    Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting Manager is responsible for the monthly clinical trial and outside laboratory accrual process and all forecasting related to these expenditures. The incumbent will have strong accounting expertise, a deep understanding of clinical trial operations and thrive in a dynamic, late phase pre-commercial biotech environment. The Accounting Manager will also assist with the month-end financial closing process, account reconciliations, and audit requests as needed. NOTE: This is a remote role based in the US. Duties and Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to): Clinical Trial and Lab Accruals Manage Clinical Trial & Outside laboratory service accruals process and effectively work cross-functionally to ensure fully detailed and accurate accruals for the clinical trial & outside laboratory expenses for each month. Partner with Clinical Operations, Regulatory, and external vendors (CROs, labs, specialty service providers) to gather relevant data for accruals and cost tracking. Develop and maintain robust accrual methodologies that align with trial complexities, including variable site activity and milestone-based contracts. Invoicing - review the clinical and outside laboratory invoicing for accuracy and ensure that the invoice amounts are within the contracted amounts and are billable under the current contract/work order. Work with the management team to resolve any discrepancies. Forecasting Assist the management team with projections of future expenditures/cash requirements related to our clinical trials and outside laboratory studies. Forecast clinical and lab expenditures, incorporating trial timelines, enrollment rates, and protocol amendments. Support FP&A and Clinical teams in developing forecasts and annual budgets for ongoing and planned clinical programs. Provide variance analyses comparing actuals to forecasts/budgets and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to explain deviations. Reporting and Audit Support Account reconciliations - complete the quarterly account reconciliations for accrued expenses and prepaid accounts related to the clinical trial and outside laboratory studies. Support documentation and analysis needs for financial audits, board reporting, and due diligence processes. Contribute to SEC reporting (e.g., 10-Q, 10-K) as needed Vendor and Contract oversight Monitor spend against vendor contracts and manage the financial aspect of change orders and amendments. Ensure all financial terms in MSAs and Work Orders are appropriately captured in accrual and forecasting models. Coordinate with Accounts Payable to reconcile invoices and ensure payments align with contract terms and completed milestones. Education/Experience/Skills: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or MBA preferred. 5+ years of progressive accounting or financial experience and 2+ years supporting clinical trial finance in a biotech, pharmaceutical, or CRO setting. Experience with clinical trial accruals/expense tracking. Strong knowledge of US GAAP and accrual-based accounting. Proven experience working with late-phase, pre-commercial (e.g. 2b, 3) clinical trials and managing financial implications of multiple concurrent studies. Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and particularly Excel). Working knowledge of accrual software systems such as Auxilus. Experience working with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, NetSuite) Experience using CTMS/EDC platforms desirable Strong written and verbal communications skills and ability to communicate effectively with both financial and non-financial stakeholders. Familiarity with clinical trial budgeting tools, milestone-based contracts, and site management organizations (SMOs) is preferred. Comfortable working in a dynamic and evolving environment with ongoing infrastructure build and multiple priorities. Ability to proactively identify process improvements and implement scalable solutions in anticipation of late-stage or commercial needs.
