Duties
During the course of their careers, Uniformed Division Officers carry out assignments in protection. Duties include:
Providing protection for The White House Complex, The Vice President's Residence, The Main Treasury Building and Annex, and foreign diplomatic missions and embassies in the Washington, D.C. area.
Traveling in support of the Presidential, Vice Presidential, and foreign heads of state/government missions.
Enforcing mandated protective responsibilities as described under Title 18, United States Code, Section 3056A.
Requirements
U.S. citizenship is required.
Possess a current valid U.S. driver's license.
Be at least age 20 and less than age 37 at the time you receive a conditional offer of employment, unless you have previous service in a Federal Civilian Law Enforcement position covered by special law enforcement or firefighter retirement provisions, including early or mandatory retirement. Applicants with veteran's preference must receive a conditional offer of employment prior to reaching age 40 to continue in the application process.
Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory.
Possess uncorrected visual acuity of no worse than 20/100 binocular. Possess corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye.
Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 25 decibels (A.S.A. or equivalent I.S.O.) in either ear in the 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz ranges. Applicants must be able to hear the whispered voice at 15 feet with each ear without the use of a hearing aid.

Officers carry out these responsibilities by: patrolling an assigned area; responding to emergency calls; resolving conflicts; engaging in community policing and community relations, investigating crimes; rendering medical assistance; writing reports (using, software, computers, portable technology devices, and mobile data computers); handling crises or stressful situations, which may involve juveniles, the elderly, or the disabled; testifying in court; and enforcing Florida State laws and City Ordinances. Officers do this individually and sometimes as a member of a team, under direction of a supervisor. Eligibility - You must be presently employed as a law enforcement officer, hold current certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in the State of Florida AND have a minimum of ONE (1) YEAR full-time sworn, law enforcement experience (in the State of Florida immediately prior to your application date). *Former City of Coconut Creek Police Officers are not eligible for the signing bonus.
Payment - $7,500 shall be paid upon hire.
Repayment
(0 - 1) year of completed service: If you fail to complete one (1) year of service, the $7,500 signing bonus must be paid back in full.
(1 -2) years of completed service: If you complete one (1) year of service but fail to complete two (2) years of service, you must repay 50% of the signing bonus.

Must possess current certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in the State of Florida as described under Chapter 493 of the Florida Statutes (F.S), or be currently enrolled in a State of Florida Police Academy and will have successfully completed all required profiles of that Academy and will be able to obtain a Florida Law Enforcement Certification prior to employment, or successfully completed basic recruit training at a certified Police Academy (out of state) at a certified Police Academy with the ability to obtain a certification from the State of Florida as a Law Enforcement Officer as described under Chapter 943, Florida Statutes (F.S) prior to employment.
Must meet the following minimum qualifications for employment or appointment:
* Minimum of 21 years of age on the date of hire.
* Must be a citizen of the United States.
* Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
* College-level coursework is preferred but not required.
* Must live in Palm Beach, Broward, or Dade County within the first three (3) months of the job offer.

* NOTE: As per Florida State Statute 941.13(4), must not have been convicted of any felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement, or have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States. Any person who, after July 1, 1981, pleads guilty or nolo contendere to or is found guilty of any felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement is not eligible for employment or appointment as an officer, notwithstanding suspension of sentence or withholding of adjudication. Notwithstanding this subsection, any person who has pled nolo contendere to a misdemeanor involving a false statement, prior to December 1, 1985, and has had such record sealed or expunged shall not be deemed ineligible for employment or appointment as an officer.

NATURE OF WORK
This is generalized law enforcement and public safety work in the prevention of crime, protection of life and property, and apprehension of criminal offenders.
An incumbent in this classification of work is responsible for performing tasks of more than average difficulty involving the protection of life and property. After completion of an initial training period, the employee is responsible for enforcing federal, state and local laws, and performing related police activities. Incumbents are involved in either patrolling an assigned area in a radio-equipped vehicle, or performing administrative, communications, public information and/or complaint duties. Under general supervision of a sergeant or other police supervision, the employee is required to exercise initiative and independent judgment as well as tact, courtesy and self-control in performance of duties. Upon separation of City employment due to resignation, employee shall receive payment of all accrued sick leave at a rate of twenty-five percent (25%) of the employee's current rate of pay at time of resignation. The Requirements:
Must be a current State of Florida Certified Police Officer
United States Citizen
Minimum 21 years of age
High School Graduate or G.E.D. equivalency
Pass Basic Motor Skills Test (BMST) for physical agility
Pass Swim Test
Pass Oral Board Examination
Pass Polygraph Examination
Pass Psychological Screening (Law)
Pass an extensive background investigation
Pass a Chief and/or Command Staff review
Pass an extensive medical evaluation
Pass drug detection by urinalysis test
Meet current State training requirements as necessary
Stable work history
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Must possess ability to exercise discretion
Be of good moral character, have no felony convictions, and committed no incidents of violence
Not have been convicted of any felony or misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement
Military discharge must be "Honorable"
Certified Police Officers previously employed by the City who successfully passed the department's hiring process may have certain hiring requirements waived
