_Lilly is currently constructing an advanced manufacturing facility for production of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) located in Lebanon, IN. This facility is Lilly's largest investment in manufacturing capacity and is intended to provide APIs for current and future products, including new modalities. **Main Purpose and Objectives of Position:**
The Senior Director Engineering is directly responsible for managing the API Plant (either Small Molecule or Peptide) engineering function and ensuring it has the necessary capacity, capability and leadership structures in place to deliver the plant engineering deliverables in support of the manufacturing plan. The Senior Director Engineering provides administrative and technical leadership for the plant engineering function including process engineering, process control and automation, and works with the Site Central Engineering team for maintenance, utilities, plant and project engineering, and engineering competencies.
The Senior Director Engineering is a member of the Lilly Lebanon API Manufacturing Plant Lead Team. The Lead Team has collective responsibility to develop and implement the strategic direction, organizational capability and management of the plant. Primarily, the members of the team drive the plant toward achieving long term business objectives; they continuously develop the business and the organization for the future bearing in mind corporate objectives and the continuously changing external environment; and they manage issues that span multiple teams in the organization and extend into the broader corporate/external context.
In the project delivery phase and startup phase of the project, the Plant Lead Team roles will be fluid and dynamic as we endeavor to support the project delivery, build a new organization, develop and implement the necessary systems and business processes required to support GMP operations, and build the plant culture. This will require significant collaboration, creativity and resilience as the plant grows to full scale GMP manufacturing through start up.
**Key Responsibilities for this role include:**
**Pre-Startup and Startup Phase**
+ Support the safe, on time, and successful startup, process validation, and successful pre approval inspections.
+ Be a collaborative, inclusive, energetic leader and support the broader lead team.
+ Build the organization with the necessary capability, capacity and culture to operate this facility to the highest standards of safety, quality, and operational excellence.
+ Defines the Small Molecule or Peptide engineering priorities & roadmap in order to develop and implement the systems and processes needed to run the plant. This includes leveraging existing Lilly knowledge where necessary, but also incorporating external experiences and learning.
+ Serve as a key member of the Plant Lead Team, ensuring cross functional excellence throughout project delivery and startup.

+ Support the project team to deliver the facility as the end user. Providing feedback and support on design decisions, commissioning strategies, startup plan, etc. Collaborate to ensure the right decisions are made to meet project deliverables and longer term strategic goals for the site.
+ Develop and adapt organizational structure to provide correct and capable resources and management to deliver the plant to a full scale GMP manufacturing scale.
+ Ensure the systems are in place and executed to establish the initial qualified and safe state for equipment, processes, utilities and facilities
+ Build technical relationships with the relevant corporate departments and sponsors strategic corporate initiatives at a plant level.
**Post Startup**
+ Continue to define and support engineering priorities & roadmap; integrate the functional agenda with plant and site priorities.
+ Ensure the plant is in compliance with corporate standards and policies for the engineering function, including applicable environmental, safety, and quality requirements.
+ Have external focus, benchmark best practices across network and externally.
+ Ensure equipment, processes, utilities and facilities remain and operate in a qualified and safe state.
+ Work with the Site Central Engineering team to ensure that equipment maintenance and utilities operations are performed and documented to the highest standards of safety and quality, and assist with managing the plant investment processes for assets (planning, prioritization, resourcing, project management, capital accounting and reporting), the development and delivery of the capital investment plan in accordance with the plant objectives for new products, recapitalization of assets, and facility modernization.
+ Ensure that a robust control system exists to manage the business, identify compliance issues and escalate issues appropriately is established and maintained.
+ Develop the future management and technical leadership for the plant and for potential global assignments.
**Minimum Requirements:**
+ Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
+ Minimum 10 years of experience in a leadership role managing teams within the pharmaceutical industry
+ Must possess knowledge and understanding of cGMPs and how they apply to manufacturing operations.
**Additional Preferences:**

The EHRM project at VAIHCS encompasses work in 21 existing buildings, including the renovation of one building to serve as the new Data Center. Support services will cover the entire campus, including all buildings, the new Data Center, and any associated site work.
Daily Responsibilities:
The government requires a CM - Electrical Engineer (CM-EE) that will be on-site for the duration of the Electronic Health Record Modernization Construction Project. This individual will provide professional and technical consultative assistance related to operations, renovation, and new construction programs supporting EHRM. This includes assisting the Contracting Officer and the Contracting Officer's Representative in the areas of project management, project engineering, planning, scheduling, design reviews, code compliance, testing, record keeping, quality control, quality assurance, cost control, and general oversight of EHRM design and construction projects. CM - Electrical Engineer (CM-EE) shall be required to perform services including, but not limited to, the following (in no particular order)
Pre-Design/Design Phase
* Scheduling - Development of project schedule to effectively plan for and report on the status of the project.
