Sejong University company history timeline
1947 05 The Seoul Women's College of Education was established
In 1947 the institute grew into the Seoul Women Teachers' Institute, with Doctor Choo as its first Director; the following year it was reorganized and became a junior college.
1948 08 The institute was reorganized into the 「Seoul College of Education for Family and Nursing」, right with the establishment of the ROK government
In 1966 the Graduate School was established.
In 1973, the Soodo Museum (now Sejong University Museum), established to house the founders' collection of Korean antiquities, opened its doors to the public.
In 1979 Soodo Women Teachers' College changed its name to Sejong College and admitted male undergraduates for the first time.
In October 1987 Sejong College grew into Sejong University, consisting of five colleges with an enrollment of 6,000 students.
In 1996, Doctor Choo Myung-Gun became Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
In 1998 the College of Tourism and the department of Biological Engineering were founded.
In 1999 three new graduate schools were added: Software Engineering, Science and Technology, and Performance Art Administration.
In 2000 the Graduate Schools of Film Art and Techno Design were founded; the Graduate School of Business Administration became the Graduate School of Global Business Administration; the College of Tourism became the College of Hotels and Tourism.
In 2001 a collaborative relationship was established with the Korea Science and Culture Foundation.
In January 2002 a University Development Advisory Board, composed of the CEOs of 30 major Korean firms, was founded to strengthen the university's ties to industry.
In 2002 the education Reform Deliberation Commission officially awarded Sejong University for successfully restructuring and renovating university.
In 2004 the Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development recognized Sejong University for excellence in promoting originality, innovation, and academic achievement.
05 Sejong University entered the top 150 universities for the 2014 QS-Chosun Daily Ranking for Asian Universities
08 Sejong University was classified as rank A(Best) in the 2015 University Structural Reform Evaluation done by the Ministry of Education
2016 05 Sejong Univeristy ranked 11th in the Liden World University Rankings in 2016
09 Sejong University was selected for the Creative Korea(CK) University Specialization Project in 2016
05 Sejong University ranked 4th overall, 1st in social sciences and humanities , 5th in biology/geology, and 6th in natural sciences/engineering within Korea in the 2018 Leiden World University Rankings
06 Sejong University was selected as a self-developing University in the [2018 University Basic Competence Examination] by the Ministry of Education
05 Sejong University ranked 4th overall, 2nd in social sciences and humanities , 2nd in mathematics/computer science, and 3rd in biology/geology within Korea in the 2019 Leiden World University Rankings
Sejong University ranked 14th in Korea, and 102nd in Asia in the 2020 THE Asian University Rankings.
06 Sejong University ranked 10th in Korea, and 46th in Asia in the 2021 THE Asian University Rankings.
06 Sejong University was newly appointed as a University specialized in information protection in 2021
09 Sejong University was designated as a university suitable for public financing in the [2021 University Basic Competence Examination] by the Ministry of Education
