This is a remote position based anywhere in the US.
Vantage is looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to be part of the design engineering team, steering innovative design and engineering solution for our data center projects. In this role, as a subject matter expert, you will be focusing on program improvement initiative as well as supporting the deployment of new data center from land acquisition to Operation hand-off. These functions collaborate closely with construction, automation, innovation, and engineering to fully deliver large-scale data centers. As an engineering leader, you will also work closely with other company stakeholders, such as sales, equipment procurement, new site development, and leadership.
You will be presented with complex engineering challenges and will work with teams to bring them to resolution. You will ensure engineering standards are developed, executed, and enhanced for projects. You will evaluate design to meet customer requirements while providing a balance of CAPEX and OPEX costs, engineering innovation, and site application requirements. The Mechanical Systems Engineer II is responsible for translating sales concepts into detailed, project-specific system and equipment designs. This role collaborates with the Senior Project Engineer and cross-functional teams to deliver project requirements on schedule and within budget.
Your role in our team
* You will convert conceptual solutions into detailed system designs that meet system and end-user requirements
* You will integrate material handling technologies and equipment into functional, cost-effective system solutions, ensuring compatibility with warehouse and building structures
* You will develop system layouts and detailed drawing packages to support equipment installation planning, coordination, and execution
* You will collaborate with electrical, controls, and installation engineering teams-as well as external stakeholders-to ensure design functionality, resolve conflicts, and maintain alignment with project objectives
* You will coordinate and lead design review meetings, maintaining design engineering timelines in accordance with project schedules and budgets
* You will monitor system design costs and support level-of-effort estimating for scope changes throughout the project lifecycle
* You will identify, communicate, and help mitigate design, delivery, and functionality risks with project management
* You will maintain knowledge of material handling technologies within the Körber product portfolio and broader warehouse automation industry
* You will prepare equipment order requests, recommended spare parts lists, and related documentation in compliance with departmental processes
Your profile
* You have obtained a bachelor's degree in mechanical or industrial engineering and have gained 5 years of project-based engineering experience in the warehouse and automation industry
* A minimum of 8 years of directly related experience in lieu of a degree
* You have experience designing large-scale warehouse and automation systems (>$10M investments) incorporating palletizing/depalletizing, unit load and pallet storage/retrieval, and pallet conveyance technologies.
* You are proficient in developing system layouts, installation drawings, and material flow/rate diagrams using AutoCAD or similar CAD software
* Ability to integrate multiple material handling technologies and accurately define and size individual equipment requirements within overall system designs
* You have experience collaborating with project management, cross-functional engineering disciplines, and site installation teams
* You have strong written and verbal communication skills for effective coordination across internal and external stakeholders
* You know of project budgeting and scheduling processes
* You can travel approximately 20% to project sites throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico
