The base pay range for this position is $176,000- $293,300. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. Who are you?
The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated civil engineer with a strong background in successfully completing water, wastewater and / or storm water projects for local governments and private clients. You are responsible, work well with a team and communicate well with people of varying backgrounds and experiences. You are hungry to learn and grow professionally in your field.
What will you be doing?
Candidates can expect to work with utility owners, such as local governments and municipalities, in the delivery of critical water and sewer services, along with other community facilities. The person in this role can make a significant community impact by supporting our clients as they carry out their mission to efficiently own, operate, and maintain public utilities on behalf of their customers / residents. Candidates can expect to be continually challenged to independently design projects and lead a team of colleagues to develop solutions that meet our client's needs, using the right mix of advanced technology and historically successful measures, while working within the financial boundaries of the project stakeholders.
Who will you be working with?
The Project Engineer can expect cross functional collaboration across all teams and specialties, providing an opportunity to interact with The Wooten Company colleagues in both North and South Carolina. Additionally, this person will regularly work with municipal and private clients, as well as state and federal regulatory agencies. For the right person with a desire to grow professionally, this role is a good opportunity to obtain a depth and breadth of civil engineering ability and to contribute to the growing presence of Wooten in the North Carolina region.
Where will you be working?
This position is located in our Winston-Salem, NC office affectionately known as the City of Arts and Innovation. Winston-Salem is one of the three cities of the North Carolina Piedmont Triad with Greensboro and High Point completing the trio. The City is home to a unique and thriving downtown along with the historic Old Salem. Our office is located within walking distance of Old Salem a historic Moravian Community turned historic district with charming cobblestone roads and freshly made Moravian cookies. Our office is also walking distance to downtown including a variety of restaurants and the City of Winston-Salem municipal buildings. Requirements
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Strong technical skills in design of water, storm water, and wastewater utilities with cradle-to-grave competency including:
Preliminary Engineering Reports
New and Rehabilitation Designs
Project Manual Preparation including Construction Contract Documents and Technical Specifications
Coordination with other disciplines as necessary including mechanical, electrical, and structural engineers.
Project Advertisement, Bidding, and Contracting
Experience with design of water distribution systems and / or sanitary sewer collection
Familiarity with federal, state and local agency regulations, primarily concerning municipal water and wastewater projects
Good communication skills and the ability to be involved in presentations to clients / attend meetings
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
B.S. Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program
Minimum of 0-5 years of experience as a Professional Engineer (PE) in a consulting engineering environment
NC licensed Professional Engineer (or if licensed outside NC, ability to obtain NC license within one year)
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (O365) applications (Outlook, Excel, Word)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Managerial experience and / or desire to grow into a leadership role
Proficiency using AutoCAD (Civil3D) a plus
Experience with design of water distribution systems and / or sanitary sewer collection
Experience with hydraulic modeling is a plus
Familiarity with construction administration of municipal utility projects

The purpose of this position is to drive product market penetration by identifying the best engineering solutions to customers' needs. In this position, you will need in-depth understanding of the product, installation, alarms, and troubleshooting. Extensive travel may be required depending on the project for onsite surveys, commissioning, and other needs. Between projects, priority will be creating and maintaining existing technical documentation such as installation manuals, drawings, and service memos.
Key Job Responsibilities:
Onsite Support
Conduct site surveys and onsite commissioning/startup for installs
Supervise and coach contractor's field installation and commissioning
Perform diagnosis of issues, alarms, component failures, and potential software issues in HVAC systems
Provide guidance for contractors during installation and integration, such as electrical, piping, ducting, and remote monitoring integration
Lead field trials for new product introduction and provide onsite supervision and where required including software upgrade
Review project closeout package and signoff on HVAC projects for factory warranty
Respond to emergencies when required
Product Documentation and Support
Create and maintain existing documentation such as product installation manuals, drawings, service memo
Review project submittals, floorplans, shop drawings, and site-survey information
Research and suggest options on HVAC product and installation and integration methods
Conduct product introduction and training for end-users
Report field observation for engineering teams to continuous product improvement
Identify opportunities, customer requirements, and customer pain points. Use this information to develop input for future product development
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
4-year degree in Electrical/Mechanical engineering or similar
3+ years' experience with HVAC systems
Prior understanding electrical and mechanical codes is a plus
Skills:
Strength of personality and character to lead training sessions
Strong organizational skills and communication abilities
Experience working with MS OFFICE (Outlook, Excel, Word and Power Point)
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
Ability to for significant travel - up to 50%
