Uniformed position at all times. Armed Security Officer's duties include being a visible deterrent to criminal activity, providing security for patients, Associates, and visitors, protecting and patrolling hospital buildings, assets and premises as assigned. The Armed Security Officer is responsible for responding to all emergency codes, internal/external disaster events as needed and/or requested, conducting preliminary investigations of reported incidents, and performing other security related tasks as directed by a security supervisor/and or Manager. The Armed Security Officer must have flexibility in hours and be able to rotate between facilities including travel whenever necessary. CHRISTUS Approved uniforms must be worn in accordance with dress code requirements.
Responsibilities:
Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
Conducts frequent security patrols of the facilities and grounds as assigned.
Identifies and reports trends related to security issues. Recommends actions.
Takes initial information for an incident report, uses proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, notes only the facts, leaving out personal opinions and submits report in a timely manner (no later than the end of assigned shift).
Responds promptly to all service requests relayed by supervisor, telephone, pass-on, e-mail, radio, cell phone and other correspondence in a courteous and expeditious manner.
Responds to the collection, inventory and return of lost and found items, patient valuables, and personal property according to policy.
Enforces all rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of CHRISTUS Health and the laws of the state in which CHRISTUS is doing business.
Controls and enforces facility parking using patrols, violation warning citations, towing, booting and explanation of rules as applicable.
Assists clinical/non-clinical Associates with combative patients or visitors.
Demonstrates competence to perform assigned client care responsibilities in a way that meets the age-specific and developmental needs of persons served by the department.
Demonstrates proficiency and knowledge in the operation of the Attendant Console, Paging System, security radio/dispatch system, operations of the Digital Video Recorder (NVR) security monitors (CCTV) and the general overhead paging system.
Must be proficient with the use of a PC to generate electronic daily activity security reports, incident reports, emails and other applicable electronic correspondence during the performance of duties.
Promotes a safe environment by reporting safety hazards observed (broken water/sprinkler lines, burned out internal/external lighting, smoke/gas odors, tripping hazards, etc.) during the performance of security rounds.
Appropriately adapts assigned client assessment, treatment and/or care methods to accommodate the physical, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each person served.
Demonstrated competence with handgun, hand cuffs, baton, non-crisis intervention certification and two-way radios.
Frequent exposure to aggressive behavior and emotionally charged situations.
Occasional exposure to hazardous conditions such as fires, chemical spills, and flooding.
Frequent exposure to heat and cold from external weather conditions.
Long periods of walking, standing, stooping, and lifting.
Must be physically fit and able to walk all areas of the facilities and grounds, to restrain those who need restraint and be able to assist nursing staff with lifting patients of all sizes.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Active Level 3 Certification required for positions in Texas and New Mexico.
For Texas positions:
Must hold an active Level 3 Commission with the Texas Department of Public Safety Private Security Bureau (TDPSPSB).
New hires who have completed the TDPSPSB security commission course must obtain their commission prior to hire.
If the license status is ACTIVE in TOPS and the pocket card has not yet been received, the licensee may begin working.
Until the pocket card is received, the licensee must carry proof of ACTIVE status (e.g., screenshot or printed copy from TOPS) while on duty.
For New Mexico positions:
Must meet eligibility requirements to obtain a Level 3 commission from the New Mexico Private Investigations Advisory Board prior to hire.
For Louisiana positions:
Officers may not carry a weapon on duty until completing 40 hours of training and receiving a letter of authorization from the CHRISTUS Vice President of Security to carry a CHRISTUS Health-assigned weapon. xevrcyc

The Security Officer III performs highly complex (senior-level) security services work. The Security Officer III is the most senior Security Officer and supports the Security Supervisor with department goals and objectives. Work involves patrolling grounds; conducting initial investigations as needed; providing direction and/or assistance to patients, staff, and visitors. Responsibilities also include temporary switchboard duties such as answering the hospital telephone switchboard as needed, the fire alarm system, and emergency response phone line.
Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Performs other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
This position may be eligible to earn additional pay for work performed on evenings, nights and/or weekends.

Essential Job Functions (EJFs):
Attends work on a regular basis and may be asked to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
Patrol's hospital grounds to monitor and mitigate unusual occurrences such as trespassers, vandalism, and emergencies.
Monitors and directs daily activities and work performance of junior security officers as needed. Adjusts daily activities of security officers assigned to shift to ensure objectives of the department are met in accordance with directives of the security supervisor based upon tasks and personnel available.
Provides security to the hospital campus. Opens hospital gates as appropriate. Provides direction and assistance to visitors. Patrols grounds, inspecting and safeguarding buildings, properties, and equipment. Writes reports and documents incidents or events in and around the hospital grounds. Downloads video requests from the Rights Protection department.
Performs temporary switchboard duties as requested. Answers phone and calls from service via dispatch (switchboard) as needed, the fire alarm system, and emergency response phone line.
Checks points of ingress and egress, to assist in the prevention of unauthorized departures/escapes. Investigates and documents unusual incidents such as thefts, fire, vehicle accidents, unauthorized departures, and weather-related events.
During the absence of the Security Supervisor, performs administrative duties such as preparing the department schedule and reviewing reports. Represents the security department in meetings and events at the direction of the Security Supervisor or Directors.
Reports to areas when fire alarms sound, determines the nature of the emergency and resets alarm as needed. During an actual fire emergency, escorts the fire department to facilitate access and mitigation of impact to hospital, staff, and patients.
Provides crisis intervention, when necessary, assists staff with controlling disruptive or combative patients or guests, and escorts disruptive people off hospital grounds.
Operates State vehicles to transport patients, employees, and visitors on or off the hospital grounds.
Maintains inspection forms to ensure preventive maintenance and the safe operation of vehicles.
Performs other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications:
Must possess a valid Texas driver license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date to drive a state vehicle. Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy.
Current CPR/AED certification preferred, willingness to be certified within 6 months required.
Initial Screening Criteria:
Five years or more continuous work experience in law enforcement, security or corrections required OR
Three years or more security experience in a mental health facility required.
Additional Information:
Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aid, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct, List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Males between the ages of 18-25 must be registered with the Selective Service.

Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours.

Three (3) years full-time, wage-earning correctional custody or law enforcement experience to include one (1) year in the supervision of employees.
Operational Review Sergeant or Security Threat Group Sergeant experience may be substituted for one (1) year of the required supervisory experience.
Thirty (30) semester hours with a minimum of six (6) semester hours in Criminal Justice from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one (1) year of required non-supervisory experience.
Valid driver's license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
