We are looking for a talented and proactive SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) with a strong background in SQL development and performance tuning, particularly within the utility sector. This position involves a blend of database administration and development responsibilities, focusing on optimizing database performance and supporting application teams in real-time applications, SCADA, and transmission/distribution systems. Job Description What you'll do: Database Administration Monitor and maintain database health, performance, and security. Implement and manage database backup and recovery strategies. Ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness. Manage user access and roles, ensuring compliance with data governance and security policies. Perform audits and vulnerability assessments to maintain security standards. Analyze and optimize SQL queries and overall database performance. Identify and resolve bottlenecks in database systems. Implement indexing, tuning strategies, and partitioning for performance gains. Resolve platform-related issues and participate in incident response. Coordinate with vendors for product-related issues, patches, and bug fixes. Work closely with application developers, system administrators, and business analysts to understand new requirements and recommend high-level direction and approach. Provide support for development, testing, and production environments. Develop scripts for monitoring, maintenance, and automation tasks. Utilize tools like shell scripting, Python, or Perl to automate processes. What We're Looking For: Database Administrator Developer Sr(Grade 8) Education requirements are listed below: Associates Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or related Technical field or higher from an accredited college/university or high school diploma and two years related military or electric utility technical experience. Work Experience requirement listed below: Six (6) years EMS/SCADA experience with associate's degree or eight (8) years of experience with a high school diploma. Individuals with a bachelor's degree and 4 years of EMS/SCADA experience may be considered for entry into the organization at this level. In addition to the EMS/SCADA experience noted above, detailed knowledge is required in three other pertinent areas below: Application development Operating System support Computer system administration Database technologies and support**Distribution - can use this job family, need to update language in actual posting to reflect DMS and Distribution and remove EMS and transmission references OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Proven experience in installation, configuration, and management of SQL Server (including multiple instances on a single server/VM). Expertise in performance tuning, index management, and SQL query optimization. Strong skills in TSQL and PowerShell. Nice to Haves Working experience with MongoDB and PostgreSQL. Background in utility space, real-time applications, SCADA, and transmission/distribution systems is an added advantage. Provides database support by verifying databases associated with network tools and solutions function as required. Responsible for managing the routine operations and maintenance of databases and ensuring their reliable and efficient performance. Focuses on establishing the architecture, design, and security of various databases. Administer, develop, test, and support database systems. Evaluate user requirements, assist in designing and developing database structures, test and coordinate system changes. Collaborate with developers and end users to determine data access needs, transaction volumes, performance expectations, and other information necessary to build and maintain integrated databases. Perform a wide range of database-related functions across one or more teams or clients, including designing, implementing, and maintaining new databases, as well as supporting backup/recovery operations and configuration management. Install and configure database management systems (DBMS) and contribute to the enhancement of procedures, documentation, and development practices used for troubleshooting and daily operations. Provide database development support, such as creating tables, writing basic queries or stored procedures, and assisting with data modeling, to ensure database solutions meet organizational requirements. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in a related field of study. Dependent upon contract requirement 5-10 years of related work experience. Other Job Specific Skills Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills. Advanced written and verbal communication skills. Ability to multitask and work well under pressure. Advanced knowledge of database backup and recovery strategies. Experience with DBA productivity and performance tools. Experience with DoD and Federal Government is strongly desired. Advanced knowledge of security network and infrastructure tools, including access control and/or encryption. In depth knowledge of troubleshooting skills and out of the box thinking to overcome data obstacles. Ability to delegate/split tasks among a team.
