The Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County is a nonprofit charitable law firm dedicated to ensuring equal access to the justice system for the low-income, disadvantaged and traditionally underserved residents of Palm Beach County. The Legal Aid Society's Immigrant Advocacy Project provides free legal services to immigrants applying for lawful permanent residency, with a focus on noncitizen victims of domestic violence and dependent immigrant children, and community education in the area of immigration and nationality law.
*JOB SUMMARY:*
Provides immigration representation to low-income residents of Palm Beach County with an emphasis on representing victims of violent crime, victims of domestic violence and victims of human trafficking. Work schedule is generally Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with additional evening or weekend work as required to effectively represent clients. Travel throughout Palm Beach County and occasional travel to Broward County, Dade County and other counties within the jurisdiction of the West Palm Beach USCIS Field Office is required. Attorney is supervised by and reports directly to the Supervising Attorney. Bilingual (English and Spanish) required.
*ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:*
* Represents clients in immigration matters before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Executive Office for Immigration Review.
* Handles all aspects of immigration case preparation from beginning to end.
* Conducts interviews of clients at the office and at outreach locations.
* Assesses eligibility for project representation and options for immigration benefits.
* Investigates and develops cases, including conducting necessary interviews and consulting appropriate agencies and resources.
* Drafts letters, memos, pleadings, briefs, and other legal documents and written materials as necessary.
* Performs legal research.
* Ensures compliance with case count and billing requirements as required by project funders.
* Maintains accurate and complete records and files regarding cases. Opens and closes files, enters billing and detailed case notes in case management databases.
* Makes referrals to appropriate alternative or additional sources of assistance.
* Develops a working knowledge of immigration law and procedure as it pertains to humanitarian relief with an emphasis on options for victims of domestic violence, victims of violent crime and victims of human trafficking.
* May be required to develop and conduct occasional informational presentations for partner agencies.
* Attends staff and other meetings in the community as assigned.
* Maintains confidentiality of all information.
* Complies with all unit and agency policies and procedures.

* Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) from A.B.A. accredited law school.
* Member in good standing of a bar association within the United States.

Qualifications:
GL-9: You qualify for the GL-9 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Performing physical searches of detained individuals, their vehicles, and their immediate surroundings for weapons, contraband, currency, and other evidence.
Apprehending, physically restraining, or working with law enforcement officials to identify or apprehend violators of state, federal, or immigration laws.
Proficient in the use of firearms, preparing investigative reports, serving court orders (e.g., warrants, subpoenas, etc.), and gathering evidence for criminal cases prosecuted through the court system.
If you have previous or current law enforcement or military law enforcement experience, you may qualify at the GS-11 grade level.
GS-11: You qualify for the GS-11 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, with the authority granted by the state or government to enforce laws, make arrests, and investigate crimes, performing primary duties in an official law enforcement capacity such as:
Utilizing intelligence information to track illegal operations, criminal activity, threats to our nation, and/or contraband while serving as a state, federal, or military law enforcement official.
Leading investigations of fraud, contraband, criminal activity, threats to our nation, and/or illegal operations to determine sources and patterns while serving as a state, federal, or military law enforcement official.
Apprehending violators of state, federal, or immigration laws by utilizing various forms of complex technology that include surveillance, detection, situation awareness systems, and/or communications equipment.
The above experience will be applied in connection with the following: Make arrests and exercise sound judgment in the use of firearms; deal effectively with people in a courteous manner in connection with law enforcement matters; analyze information rapidly and make prompt decisions; or develop and maintain contact with a network of informants.
There are no education substitutions for the GL-9 or GS-11 grade-level Border Patrol Agent opportunities.

Border Patrol work requires the ability to speak and read Spanish, as well as English. Border Patrol Agents will be provided training to become proficient in the Spanish language at the Academy.

Responsibilities of Registered Nurses (RNs)
Medication administration per physician orders
Physician ordered treatments for:
Nutrition via a feeding tube
Tracheostomy care
Suctioningnasal, oral and/or endotracheal
Ventilation care
Seizure assessment and treatment
Requirements for Registered Nurses (RNs)
Current, active Florida RN license
Current BLS CPR card (obtained in-person, not online)
TB Skin Test (PPD) or TB Blood Test (QF)
Alzheimer's training - 2 Hour DOEA Approved Course (provided at no cost if needed)
1- Hour DOEA Alzheimer's Video (provided free of cost on DOEA website)

This is an in-office position that largely involves motion practice, document review, and general civil procedure in the Georgia courts. There will be no court appearances in GA matters. Candidate will be working with a large team of attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, and process owners as we move heavy case volume through the Georgia courts.
