FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of the practices and procedures required to insure maintenance of order and security of buildings, grounds and equipment; good knowledge of safety precautions necessary to eliminate existing and potential security, safety and fire hazards; working knowledge of the Penal Law, Criminal Procedure Law and Vehicle and Traffic Laws of the State of New York; working knowledge of law enforcement statutes pertaining to a variety of offenses and working knowledge of investigative techniques; good knowledge of standard police, fire and emergency communication codes; ability to communicate effectively with others; use technology specifically email and database systems; ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written directions; ability to prepare clear, and concise reports; good judgment; tact; courtesy; resourcefulness; dependability; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the job.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma
* Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, police science or closely related field, OR, one (1) year of experience in a law enforcement agency or security force; OR
* Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an AA degree
* Five (5) years full-time or equivalent part-time experience as a Municipal Police Trained Police Officer, NYS Peace Officer, with a current training certificate, OR,
* Any equivalent combination of training and experience defined through the limits of A, B, C and D of above.
HIRING SALARY:
* Hiring Salary is based on the qualifications. Minimum starting salary is $37,792. annually and full range of benefits. The position has overtime possibilities.
* Shifts (24/7) vary by need of the organization. The position may have mandatory carry over shifts. All officers are considered essential employees and must respond to the college during emergency situations (weather, county declarations etc.)
* Once interviewed the candidate will undergo a medical physical; psychological and agility testing; and a criminal background check.
* Candidates must have the pre-employment NYS security guard licensing on file before hiring.
* No waivers are offered for retired NYS applicants currently in the NYS retirement systems.
* Possession of a valid New York State driver's license at the time of appointment; appointees must maintain a valid license throughout their employment in this title.
* Provisional Appointment - This position requires an appointment from a certified eligible list and currently there is no established list. For you to become a permanent employee, you must pass the examination and be reachable (Rule of Three) on the certified eligible list that results from the civil service examination for this position.

What You'll Do:
Control access to the location by verifying credentials of employees, visitors, and contractors, following established procedures.
Monitor entry and exit points and maintain detailed logs of all individuals entering and leaving the premises.
Provide customer service to individuals at the location by addressing inquiries and assisting with directions or information as needed.
Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner, following Allied Universal protocols and site-specific policies.
Conduct regular and random patrols around the business and perimeter to help to deter unauthorized access and identify potential security-related concerns.
Assist with security-related emergency response activities as directed by site management or Allied Universal leadership.
Enforce site-specific policies and procedures to help to deter prohibited items and activities.
Collaborate with site personnel and law enforcement as needed to address incidents or concerns at the location.
Minimum Requirements:
A guard card or license is preferred.
Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles.
Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
