The Opportunity
As a dedicated Property Adjuster, you will work within defined guidelines and framework, investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and settle low to moderate complexity property insurance claims. You will confirm/analyze coverage, recognize liability exposure and negotiate equitable settlement in compliance with all state regulatory requirements. You will recognize and empathize with members life events, as appropriate.
This hybrid role requires an individual to be in the office 3 days per week,available to work standard business hours Monday-Friday with availability for occasional evenings and weekends as business need dictates. This position can be based in in our office in Colorado Springs, CO. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
What you'll do:
Proactively manages assigned claims caseload comprised of claims with low to moderate complexity damages that require commensurate knowledge and understanding of claims coverage.
Partners with vendors and internal business partners to facilitate low to moderate complexity claims resolution. May also involve external regulatory coordination to ensure appropriate documentation and compliance.
Investigates claim damages by conducting research from various sources, including the insured, third parties, and external resources. May identify and resolve potential discrepancies and identifies subrogation potential resulting from unusual characteristics.
Identifies coverage concerns, reviews prior loss history, determines and creates Special Investigation Unit (SIU) referrals, when appropriate. Determines coverage through analyzing investigation information involving low to moderate complexity policy terms and contingencies.
Determines and negotiates low to moderate complexity claims settlement. Coordinates with management for guidance on assessing settlement amounts outside of authority limits to support managing claims outcomes.
Maintains accurate, thorough, and current claim file documentation throughout the claims process.
Applies knowledge of estimating technology platforms and virtual inspection tools to prepare and manage low to moderate complexity property insurance claims estimates
Recognizes and addresses jurisdictional challenges such as applicable legislation and construction considerations.
Supports workload surges and catastrophe (CAT) response operations as needed, including mandatory on-call dates and potential evening, weekend, and/or holiday work outside normal work hours.
May be assigned CAT deployment travel with minimal notice during designated CATs.
Works various types of claims, including ones of higher complexity, and may be assigned additional work outside normal duties as needed.
Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma.
1 year of customer service, military leadership, construction related industry/insurance experience and/or experience handling low complexity property claims
Knowledge of estimating losses using Xactimate or similar tools and platforms.
Demonstrated negotiation, investigation, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
Working knowledge and understanding of claims contracts as well as application of case law and state laws and regulations.
Ability to prioritize and multi-task, including navigating through multiple business applications.
May need to travel up to 25% of the year (local & non-local) and/or work catastrophe duty when needed.
Acquisition and maintenance of insurance adjuster license within 90 days and 3 attempts.

As a Commercial Casualty ClaimsAdjuster, you will serve as a real partner to our members by processing claims accurately and efficiently so they can resume their life's work without unnecessary delay. Accountabilities:
This position handles Commercial General Liability, Commercial Trucking, Director's & Officer Liability, Employment Practices Liability, Commercial Auto injuries, Contractor's Pollution Liability, Professional Liability and other Casualty exposures.
Investigates coverage and cause of loss on routine to more complicated claims, which includes but is not limited to policy review, interviewing all parties associated with the loss and gathering and analyzing all necessary investigative documentation.
Handles non-represented, represented and litigated injury and property damage claims including investigating and evaluating those exposures. Identifies exposures with significate severity to triage to the large loss team.

Prepares written communication, including but not limited to settlement letters, disclaimers of coverage and reservation of rights letters.

This role is eligible for a sign-on bonus.

Under general supervision, manage Workers' Compensation claims with lost time to conclusion and negotiate settlements where appropriate to resolve claims. Coordinate medical and indemnity position of the claim with a Medical Case Manager. Independently handles assigned claims of low to moderate complexity where Wage loss and the expectation is a return to work to modified or full duty or obtain MMI with no RTW. There are no litigated issues or minor to moderate litigated issues. The claim may involve minor sprains/ minor to moderate surgery. The Injured worker is working modified duty and receiving ongoing medical treatment. The injured worker has returned to work, reached Maximum Medical Improvement (MMI) and is receiving PPD benefits. File will close as soon as the PPD is paid out. Independently handles all assigned claims up to and including most complex where Injured worker (IW) remains out of work and unlikely to return to position. Employer is unable to accommodate the restrictions. The claim involves moderate to complex litigation issues IW has returned to work, reached Maximum Medical Improvement (MMI), and has PPD. File litigated to dispute the permanency rating and/or causality. IW has been released to work with permanent restrictions and job is no longer available. IW is receiving Vocational Rehabilitation. Claims that have been reopened for additional medical treatment on more complex files. Injuries may involve one or multiple back, shoulder or knee surgeries, knee replacements, claims involving moderate to complex offsets, permanent restrictions and/or fatalities. **What Will You Do?**

We need our Resolution Specialists to do all the things typical to the role:
Provide prompt, courteous, and high-quality customer service to all policyholders and claimants by answering customer calls, texts, and/or emails in a timely and accurate manner.
Gather necessary information from customers to initiate the claim and explain policy, coverage, and educate them on the claims process and next steps.
Manage an inventory of claims, establish initial reserves for all potential exposures, and adjust as appropriate throughout the claim.
Work with the APD team on the handling of property damage claims.
Recognize recovery opportunities with regard to subrogation and salvage, as well as total loss.
Ensure compliance with specific state regulations, policy provisions, and standard operating procedures.
Negotiate appropriate settlements with claimants, insureds, and attorneys within approved payment authority.
Provide input to continuously develop claims guidelines, best practices, and process improvements.
Know the claims inside and out and ensure outside investigative service providers, including independent appraisers and defense counsel, are guided based on what we need to move the file to a quick and appropriate resolution. All the while keeping our clients updated where needed.