* Planning - Services may include: Coordination with initial planning efforts; site studies; Market Analysis, site investigations; site surveys; preparation of budgets and cost estimates; preparation of preliminary schedules; cost modeling and analysis; and cost control management.
* Value Engineering Services - Services may include: Conducting/participating in value
engineering workshops and analysis of value engineering proposals.
* Market Analysis - Services may include conducting market analysis based on the size and scope of the project and provide findings of market conditions.
* Constructability and Phasing Review - Contractor will prepare a study working with the facility staff and project management to analyze the constructability of the proposed project in terms of impacts to facility operations
Construction Period Phase
* Monitoring Project Financial Data and Budgetary Cost Accounting - Services may include monitoring and review budgetary cost accounting; administration of construction contract change orders; maintaining spread sheets indicating project funds allowances, obligations, payments, balances, planned expenditures, etc., assist in the documentation of the administration of construction contract change orders (preparing cost estimates, reviewing cost proposal, preparing change order packages for the Contracting Officer).4
* Construction Phase Scheduling - Services may include preparing and maintaining daily dairies for project activities noting events affecting construction. Maintain a current project schedule, coordinate with general contractor and compare project progress against Contractor (CM) schedule and general contractor's schedule. Address all schedule slippages to the Resident Engineer and make recommendations for adjustments in the project.
* Progress Meetings- Conduct or attend weekly or bi-weekly- project meetings to review and monitor projects and project schedules review of construction contractor payment requirements (including preparation of necessary forms for payment processing by VA).
* Assisting in Issue Resolution - Keep thorough records of occurrences, contracts, and others construction related matters of the project in order to assist the VA in conflict resolution. Perform scheduling, conduct and document regular progress meetings with all interested parties to review project status, discuss problems, and resolve issues accordingly.
* Testing and Inspection Services - Monitor the services of an independent testing agency/laboratory to perform project specific quality control testing and inspection services. The services may include, but are not limited to, testing/inspection of soils, concrete, precast concrete connections, steel, steel decking, applied fireproofing, roofing, curtain walls/glazing, and elevator installations.
* Commissioning - Provide professional and technical expertise for start-up, calibration, and/or certification of a facility or operating systems within the facility. Provide any level of commissioning need from total support to specialty services. Commissioning services may require start-up planning, forecasting start-up duration, estimating start-up costs, determining start-up objectives, organizing start-up teams and team assignments, testing building system components, conducting performances tests, obtaining O&M material, plus conducting, scheduling and/or supervising O&M training.
* Performing Additional Construction Related Services - Maintaining marked up sets of project plans and specifications for future as-built drawings; performing routine inspections of construction as work proceeds, taking action to identify work that does not conform to the contract requirement, and notifying the VA and general contractor when work requires correction; compiling, thorough site inspections, lists of defects and omissions related to the work performed and providing these lists to the contractor for correction; monitoring project financial data and budgetary cost accounting; assisting in relocation efforts; administration of construction contract change orders (preparing cost estimates, reviewing cost proposal)
* Submittal Review; Request for Information Review and Responses; Daily Logs of Activity; coordination of Owner supplied equipment; Operational and Maintenance data; Closeout Submittals and other services as may be required by the VA.
Required Qualifications (Experience, Education, Certifications, Clearances, etc.):
* Hold a Bachelor of Science degree(four-year) from an accredited institution in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
* In lieu of a degree, candidates may qualify with fifteen (15) years of directly related experience in architectural, engineering, or construction management roles.
* Possess a minimum of six (6) years of experience practicing as an Architect, Engineer, or Construction Manager, including during both Design and Construction phases.
* Present three (3) relevant projects of comparable scale and complexity to the scope of this task order, in which the candidate held a similar role.
* Medical facility experience is considered advantageous.

The Work:
You'll embed directly with clients - acting as both technologist and trusted advisor. You'll partner with stakeholders to define use cases, rapidly prototype, and deploy agentic workflows that are robust, secure, and operational in complex enterprise domains. Often, these will be completely net new platforms and systems that need to be stitched together in our clients' environments alongside our Ecosystem partners.
Responsibilities:
+ Agent Architecture and Engineering: Design and engineer enterprise-ready AI agents encompassing retrieval, orchestration, policy-based routing, tool invocation, evaluation harnesses, and lifecycle observability.
