Senior facilities technicians work under the supervision of a facilities manager of a manufacturing site. They perform maintenance work on the equipment and the premises of the plant. They are responsible for documenting the work tasks they carry out as well and take part in scheduling the maintenance activities.

You will have to communicate with other departments about their maintenance needs and putting them on your list in order of appropriate priority. In case there is a need for specialized maintenance work, you will be the one to procure a contractor. You will supervise them on site, making sure they do the work they were contracted for while keeping the safety regulations of the plant.

You will need a maintenance qualification or a degree in mechanics or engineering to take on this role. Working experience in similar positions is always welcome, but a basic understanding of industry practices will be expected even if you are a beginner. Being proactive and independent will be appreciated, and being in a good physical condition is a must, as some of the tasks will be demanding your strength and stamina.
