Under general direction, responsible for the technical design, planning, implementation, performance tuning and recovery procedures for mission critical enterprise systems. Serve as a technical expert in the area of system administration and engineering for RedHat Linux, NetApp NAS, AWS, Backup / Restore and Monitoring / Alerting.
The essential responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:


Manages and maintains optimum platform infrastructure performance, reliability, and security in relation to RedHat Linux, NetApp NAS systems, and Cloud related technologies. Implements services to automate monitoring activities and provide critical information to facilitate response and resolution of performance issues and incidents. Troubleshoots and analyzes system disruptions to determine the root cause of issues and develop solutions for improved reliability. Reviews new technologies against business requirements to identify opportunities for process, performance and reliability improvements to reduce cost or simplify. Apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Respond positively to direction and feedback on performance. Work productively and harmoniously with others on a consistent basis. Perform other duties as assigned.



Education, Skills, and Requirements



Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of training/experience required 10+ Years Advanced knowledge of Linux operating systems, systems design, documentation, implementation, monitoring and support in an enterprise environment with more than 150 servers typically gained by 10 years of progressively responsible experience working in IT as a Unix / Linux engineer or administrator. required Strong knowledge of Enterprise SAN/NAS support, design and implementation typically gained by 10 years of progressively experience. required Strong knowledge of networking, distributed computing environment concepts, understand the principles of routing, the design of consistent network-wide filesystem layouts typically gained by 10 years of progressively responsible experience required Strong knowledge of networking, distributed computing environment concepts, understand the principles of routing, the design of consistent network-wide filesystem layouts typically gained by 10 years of progressively responsible experience required Strong knowledge in scripting, automation and configuration management utilizing Python, bash, Puppet, Chef or similar typically gained by 10 years of progressively responsible experience. required Linux certifications preferred Linux certifications preferred

BAE Systems is offering an exciting opportunity to support an important and dynamic Department of Justice customer as a Senior Linux Engineer supporting a highly capable and diverse team driving technical innovation.
The Senior Linux Engineer
Coordinates with the PM to ensure problem solution and user satisfaction. Makes recommendations, if needed, for approval of major systems installations. Prepares milestone status reports and presentations on the system concept to colleagues, subordinates, and end user representatives. May perform daily supervision and provide direction to support staff. The successful candidate should be an experienced system engineer and administrator to provide Linux engineering, software integration, and administration in the context of an automated cloud provisioning environment. The Linux baseline is a tightly secured configuration which has been engineered into an accredited and supportable platform. This position shall be as a member of the customers network engineering team and shall be responsible for refining and incorporating new software on top of the baseline. Multiple priority projects shall be assigned, and the engineer must be able to recommend, implement, and defend decisions that maintain the enterprise baseline in support of the component's stated desire to support standardization at the IT infrastructure layer and the current customer's focus on automated operations. The Senior Linux Engineer will:
Possess excellent analytical and technical writing skills; and Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.



Required Skills and Education

Minimum Education and Overall Experience:


Minimum Education: Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree or Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) Degree in a technical or engineering, or in lieu of education, five (5) years of additional related experience.

Minimum/General Experience:
Must have ten (10) or more years of technical experience analyzing and designing computer systems.

Experience working on multiple OS platforms, including Linux, Mac, Windows, Android, and iOS; Familiarity with different layers of the technology stack, including network, application frameworks, database systems, and vendor solutions.
