The Unarmed Security Officer reports to the Captain-Gilcrease and is responsible for carrying out basic security functions to ensure safe and effective prevention, response, and recovery from threats to the Gilcrease Museum. The Armed Security Officer reports to the Assistant Director / Captain - Patrol or Captain - Gilcrease and is responsible for carrying out basic security functions to ensure safe and effective prevention, response, and recovery from threats to the University of Tulsa students, faculty, staff, and guests. Essential Functions (Responsibilities): Patrol * Informs the Lieutenant-Patrol, Armed Security Officer Lead, or supervisor of any unusual situations or circumstances that come to their attention. * Patrol assigned areas securing scheduled buildings and ensuring safety of university property. * Patrol assigned areas of the university property making inquiries and inspection oriented towards protecting of life and property, preventing crime and accidents. * Maintain regular radio contact with the Communication Center reporting any unusual situations and requesting assistance from police or fire. * Properly investigate all assigned incidents that occur on university property and document the findings of the investigation on department report forms. * Observes and reports any faulty or unsafe equipment and/or conditions. * Enforces University safety, parking, and traffic regulations by the issuance of University citations. * Provides emergency first aid to injured or ill person(s) and assists in the transportation of these persons when necessary. * Admits authorized person(s) into secured buildings, facilities, and rooms during business and non-business hours. * Responds to building alarms. * Responds to calls for assistance. * Assists stranded motorists by jump-starting batteries, changing flat tires, and pushing disabled vehicles. * Provides crowd and/or traffic control during scheduled activities and/or emergency situations. * Provides basic information, direction, and assistance to university personnel, students, and visitors. Gilcrease Museum o Conducting daily verification of gallery inventories. o Monitoring the museum's CCTV and alarm systems. o Assisting with the daily opening and closing of the museum. Security * Makes crucial decisions under stress and is held accountable for the result. * De-escalates difficult situations and accompanies unauthorized individuals off university owned and controlled property. * Determines when, and under what circumstances, to use non-lethal or deadly force. * Defend themselves and others in actual physical combat. * Provides security during the transportation of large sums of cash, and/or other valuables. Administrative * Investigates all assigned incidents and accurately documents the investigation results into an incident reporting system. * Accurately completes all necessary administrative forms and reports. * Testifies clearly and truthfully during campus conduct hearings and legal court proceedings. * Required to complete all assigned University and department training. (Preferred) Preferred Qualifications Physical Demands The Armed Security Officer position requires physical stamina to perform assigned shift in all types of environmental conditions, safely operate a motor vehicle, safely perform bicycle patrols, perform foot patrol, stand for extended periods of time, defend themselves and others in actual physical combat, occasionally lift and move people or heavy objects, climb or jump physical obstacles, and run various distances. Evaluate, address, and take necessary steps with suspicious persons, vehicles, or circumstances. Report violations of company security, safety, and procedural policies. EMERGENCY RESPONSE & INCIDENT HANDLING Warn violators of rule infractions or violations, such as loitering, illegal parking, or carrying forbidden articles. Apprehend or expel persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts. Respond to alarms. Act as first responder in a security emergency. Direct, coordinate, and carry out security responses to fire alarms, bomb threats, suspicious packages, hazardous material releases or spills, medical emergencies, mechanical or equipment failures, extreme weather, or other criminal actions. Report hazardous conditions such as fire risks, water leaks, chemical spills, and malfunctioning equipment. SECURITY SYSTEMS & ACCESS CONTROL Monitor, utilize, operate, and maintain various security systems and equipment, including access control, video surveillance, key tracking, and alert systems. Raise and lower parking gates; assist with manual operation during power outages. Run reports to determine card activity history, individual clearances, or other relevant access data. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma/GED and one year of public safety, law enforcement or military experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have CLEET ASG certification or equivalent Peace Officer certification from another state or completed Phase 1 and/or Phase 2 to become certified. Valid Oklahoma Driver s License and license to carry a firearm required. Must have knowledge of law enforcement policies and procedures. Basic computer skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must demonstrate the ability to communicate and engage individuals on a professional, friendly, efficient, and courteous manner. Good judgement and strong problem-solving ability. Must be honest, courageous, alert, observant, calm, well-disciplined, reliable, and loyal. Ability to multitask and prioritize are a requirement. Must demonstrate ability to learn, manage and operate electronic systems that support the security team. While on duty , must wear OMRF-issued uniform and equipment. Preferred Qualifications First aid and/or CPR certification strongly preferred. Specialized training in security procedures and tactics and/or military training preferred. ASIS International membership and/or APP certification a plus. Work Hours Flexible schedule. Main shifts will occur Monday through Friday between 7:30am to 5:00pm. No nights, weekends or holidays required. However, may have the opportunity to work additional hours covering for other security team members taking leave or during special events.
