Pros of working at Senior Helpers

The two clients I had so far were pleasant and easy to communicate their needs.

Cons of working at Senior Helpers

Without their HR Manager they are disorganized and lack communication and preparation.

Senior Helpers benefits

It is possible to work part-time that works around my child’s school and appointments schedules.

What do you like best about Senior Helpers's CEO and the leadership team?

The owner and her HR manager are mothers, so they are accepting mothers on their workforce and not trying to make you sign paperwork upfront that you have to push one to skip breaks. They listened to my criticism about how unlikely they are to find a single person who can lift 300 pound person alone, that for such a heavy disabled person they should have two, have special training for bedridden patients and ask insurance for a mechanical lift to make lying to sitting transition easier and safer.

How would you improve Senior Helpers's culture?

It would be better to get masks and gloves before the first assignment because we work so closely with the clients to help them dress, change adult diapers, change bed linens, cook and clean, which is a lot more than one is led to believe you will just be sitting and chatting with a senior citizen or disabled person. I like helping people, so I don’t mind, but the pay is only $18 per hour for what could be very heavy lifting such as a 300 pound disabled person by oneself, which I told leadership is not ethical for the client or the helpers because if there was a fire or other emergency, and only one helper, most people wouldn’t be able to dead lift 300 pounds, to evacuate the client to safety. I advocated for that client to request to have 2 helpers paid and mechanical assistance such as lifts.

How did you prepare for the Senior Helpers interview?

Read the materials online and watched videos of how to help common needs for senior citizen and persons with disabilities.

How does your compensation at Senior Helpers compare to the industry average?
