emergency and emergency situations, including alarms, lockouts, medical and mental health crises, and crimes in progress and summon municipal Police, Fire, and EMS assistance when required Conduct initial investigations, collect witness statements, photograph scenes, and prepare and submit concise and comprehensive incident reports Regulate campus vehicular and pedestrian traffic to enhance safety and expedite flow. Enforce college parking regulations Identify, report, and resolve conditions and circumstances that are hazardous to people and property. Inspect buildings and properties for proper maintenance and working order Secure and unlock campus buildings in accordance with schedules and procedures Administer First Aid and CPR when necessary Provide escorts and shuttle transportation to members of the campus community as assigned Monitor surveillance camera system and perform dispatcher duties as part of normal duties Maintain confidentiality of information This position is a Campus Security Authority as designated under the Jeanne Clery Act of 1990 Requirements and Qualifications High School diploma or GED and good work history required Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and at least one year driving experience Ability to operate a motor vehicle at night and in poor weather conditions Proven computer literacy (Microsoft Office Word, Excel) Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills are required Must be capable of passing a background investigation including criminal records check Understanding of higher education setting and ability to work with persons of diverse cultures and backgrounds Physical Demands: Patrolling assigned areas during all types of weather conditions Ability to sit or stand for prolonged period, must also be able to bend, stoop, squat, reach above shoulder level, kneel, lift and carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds Walk up and down stairs throughout the scheduled shift as required Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus Ability to talk, hear, and walk without assistance Ability to report to work for assigned shift and perform required duties for a minimum of eight (8) hours per day up to a maximum of (16) hours per day Schedules consist of 8, 10, and 12-hour shifts Other Duties: The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by the individual(s) assigned to this position.     Job Details Provides maximum protection for the safety and security of university and hospital personnel, patients, students, visitors and Jefferson assets. Performs security duties either at a fixed post, or on patrol or while making rounds of buildings and grounds. Responses to calls for service. Checks for unauthorized persons, general security violations and fire or safety hazards. Capable of being assigned to any fixed post or patrol duties in any environment, and on any shift. Assists patients/visitors/students by giving directions or information when requested. •Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson. •Performs security patrols at either fixed post or on patrol, including general security violations and fire or safety hazards. Verifies the appropriateness of persons on property by checking identification badges and escorting all unauthorized persons from campus as necessary. •Responds promptly to calls for service, including priority or serious incidents, problems or emergencies. Notifies supervisor (Sergeant or Lieutenant) of conditions. May be required to diffuse emergency situations with conflict resolution skills. •Investigates and documents reports on accidents, incidents or suspicious activities. Valid driver's License required to work at certain Jefferson locations. Must be able to understand all responsibilities and technology associated with the 24-hour Security Response Center (SRC).
