Seguin ISD company history timeline

1823

He helped his mother run his father’s post office while the latter served in Congress in 1823-24.

1828

Seguín’s election as alderman in December 1828 demonstrated his great potential.

1835

Seguín’s military career began in 1835.

1842

In fear for his safety, Seguín resigned as mayor on April 18, 1842, and shortly thereafter fled to Mexico with his family.

1865

Then in February of 1865, after the federal government began to recruit African Americans to serve as soldiers, Ball officially enlisted in the 16th Colored Infantry.

1871

Then, in 1871, he moved to Seguin, where he organized the first school for African-American students within the town’s limits.

1887

Ball became involved in the founding of Guadalupe College, a Baptist institution of higher learning for African Americans that opened its doors in Seguin in 1887.

1923

Doctor Ball lived until January 26, 1923.

1925

The facility was renamed Ball High in honor of its founder in 1925.

1991