+ AI Platform Integration: Develop abstraction layers across AI providers (Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, etc. ) to enable seamless integration and enablement.
+ Cloud-Native Engineering: Leverage containerization (Kubernetes, Docker), microservices, serverless, event-driven architectures, CI/CD, and observability to deliver scalable AI-native systems.
+ Domain-Specific Workflows: Tailor and deploy agentic applications across verticals - e.g., finance, healthcare, retail - addressing domain-specific processes via intelligent automation.
+ Client Engagement: Conduct design workshops, POCs, and code-with sessions to shape data-driven agent workflows with stakeholders, fostering trust and adoption.
+ Measure & Improve: Define and use key metrics, test harnesses, and evaluation plans to measure agent accuracy, latency, safety, and cost effectiveness.
+ Knowledge Sharing: Craft reusable patterns, documentation, and best practices to influence internal assets and client roadmaps.
Travel may be required for this role. The amount of travel will vary from 0 to 100% depending on business need and client requirements.
What You Need:
+ Minimum of 10 years engineering experience with cloud-native systems (APIs, microservices, containerization, serverless).
+ Minimum of 1 years of deep expertise in designing and deploying agentic solutions (agents, orchestration, context engineering, RAG, workflows) in production environments.
+ Minimum of 7 years of experience with AI platforms - OpenAI, Claude, Vertex AI, plus open-source models - including building abstraction layers to manage multi-provider pipelines.
+ Minimum of 10 years of experience programming in Python, Java, or equivalent; familiarity with evaluation tooling, logging, monitoring, and agent observability.
+ Minimum of 10 years of experience deploying to production - CI/CD, infrastructure as code (Terraform, Helm), monitoring, and debugging.
+ Minimum of 10 years of experience in client communication and collaboration, including being capable of leading technical workshops and delivering under ambiguity.
+ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent; additional AI certifications or agentic tool experience is a plus.

Lilly is currently constructing an advanced manufacturing facility for production of API molecules located in Lebanon, IN (Lilly Lebanon API). This facility is Lilly's largest investment in manufacturing capacity and is intended to provide APIs for current and future products, including new modalities. This is a unique opportunity to be a part of the startup team for a greenfield manufacturing site, and the successful candidate will help to build the processes and facility to enable a successful startup into GMP manufacturing operations.
Main Purpose and Objectives of Position:
The Sr. Principal HSE Associate/Engineer is part of the Lilly Lebanon API Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) team and provides technical leadership and expertise in the development, implementation, and maintenance of HSE programs. This role focuses primarily on Health and Safety programs but may include Environmental programs, as needed.
In the project delivery and startup phases (startup expected 2025 to 2027), the HSE roles will be fluid and dynamic as we endeavor to support the project delivery, build a new organization, develop and implement the necessary systems and business processes required to support GMP operations, and build the site culture. This will require significant collaboration, creativity, and resilience as the site grows through startup to full scale GMP manufacturing.
Post start-up, this role will continue to be the be the subject matter expert for assigned HSE programs and serve as an HSE regulatory advisor for manufacturing and support units.
Key Responsibilities for this role include:
Assist with the development of the HSE operational readiness plan for the Lilly Lebanon API facility as a collaborative, inclusive, and energetic member of the HSE team.
Lead implementation of assigned HSE operational readiness programs, such as lockout tagout, PPE, hazard communication, ergonomic hazards, confined space entry, machine guarding, working at heights, powered industrial vehicles, health and safety risk assessments, etc.
Support the project team to deliver the facility as a key stakeholder providing input and feedback on health and safety-related design decisions, construction, and startup plans while ensuring decisions meet project deliverables and compliance requirements, leveraging existing Lilly knowledge, and incorporating external experiences and learning.
Develop and roll out safety and health programs, procedures, tools, and overall HSE management systems, including training, mentoring, and onboarding of new staff to help support a strong HSE culture at the site.
Develop a partnership with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering functions to help manage change, assure safety and compliance of new systems, and assist in setting requirements to assure safe and compliant startup.
Serve as a site key contact and HSE program expert, including knowledge of applicable corporate, local, state, and federal requirements and keeping abreast of changes to requirements and site applicability.
Ensure applicable internal and external reporting is coordinated, completed, and submitted on time, including incorporating second person verification, as needed.
Be a resource to the operational areas in helping them understand the regulatory requirements of their areas and programs; work with them in implementing solutions that comply with these regulations and programs. Facilitate the implementation of the programs.
Complete internal HSE audits/assessments, lead/support incident investigations, assist with trending HSE data and compiling metrics, and support the development of long-term plans to drive program improvements.