Position Purpose
Join RLI's Professional Services Group (PSG) as a Technical Claim Manager, where you'll handle complex, multi-party professional liability matters involving architects, engineers, surveyors and other miscellaneous professionals. You'll be part of a collaborative team of examiners focused on resolving technically challenging claims with nuanced expert analysis, creative problem-solving and intensive contractual risk transfer analysis. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of claims across a nationwide coverage area, requiring strategic thinking, detailed investigation, and discerning attorney management. We're looking for someone who can proactively manage a balanced caseload, share knowledge with the team, and uphold RLI's reputation for technical excellence and proactive claims handling.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
* Proactively handle professional liability claims involving design and miscellaneous professional matters. Employee will handle both litigation and pre-litigation disputes to achieve optimum payout results by resolving claims fairly, expeditiously, and economically.
* Assess and analyze coverage issues on claims, and issue appropriate coverage letters and documentation.
* Complete timely investigation of claims and post appropriate reserves.
* Pursue risk transfer opportunities, including dealing with contractual indemnity and additional insured issues.
* Handle claims in accordance with RLI's Best Practices.
* Resolve claims in timely manner to an effective outcome.
* Travel to and attend mediations and/or settlement conferences as warranted.
Education & Experience
Typically requires a bachelor's degree in business administration, insurance, or a related field and 6+ years of relevant legal or insurance related experience or Juris Doctorate with relevant insurance defense litigation experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Competencies
* Meaningful experience handling claims under professional liability policies. The ideal candidate will have superior working knowledge of case law, statutes, and procedures impacting the handling and value of claims.
* Proactive investigation, risk transfer, claim handling, attorney management, and claims resolution are essential.
* Superior writing and communication skills to work effectively with insureds, claimants, underwriters, and upper management.

The base salary range for the position is listed below. Please note that the base salary is only one component of our robust total rewards package at RLI. The salary offered will take into account a number of factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications/credentials, talent availability & specialization, as well as business needs. The below range may be modified in the future.

Responsibilities
Responsible for performance, development and coaching of staff (including hiring, terminating, performance and salary management). Serve as technical resource not only for claims staff, but also cross-functional partners, including Underwriting (UW), Actuarial, Finance and Operations.
Work with claims team and external attorneys to review coverages, investigate claims, analyze liability and damages, establish adequate indemnity and expense reserves, develop strategies and resolve claims, including, but not limited to direct participation in mediation and arbitration and active participation in settlement discussions.
Perform quality assurance reviews/observations and provide feedback to team as well as action plan for development of team, where necessary.
Actively pursue all avenues of recovery including, but not limited to timely recovery of deductibles from insureds and manage subrogation activities.
Provide regular reports to claims management regarding losses either exceeding or likely to exceed the authority level in accordance with best practices. Must be able to present effectively, produce appropriate reports and develop team and train team in these skills
Partner with underwriting managers/team to provide excellent customer service and to market and meet with brokers, risk managers and reinsurers. Serve as external face claims leader for product line and demonstrate ability to forge and maintain relationships with external customers, effectively resolving concerns where necessary. Ability to effectively articulate the claims value proposition in claims advocacy meetings, account renewals and new business prospecting. Present at industry conferences or publishes external industry content.
Lead short to medium-term strategic claims activities/priorities for the product line, with alignment with the strategic priorities of IronHealth and NAS Claims. Oversee projects assigned by the department head.
Direct and manage the Claims participation and content for multidisciplinary reviews, monthly UW connectivity meetings, and quarterly actuarial meetings. Ensure timely feedback to senior management, underwriting and actuaries regarding relevant losses, account issues, and trends.
Assist and coordinate with underwriting team regarding new policy forms, product development and/or product rollouts and provide timely feedback to senior management and underwriting regarding recommendations.
Ability to achieve fluency in Loss Triangle interpretation and Product Level Profitability Understanding/Awareness.

A minimum of 8+ years of relevant and progressively more responsible work experience required, including at least 2 years of supervisory experience.
At least 5 years claims handling within a technical specialty. Requires advanced knowledge of claims handling concepts, practices, procedures and techniques, including, but not limited to coverage issues, product lines, marketing, computers and product competition within the marketplace.
Requires advanced knowledge of a technical specialty. Knowledge of law and insurance regulations in various jurisdictions.
The ability to effectively interact with brokers and internal departments is also required. Strong verbal and written communications and organizational skills.
