Job Description

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Primary technical member of a formulation development/ technology transfer team focusing on both solid and liquid oral dosage forms for Pharmaceutical R&D at SpecGx LLC.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Lead a formulation and process development, and tech transfer for oral solid and liquid dosage products including immediate and sustained or modified release solutions, suspensions, tablets, and capsules Write and review various technical documents including protocols, batch records, product development reports, and tech transfer report. Work with R&D formulation technicians. Assist the Regulatory Affairs group in preparation of CMC documents for the submission of ANDAs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Minimum BS degree in pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical sciences, material sciences, chemical engineering, and related scientific discipline required. A PhD. degree preferred.

Experience: Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences or related discipline with a minimum of 0 - 1 year experience in the development of oral solid and liquid (for immediate and modified release) forms in the pharmaceutical industry, or a Master's degree in related area and a minimum of 3 years' related experience; or a Bachelor's degree in related area with a minimum of 6 years' related experience.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with others (including both internal teams and external collaborators).

Other Skills/Competencies:
Strong knowledge in pharmaceutical dosage products (e.g., both oral liquid and solid dosage forms) and drug delivery concepts for various administration routes Working knowledge of evaluating patents and literature prior arts.Mastery of the scientific technical concepts and techniques, applies further thoseconcepts and techniques to efficiently and effectively resolve scientific technicalissues.Ability to travel 10 - 30%Must pass a security clearance

Minimum Requirements

• Ideal candidate will possess an advanced degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science; at least 7 years of hands-on technical experience will be considered in lieu of an advanced degree.
• Management/supervisory experience leading a technical team.
• The successful candidate will have formulated solventborne /or waterborne coatings including primers, and is adept at utilizing experimental designs and statistical tools to drive decision making.
• An understanding of spraying, printing, and other coating application processes.
• Knowledge of corrosion and corrosion control in coatings is a plus.
• Capability to adapt to rapidly evolving market with loosely defined objectives.
• Excellent written & oral communication skills to internal and customer audiences.
• Project management and experience with Stage-Gate process.
• Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills.

The Senior Formulation Research Scientist will be responsible for formulation and application development in support of our growing business of liquid applied roofing, waterproofing, and coatings. The position will be based at our Arkadelphia, Arkansas R&D facility. This role will support current business needs and develop solutions for liquid applied applications. The successful candidate will be able to develop both product/formulation as well as application engineering solutions for the market. Project assignments will be challenging, complex, and demanding in nature and require an independent, productive person that can execute multiple projects in parallel.
**Position Responsibilities** **:**

The primary duties consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

+ Plan and conduct research for the development and commercialization of new technologies and product concepts that provide differentiated performance in the marketplace.

+ Establish fitness-for-use criteria for specific applications and reduce these to fundamental material characteristics using knowledge of structure-property-processing relationships.

+ Develop innovative formulation solutions that enable improved coating performance, reduced cost, and increased efficiency.

+ Develop system-based innovations, including innovating in the area of application and process equipment development.

+ Be a key contributor within cross-functional teams across R&D, Marketing, Sales, and Manufacturing to scale up quickly from the lab to commercial scale.

+ Provides technical support to Marketing, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Sales.

+ Maintain understanding and serve as a resource for internal and external customers on market-specific products, process technology, external technical community trends, and competitive intellectual property.

+ Produce timely project updates, develops presentations, and report out to internal and external stakeholders.

**Minimum Requirements/Qualifications** **:**

+ High School Diploma or GED equivalent

+ Bachelor's degree and/or 7+ years of experience in a laboratory environment (academic or industrial experience)

+ Must be a current U.S. resident and have the legal right to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship.

**Preferred Qualifications - Education, Experience, & Skills** **:**

+ Masters or Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a BS in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with 10+ years of experience in the manufacturing or formulation of coatings, paints, resins, polymers, or similar materials, or other relevant science disciplines

+ Minimum of 5 years of broad research experience in the formulation of industrial coatings

+ Strong understanding of reactive chemistries. Experience in the following areas is preferred:

+ Methyl methacrylate (MMA)-based chemistries

+ Epoxy, two-component coating, or adhesives.

+ Single or two-component Urethane.

+ Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, organizational /interpersonal skills

+ Experience with design of experiment methodologies (DOE).

+ Highly motivated and a self-starter

+ Must possess strong communication (written and verbal) skills

**Physical Requirements** **:**

+ Ability to frequently work in a stationary position for long periods of time; ability to frequently move about to accomplish tasks or to move from one work area to another

+ Visual acuity to inspect products, read documents, computer screens, and files; normal sense of color perception to perform basic color matching, weathering, reflectivity, and related testing.

+ Ability to perceive hazards and respond quickly to sounds in a manufacturing plant, lab environment, and on jobsites; ability to quickly converse/convey information by phone and in-person

+ Ability to position self to bend, pull, and reach in front, overhead, and below shoulder level to perform product testing and lab functions; ability to position self to move safely over even/ uneven surfaces

+ Manual dexterity to operate office, lab, and roof application equipment to perform duties such as data entry, product inspections, and other position-related functions

+ Ability to work with heights; ascend/descend ladders and stairs

+ Ability to work in outdoor conditions including high/low temperatures, dust, humidity, etc.

+ Ability to wear and work in PPE

+ Ability to lift up to 35 lbs. frequently (equipment, materials, etc.),up to 50 lbs. occasionally (roofing products, etc.)
