Selco company history timeline

1960

SELCO has its origin in the Danish switchgear manufacturer Lauritz Knudsen A/S who in 1960 was the first in the world to protect a generator with robust, solid state electronics!

1968

In 1968 Lauritz Knudsen A/S merged with another major switchgear manufacturer, NES. Through the next decade the company was named LK-NES. The early product range of generator control and alarm systems was marketed under the name NESELCO.

1982

1982 – Selco Sewell & Co (Timber) change their name to Selco and begin to format a new business model akin to retail cash and carry but exclusively for the bonafide builder.

1984

In 1984 SELCO A/S was established.

1990

1990 – Opening in Wales Selco expanded, opening it's first store outside of the Midlands in Swansea, South Wales.

1991

Average Selco life expectancy in 1991 was 72 years.

1993

1993 – Relocation for Minworth Minworth branch in Birmingham relocates to larger premises from the Fort Industrial Park.

1998

1998 – Grafton Group Plc Selco is purchased by merchanting and DIY group Grafton Group Plc.

2001

2001 – More Midlands Expansion Selco opens up in Dudley, the first Selco store in the Black Country and at the time the fourth in the Midlands.

2003

2003 – Opening in Croydon Selco opens in Croydon for the first time and its Stirchley branch in Birmingham relocates to new larger premises, doubling in size.

2005

To obtain the right environment for further growth, SELCO moved in 2005 to new and larger premises in Roskilde, Denmark.

2006

2006 – Expanding into the North West Selco expands its geographical coverage to include the North West, opening up in Baguley and Ashton Moss in Manchester.

2008

SELCO Foundation started in 2008 as SELCO Innovation Labs

2009

2009 – East Midlands Selco Builders Warehouse continued to grow, opening a further three new branches in Romford (East London), Nottingham (the first branch in the East Midlands) and in the Ruxley area of Sidcup, in South London.

2011

SELCO was acquired by Littelfuse Inc. in 2011.

2014

2014 – Isleworth Branch Opens 35th branch opens in Isleworth and the hire service is rolled out across our London branch network.

2016

Five years later, in March 2016, SELCO went through a management buy-out, and is now again privately owned, with headoffice in Roskilde, Denmark.

2017

2017 – The Project Tool App The Project Tool App is released and becomes transactional.

2018

2018 – Seven new branches York opens, another new area for Selco.
