This position is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of students, faculty, staff, and campus property through active patrol, emergency response, and community engagement. This is a temporary 6-9-month position, with varying shifts, including evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays, based on departmental needs. This position based on staffing levels, could be extended past 9 months.
Position responsibilites include:
* Patrol campus buildings and grounds to deter crime, prevent theft, vandalism and other violations college policy
* Respond to and document all calls for service and violations of college code of conduct and violations of state laws.
* Refer incidents to the Office of Student Conduct for disciplinary action, when appropriate, provide direction and information to campus community.
* Assist with educational programming and training community members based upon the needs or current trends on campus.
* Provide transportation services including campus safety escorts (walking or vehicle), non-emergency medical transports to area medical facilities and other transportation duties as assigned.
* Perform other duties as assigned which are necessary to enhance the safety of the campus.
Requirements:
* Associate's degree in criminal justice (or related field) is preferred.
* Hold and maintain an unrestricted driver's license, with an insurable driving history as determined by Dean College Risk Management.
* Possesses strong human relations skills and the ability to work under stressful situations.
* Demonstrate the ability to analyze emergency situations and develop effective solutions to handle same.
* The ability to and assist sworn police personnel within their designated shift duties.
* The ability to oversee, manage and assist students in their work study or internship responsibilities.
* The ability to, upon identifying a potential problematic issue, report to their direct supervisor in a timely fashion.

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS
The Police Office of Public Safety must obtain and retain authority as a special state police officer in accordance with Massachusetts General Law c. 22c sec. 63. This position must meet the educational and training academy requirements in order to be certified as a Special State Police Officer as well as POST certification MGL 555 CMR 1.0 This position must meet all the requirements of becoming a Special Police Officer in the Town of Wellesley and Needham. Retention of valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's License, Massachusetts Firearm License to Carry Class A is required.
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Clery Act, which is an individual to which students and employees should report criminal offenses or who has significant responsibility for student and campus activities. A CSA shall report all allegations of Clery Act crimes they receive to the Public Safety Department, so they may be investigated and published in the College's Annual Security and Fire Report.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Appointees to the Police Sergeant of Public Safety position must successfully complete a one-year probationary period. Permanent and continuing appointment is contingent upon successful completion of such training programs as designated by the Chief of Police or their designee.
MENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Appointees must be in good mental and physical condition, and are subject to psychological evaluations and drug testing, and fitness for duty examinations as may from time to time be prescribed by the Chief of Police or their designee.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS YOU MAY HAVE
Previous police experience, especially in a college or university police department is preferred in a sworn or non-sworn position.
Specialized Public Safety related training and certifications are strongly desired.
