Under direct supervision of a Qualified Sr. Radiation Protection Technician. Performs ANSI Jr. Radiation Protection Technician job functions as assigned by management. Typical job responsibilities assist and support management in ensuring that all Radiation Safety duties are conducted in a manner that is safe, cost effective and fully compliant with VNSFS procedures and all contractual, statutory, and regulatory requirements. This position is part of the Radiological Protection Team and is responsible for developing and implementing the radiation protection program in support of the project mission. The specific work assignment may include duties or activities that assist and support management in one or more of the following functional areas, in addition to other duties as assigned:
Responsibilities
• Oversee and coordinate implementation of radiation protection programs to include external and internal dosimetry; counting room operations; radioactive effluents management and environmental monitoring; contamination control, housekeeping and decontamination; radiation work permits and radiological surveys; respiratory protection; fixed, portable and laboratory radiation protection instrumentation calibration; radiation protection for job coverage; radioactive material accountability; ALARA and exposure control; etc.
• Provide personnel and coordinate work requirements in the Radiological Controlled Area (RCA) with the Operations, Engineering, and Waste Packaging processes “In Accordance With” (IAW) the Radiation Protection Plan.
• Perform all work task IAW VNSFS procedures and policies to ensure compliance with the radiation and Quality Assurance Plans.
• Performs walkdowns of the project areas to verify radiation protection program implementation and ensure compliance of the program.
• Participates in and fosters a work environment based upon openness, trust, communication,
teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
• Ensure all personnel needed to perform project tasks are trained and qualified commensurate with assigned duties and responsibilities.
• Ensure project personnel are trained on radiation safety topics commensurate with assigned
duties and responsibilities.
• Ensure occupational safety hazards and hazard controls are properly addressed in the design or modification of new facilities or processes (with emphasis on hazard elimination).
• Ensure radiation hazards and hazard controls are identified during work planning and development of hazard analyses/controls for each task.
• Ensure radiation safety equipment, tools, and materials necessary for task execution are
available, calibrated and tested.
• Ensure personnel participate in a readiness demonstration prior to performing a task.
• Ensure work area inspections are performed prior to the start of work and periodically through execution.
• If exposure monitoring is conducted, ensure personnel are informed of the results.
• Ensure radiation safety records are generated and retained in accordance with the radiation
protection plan.
• Ensure program performance issues are identified, corrected, and communicated.
Accountabilities:
• Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during their “core”
work hours. Overtime may be required as job demands.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a field project environment. This role routinely uses standard office
equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. As well as the use of RAD Safety instrumentation to perform the task required.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. Qualifications
Education & Certifications:
• A college degree from an accredited school in health physics, engineering, science, or related field and/or a combination of equivalent education, training, and work experience.
• Completion of training, examinations, and Radiological Fundamentals and Standard Task
Evaluations for DOE Core and/or the ANSI Jr. Radiation Protection Technicians.
• Must be able to pass Radiation Worker Training (Radiological Worker 1 or 2) and 40-hour HAZWOPER
training and up to date 8-Hour HAZWOPER Refresher training.
Experience & Requirements:
• A minimum of 6 months of experience preforming rad safety, safety, and occupational health work (e.g., as a radiation worker) at hazardous, toxic, and radioactive waste sites, facility demolition and deconstruction projects, or other projects with similar hazards.
• Demonstrated completion of specialty training including, but not limited to:
• Radiation safety instrumentation
• Air monitoring (occupational and effluent)
• Shielding
• Internal and external dosimetry
• Respiratory protection

• Prior experience preferred in performing rad safety, safety, and occupational health work at
hazardous, toxic, and radioactive waste sites, facility demolition and deconstruction projects, or other projects with similar hazards.

This position will conduct cathodic protection surveys, corrosion control services and corrosion inspections to ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements for gas pipelines and facilities. This is full time work in Richmond, Virginia. 10% out-of-state travel is possible. You will report from home to the jobsite in Richmond, VA.
What will you be doing?
This position will be a key member of the Cathodic Protection/Corrosion team. Duties include:
Perform regulatory-driven cathodic protection surveys and maintenance to ensure compliance and prevention program effectiveness.
Test and troubleshoot cathodic protection system and equipment to ensure effective operation.
Tests, inspects, and maintains rectifiers, test stations, and coupons.
Assist with interference testing
Assist with Close Interval Surveys (CIS)
Perform minor field repairs
Assist with cathodic protection system installations
Assist the atmospheric corrosion inspection and maintenance program to maintain equipment integrity and ensure compliance.
Utilize Pipeline Compliance System (PCS) software to record, monitor, and evaluate cathodic protection and atmospheric corrosion data to ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
What skills will the ideal candidate have to be successful?
This position will require the following skillsets and experience:
Certification, diploma or degree in corrosion technology or related field.
2 or more years of related experience with cathodic protection systems.
AMPP/NACE certified Cathodic Protection Tester (CP Level 1 Certification) or higher or Equivalent Certification.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Self-motivated, independent, innovative, responsible and a phenomenal teammate with a strong work ethic and initiative.
Role requires a valid driver's license, which will be verified with a motor vehicle check prior to hire.
Familiarity with CFR 49, Parts 192, 193 and 195 is preferred.
Physical Requirements include but are not limited to:
Grasping, kneeling, lifting (objects up to 100 pounds), bending, stooping, climbing, crawling, pulling hand over hand, reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.
