    Odys Aviation

Senior electrical engineer job in Long Beach, CA

About Odys Our mission at Odys is simple - we build safe, sustainable aircraft to cut travel time in half on the world's busiest corridors. Our flagship aircraft Alta enables travelers to skip the big-airport hassle by using city helipads and local airports to connect cities less than 1,000 miles apart (approx 40% of flights). And on average cut CO2 by 76% on tens of billions of flight miles globally. To get there, we start with our UAV called Laila for commercial logistics, medical transport, humanitarian aid, disaster relief, and defense missions. We're deploying aircraft with launch partners (Fiji Airways, Honeywell, Aramex, US Navy) beginning in late 2025 and already have firm orders for aircraft under contract. We're a team of expert engineers from deep tech and aerospace that focus on fast iterations loops (completed transition flight faster than our peers) combined with mastery of the aircraft certification process. Previously, our team developed custom drones, brought multiple automotive platforms into production, and electrified transportation vehicles that magnetically levitate, that roll, that fly. Together, we've been learning, developing, building, testing, and preparing for this challenge our entire lives. About The Role Odys Aviation is pioneering next-generation hybrid-electric aircraft to make sustainable high-speed regional travel a reality. As a Senior Power Electronics Engineer, you will be at the core of our powertrain development, designing and optimizing high-voltage inverters, converters, and motor controllers for our UAV (Laila) and eVTOL (Alta) programs. This role is critical to advancing our high-power, high-frequency switching power electronics stage platforms, tightly coupled embedded controls and fault-resilient propulsion architectures. You will be a hands-on engineer, independently driving hardware design from concept to prototype and validation, ensuring compliance with aerospace standards (ARP4754B, DO-178C, DO-254). Working closely with propulsion, embedded systems, and flight controls teams, you will lay the technical foundation for Odys' powertrain systems and help scale the team as the company grows. Responsibilities Design & Develop high-voltage(400-800VDC) inverters, converters, motor controllers, power filters, and gate drivers for aircraft propulsion. End-to-end hardware development, including characterization of high-power switching devices, designing double-pulse test setups, optimizing DC bulk capacitor selection, and developing thermal management and fault protection strategies. Perform high-fidelity simulations using MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, and SPICE to validate and optimize hardware designs. Integrate hardware with embedded controllers, ensuring robust gate driver design, PMSM motor control, and real-time system monitoring. Ensure compliance with aerospace certification standards (ARP4754B, DO-178C, DO-254) and document design decisions for regulatory approval. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to test, troubleshoot, and refine designs through iterative prototyping. Lead hands-on validation efforts, including lab testing, debugging, and system integration with propulsion and flight hardware. Requirements Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field. 5+ years of hands-on experience designing and testing high-voltage power electronics. Deep expertise in SiC MOSFET-based inverter/converter design, gate driver circuitry, and HV system protection. Strong understanding of PMSM motor control, embedded systems, and fault detection & mitigation. Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, and SPICE for powertrain analysis. Ability to work independently, meet critical milestones, and drive projects from concept to hardware validation. Preferred Qualifications Experience in aerospace or eVTOL powertrain development and familiarity with aircraft certification processes. Expertise in DO-178C (software) and DO-254 (hardware) compliance in regulated environments. Strong background in HV system protection strategies, fault handling, and EMI mitigation. Experience developing advanced control algorithms for PMSMs and high-performance electric motors. Track record of delivering production-ready power electronics in cross-functional engineering teams. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills to drive data-driven decisions

    Arc Boat Company

Senior electrical engineer job in Torrance, CA

What we're building Our vision is to electrify all waterborne vessels, and we're starting with electric water sport boats. Gas boats dominate today's marine industry not because of great product offerings but because of a lack of better alternatives. Boaters have grown accustomed to vehicles that feel stuck in the 1980s: unreliable, expensive, loud, noxious, and a nightmare to own and operate. They're also awful for the water and air they reside in. By contrast, electric boats are superior in nearly every way: not only are they far more reliable and less costly to operate, but they're also quieter, quicker, and cleaner, with no fumes or pollutants. However, they've been held back by both the technology and the talent to make them truly competitive with gas alternatives. That's Arc's opportunity. Using modern, aerospace- and automotive-inspired techniques, we're building our hulls, batteries, cooling systems, firmware, and software together to deliver the next generation of watercraft. What we're looking for We're looking for someone who's fired up by our mission and ready to build. You'll thrive here if you adapt quickly, take ownership, and care about the details. This is a full-time, on-site role at our Los Angeles headquarters. You'll report to the manager, Electrical Systems Engineering and work closely with a lean, high-trust team where everyone's work matters. Core responsibilities Defining system requirements, interfaces, and architecture for Arc's electrical subsystems. Developing and maintaining system diagrams, including I/O maps and electrical/communication topology. Leading hardware trade studies and evaluating electrical/HMI components and suppliers. Working closely with all engineering teams to ensure cross-domain alignment. Participating in system-level integration and validation on full-boat builds. Leading troubleshooting for HV/LV systems, cooling systems, sensors, and communication networks. Supporting DFMEA activities, functional safety discussions, and design reviews. Contributing to next-generation electrical architecture planning and platform scalability. Basic qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, or a related field 5+ years of experience in electrical systems integration, hardware development, or system-level engineering Strong understanding of HV/LV electrical systems, power distribution, sensors, cooling systems, and communication networks (e.g., CAN) Hands-on experience debugging HV/LV systems, cooling loops, harnesses, and embedded hardware interactions Experience developing system requirements, interface definitions, and architectural documentation Strong communication skills, both written and verbal Ability to take ownership of problems, drive them to closure, and adapt quickly in a dynamic environment Bonus qualifications Experience with EMC/EMI pre-compliance testing, certification processes, or external test labs Familiarity with functional safety concepts (e.g., hazard analysis, safety goals, fault handling), even if not formal ISO certification work Experience with trade studies or vendor evaluations for electrical components, power electronics, or HMI hardware Familiarity with EV, marine, robotics, or aerospace electrical architectures Experience with simulation or system modeling tools (e.g., Vector, Simulink, PLECS, LTSpice) Experience with DFMEA, reliability engineering, or design review processes Experience with HMI or user-input devices (joystick, throttle, buttons, panels) Familiarity with OBCs, chargers, or HV device integration At Arc, we encourage diversity and consider all qualified applicants equally for employment, regardless of background, identity, or status. You're always welcome to reach out even if you don't meet many of these qualifications. Passion and aptitude make up for a lot. What we value We value these five things above all else: Ownership over both your work and the company's success Empathy for colleagues and for customers Humility in problem solving and collaboration Pragmatism for navigating ambiguity quickly and sensibly Inclusion of different backgrounds, opinions, cultures, etc. Given that we work in a sometimes intense or stressful environment, it's vital that our values align.
