Jensen Hughes has a career opening for a Senior Fire Protection Engineer/Project Manager in our Baltimore, MD, Rockville, MD or Arlington, VA offices. We are a leading fire protection consulting firm providing a range of professional services involving life safety, fire protection, security, and mass notification on commercial, institutional, and industrial projects for clients worldwide. Qualified candidates will have a minimum of ten (10) years of experience that ideally includes a combination of Code Consulting, Performance Based Design, and Fire Protection System Design. Candidates should be a registered Professional Engineer with proven project management and fire protection engineering experience.

**Responsibilities**

+ Plan and direct engineering activities for your own projects.

+ Conduct building and fire code reviews and analyses.

+ Design fire protection systems including fire alarm, sprinkler and special hazard systems.

+ Prepare and present technical reports and presentations.

IPS is hiring! We are looking for a talented Senior Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineer to join our industry leading Engineering Design team out of our Chelmsford, MA office.

The Senior Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineer works independently on various projects as assigned by a Project Manager or group leader. This individual will play a role in the entire design process including but not limited to preliminary assessments, concept creation, design, problem resolution and customer and vendor accessibility. The Senior Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineer may work on several concurrent projects and at times may assist as a technical expert on a specialized design. Some management responsibility.
Job Duties and Responsibilities

+ Assigns and reviews work of project design team. Checks progress of work and alerts Project Manager to change of scope or additional services.

+ Attends pre-bid meetings and assists the project team in evaluating commercial proposals. Assesses the requirements of a project, break a project into tasks and work with a Project Manager to determine scope of work, budget and staffing. Write scope of work for plumbing and fire protection designs based on preliminary reviews and meetings with the clients.

+ Develops design concepts; prepares documents during design development phase. Corrects and updates design documents. Develops solutions to design problems. Prepare engineering studies and schematic design for new systems and analyze operation of existing systems.

+ Uses computer aided design technologies to develop sketches, drawings and construction documents. Reviews drawings and documents to assure compliance with company design and production standards.

+ Works with equipment suppliers/vendors to obtain the necessary information needed for design completion. Interacts with clients regularly to secure scope and design intent.

+ Ensure acceptable levels of quality and checks for coordination of work to assure documents reflect design intent and necessary coordination. Coordinate all aspects of project document completion within company and externally with clients and other design professionals.

+ Coordinates design work with related engineering disciplines. Attend job and construction meetings and participate in the coordination of the work.

+ Contributes to annual performance reviews for assigned staff. Assists in the education and development of design staff and act as resource for design questions.

+ Special projects as assigned.

+ Minimum 10 years' of previous Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineering and Design experience.

+ Bachelors of Engineering Degree from an accredited University.

+ Registered Professional Engineer (PE).

+ Must have previous experience working for an Architectural and Engineering firm (A&E).

+ Must be proficient in the use of computer for design and understand CAD operations.

+ Knowledge of all aspects of plumbing and fire protection systems including Sanitary and Vent Systems, Storm Systems, Process Waste Systems, Lab and Vent Systems, Domestic Water Systems, Process and Lab Gas Systems, Sprinkler Design and Wet/Dry/Pre Action Systems. Must be able to produce calculations for the above systems.

+ Has a demonstrated ability to manage projects, problem solve, communicate effectively to all key personnel and time manage.

+ Able to travel up to 25%.

The Senior Fire Protection Engineer will lead the team in the design work on multi\-discipline projects and lead the preparation of comprehensive fire protection packages including fire suppression, fire alarm, smoke management, and life safety\. The Senior Fire Protection Engineer will lead in the evaluations for new and/or existing life safety programs, lead in the construction administration process and travel to the client sites as necessary\.

+ Lead the design, specification, and multi\-discipline coordination of the following fire protection systems: Wet\-pipe, dry\-pipe, pre\-action, deluge, and foam/water fire suppression systems\. Fire water supply infrastructure including fire water storage tanks, fire pumps, underground and aboveground distribution piping and associated appurtenances\. Outdoor fire suppression systems including monitors, spray systems, and exposure protection systems\. Addressable and non\-addressable voice evacuation fire alarm systems including initiation devices, supervision devices, and audible and visual notification appliances\. Releasing systems for pre\-action, foam/water, and clean agent systems\.

+ Evaluate and lead the creation of fire protection calculations including the hydraulic analysis of fire water supply and demand, battery calculations, and voltage drop calculations\.

+ Lead the evaluation of building and life safety requirements including building area and height limitations, building construction types, fire resistive assemblies and opening protections, occupancy classifications, hazards, building egress, and active and passive smoke management systems\.

+ Lead the construction administration including coordination with field personnel to resolve design related installation issues, the review of contractor shop drawings and calculations, field inspections, and testing of fire protection systems\.
+ Prepare and present technical and client reports and presentations\.

+ Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers and contractors and develop new business opportunities\.

+ Manage sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits\.

+ Responsible for ensuring revenue and customer satisfaction goals are met\.

**Qualifications**

+ Candidate shall have a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in fire protection engineering or related engineering discipline from an ABET accredited university\.

+ Minimum 7 years related design experience \(completion of master's degree in fire protection engineering may be substituted for one year of experience\)\.

+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong analytical and problem solving skills are required\.

+ Candidate should have advanced knowledge of appropriate design tools such as hydraulic calculation software, AutoCAD or Revit, Excel, and Word\. Position requires an experienced and competent individual capable of successfully solving challenging problems requiring adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures or criteria\.

+ Must have the ability to obtain and maintain access authorization to facilities and data of existing and potential clients, including, but not limited to DOE, aerospace, military, food and consumer product manufacturers, pharmaceutical, laboratories, and others necessary to perform work\.

+ NICET certification and experience working with military standards are strongly preferred\.

+ Professional Fire Protection Engineer \(P\.E\.\) license required\.
