Job Description
Upholds order, safety, and security within assigned areas in accordance with relevant rules, regulations, policies, and laws; complies with expectations; maintains relevant knowledge and skill through training and job performance.
Provides security for the Johnson County Courthouse, Justice Annex, and other Johnson County secured buildings; monitors and authorizes entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premises; prevents unauthorized individuals from entering restricted areas; conducts building and perimeter checks; checks doors and gates of entrances and exits to secure buildings to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates.
Performs searches of employees or visitors to locate any contraband or unlawful items; operates x-ray machines, scanners and other detecting devices to screen individuals and prevent passage of prohibited articles into restricted areas; operates surveillance equipment to detect suspicious or illegal activities; inspects and adjusts security systems, equipment, or machinery to ensure operational use and to detect evidence of tampering; receives or checks incoming items at point of entry, including loading docks.
Provides security at Board of County Commissioner meetings, court commitments, and other events; monitors access or flow of people to prevent problems; circulates among visitors and employees to preserve order and protect property; conducts tours of the courthouse; responds to security requests.
Responds to alarms and investigates disturbances; investigates illegal or suspicious activities; warns persons of rule infractions or violations, and apprehends or evicts violators from premises, using weapons and/or force when necessary to maintain security; reports unsafe activities to supervisors; writes reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.

A Typical Workday May Include:
This is general law enforcement and firefighting work dedicated to the protection of life and/or property. Work performed involves an element of personal danger. Employees work under general supervision following a period of field training and may be assigned to work in the Patrol Division, in the Fire Division, on special assignments, or as an investigator or Crime Prevention Officer assigned to the Criminal Investigation's Division. JOB SUMMARY
Position is primarily responsible for providing personal protection and security for all students, employees, and others common to Ottawa University. Secondary role is to provide protection to the Campus facilities, property, and personal property of all common to the Campus. The nature of the position requires night and weekend duty. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Must be observant for suspicious/irregular or threatening activities across facilities. Must be available to aid and security in escorting students and employees to appropriate destinations. Must always be highly visible and available for student and employee safety needs.
Requires regular inspection tours, on foot, of assigned buildings which requires the employee to walk long distances, climb stairs, and may subject the employee to extreme weather conditions. Inspections include checking doors, windows, and gates. Must monitor people in buildings requiring authorization for being there and requiring those not authorized to leave. Maintain an awareness of route information such as building hours, fire and intrusion alarm status, and on-going maintenance problems. Stay knowledgeable of state fire codes, university safety guidelines, and policies governing university buildings.
Safeguards the university against hazards, safety problems, and property damage. Ensure appropriate illumination of buildings to include exits and stairwell lights. Inspect buildings with an eye toward utility conservation. Takes prompt action to eliminate immediate danger to life or property.
Responds, usually on foot, immediately to emergency situations. Assist in building evacuations, when needed. Assist in perimeter control, when necessary, which may involve exposure to extreme weather conditions. Reports life threatening conditions and/or property loss/damage to proper authorities. Provide assistance in accordance with training and common sense and/or stands by until help arrives.
Must work cooperatively with others providing a courteous, complete and efficient service. Must maintain proper care and control of department equipment and vehicles. Participate in and/or provide training as required. Must have a positive work attendance, work in a variety of environments and climatic conditions, have flexibility to work evenings and weekend hours, and the willingness to work overtime as necessary. The Kansas Department of Agriculture is seeking a dedicated public servant to serve as the Western Plant Protection Specialist in the Plant Protection and Weed Control program.
Responsibilities of the position include:
Inspect plants, plant products and agricultural seed for exporters of plants and plant products, live plant dealers and seed dealers to ensure compliance with statutes and other regulatory requirements. Communicate with clients, provide direction for mitigation of pests or other non-compliance concerns as needed, and issue necessary documentation.
Conduct surveys for plant pests and perform other pest detection activities in dealer facilities, production fields and other high risk locations. Collect, evaluate and report on distribution of pests.
Initiate appropriate enforcement actions for live plant dealers, seed dealers and other clients when violations of applicable statutes and/or other regulations are encountered. Provide program and/or enforcement support to associated government agencies.
Occasional overnight travel is required.
Maintain records of inspection and pest detection activities through program database. Utilize GPS tracking systems.

Qualifications:
