A Senior Engineer is part of a key team of Nordstrom Technology professionals that applies scientific, mathematical, and social principles to design, build, and maintain technology products, devices, systems, and solutions. The Senior Engineer role is in the Selling Control & Pricing Organization. We are a fast-growing team with the vision to change how Nordstrom & Nordstrom Rack sells to its customers and cardmembers. We are building a new machine learning and rules-based engine that intends to automate selling and pricing outcomes. We have both front-end and back-end services natively deployed on the cloud (AWS). Price promotions and clearances are core business functions that we already support today.

A day in the life…
Responsible for feature design; evaluate designs and provide feedback
Influence quality standards and understand, identify, measure across entire solution
Identify performance issues and optimize solutions

We'd love it if you have…
Bachelor's or Master's degree in an engineering discipline, preferably computer science, or equivalent
7+ years of professional experience in delivering quality software, ideally across the full stack
Excellent proficiency in an Object-Oriented language, such as Java, C++, C#, etc.
Experience building enterprise level web applications from scratch, should be able to demonstrate deep understanding of technology choices
Experience with RESTful architecture and micro services
Experience with system design, architecture, scaling, and performance testing. Experience building services a plus
Experience with Cloud technologies, proficiency with AWS a plus
Experience with databases. Familiarity with NoSQL databases is a plus
Familiarity with CI/CD and testing tools. Experience with Kubernetes and Docker is a plus

* Research, develop, review, approve, and assist with production and implementation of: Design Standards which are used by Seattle City Light's engineers to design the T&D system, Material Standards which establish the requirements for the material and equipment that we purchase and install, and Construction Standards which detail how to build our above and below ground, electric distribution system. Work Practices provide step-by-step instructions on how to perform a task.
* Interview field personnel, engineers, manufacturer's representatives and sales engineers, senior standards personnel, and others in the field and the office. National industry standards, national, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations will be studied and applied.
* Compile, analyze, and validate findings. Draft standards and communicate them to subject matter experts for review and comment, prior to final approval and publication.
* Analyze, organize, and report field audit findings to staff. Meet with staff from other divisions to collect data and information.
* Participate in and support Looped Radial and Network Standards Committee meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience: Total of 6 years of progressively responsible, difficult and highly complex electrical engineering experience in the Power Industry (or other combinations of education and/or experience which provide preparation to do professional electrical engineering work on major electrical power systems).
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
May be required to work nights, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Overnight travel may be required.
License, Certification and Other Requirements:
Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility. Professional Engineer state licensure within the United States and up to 12 months after appointment to attain State of Washington registration.
Desired Qualifications - You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:
* Knowledge of overhead and underground electrical distribution design and/or other related electrical service work
* Experience working at an electric utility with specific experience with overhead distribution design or Joint Use engineering
* Experience with current pole engineering practices and standards
* Knowledge of and experience with CADD, NESC, SCL Standards, IKE4, and SpidaCalc/Studio
* Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, property descriptions, construction schedules, contracts, and other construction documents
* Experience coaching/mentoring other employees
* Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
* Willingness to learn and accept responsibility, comply and enforce safety rules and regulations.
* Ability to work efficiently, effectively, and independently
