Responsibilities
SSOE is seeking an experienced Electrical Designer. The ideal candidate will have consulting engineering experience in power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, communications, electronic safety and security systems, and grounding for educational (K-12 and higher education) and/or commercial facilities. Aviation experience is a plus. Medium voltage design experience is required. This position has some day-related flexible work schedules and work from home options.

• Produces finished plans and specifications and final acceptance or rejection of major items involving materials, equipment, manufacturer's quality, and field construction results.
• Typical design tasks include power distribution at low and medium voltage, lighting, fire alarm, communications, electronic safety and security systems, control and calculations, grounding system design and power study analysis.
• Serves as a job captain on single discipline projects and may serve as a job captain on multi-discipline projects.
• Prepares or reviews construction budgets based on experience and scope of project.
• Writes scope of work for design based on preliminary review and meetings with the customer.
• May be requested to perform project management functions.
• May assign and review work of project design team. Checks progress of work and alerts project manager to changes of scope or additional services.
• May represent the firm in meetings and conferences to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate a project.
• May prepare total design and construction cost estimates.
Qualifications
• Associate degree or certification of completion of other post-secondary training in Electrical Engineering preferred.
• Minimum fifteen (15) years of experience with SSOE as a Designer or nineteen (19) years of experience with former employer(s).
• Experience with medium voltage strongly desired.

A Senior Electrical Designer will lead various phases of planning, site evaluations, analytical designs, design documents for prospoals, report preparation, specifications, and preparation of construction documentation and electrical plans as part of a project team. This position will lead various projects with a diverse portfolio of project types and clients. Lead various electrical project designs including electrical schematics, grid plan layouts, electrical power systems, lighting systems, protection and controls, and site and facility design. Follow all company, client and project design and drafting standards.

* Lead drawing, planning, development and production work including problem analysis, design layout and calculations on non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity.

* Lead a variety of assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques including drawing sequence and presentation, sizing various system components and refining rough sketches.

* Lead the evaluation of designs or sketches and redlines or mark-ups on ongoing projects for quality assurance.
* Approve reports, drawings, and tests to plan and lead design projects to meet deliverables.
* Approve design codes and specifications related to design requirements.
* Lead production of design drawings within scope, budget and schedule. Perform project tasks and assignments within budgeted hours and deadlines.
* Compute volume calculations for conduit/grounding layouts, equipment and panel wiring diagrams, and relay panel schematics under the direction of the engineer.
* Incorporate schedules, budgets and project criteria into electrical design and layouts for project financial goals.
* Responsible for the quality review of all revisions of project drawings, plot files and project-related information in a logical and well-structured manner.
* Train, mentor, and develop less experienced drafting, detailing and design staff members.
* Participate in marketing and possible client development meetings.
* Responsible for the electrical design QA/QC process.
* All other duties as assigned. Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in drafting technology or related field and thirteen years related experience or associate's degree and fourteen years related experience or fifteen years progressive detailing and design experience.
* Expert understanding of design software such as: AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Excel to develop the design deliverables. Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs.
* Expert ability to utilize 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings.
* Expert knowledge in design, calculations and design systems.
* Expert knowledge in the theory and practices of assigned discipline; competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to the assigned discipline; and capable of operating related discipline design software necessary to execute production tasks.
* Work collaboratively with others including, but not limited to clients (Project Managers, Engineers and Designers) in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives.

DESCRIPTION:
The title “Senior Designer” designates employees performing duties in connection with difficult and complex electrical drafting assignments.

Under general supervision, the Senior Designer designs, assembles, prepares and makes revisions on existing drawings. Prepares and makes new drawings on the most difficult and complex projects and performs related field checking. Instructs other employees in the work of this grade.

MININUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Ability to work in the office or field.
2. Must be familiar with the engineering practices associated with assigned projects and electric utility construction practices and procedures
3. Must be able to organize and direct within his/her grade the progress of drafting projects to completion in accordance with prescribed practices.
4. Must have demonstrated an interest and aptitude for higher grade drafting work.
5. Must have at least three years' drafting and design experience utilizing Computer Aided Drafting (CAD)
6. Associates Degree in Drafting, Survey Technology or related discipline. Bachelors Degree preferred.
