SENIOR OFFICER, FOUNDATION RELATIONS, Resource Development (2 openings), to coordinate and direct activities to ensure regular and increased support from selected independent and family foundations with the potential for making gifts to MIT of $10M+. Will be responsible for all interactions, strategy development, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for a designated portfolio of foundations; collaborate on developing strategy and coordinating and executing fundraising plans for specific foundations; work with senior administrators to develop and implement targeted strategies for selected projects in need of support from private foundations; liaise with specific MIT initiatives/schools/programs and facilitate their connection to foundation partners; and participate in the development and implementation of the overall foundation relations program.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor's degree; five years' fundraising experience, preferably with independent foundations and in an academic setting; familiarity with philanthropic trends related to foundations and basic processes of foundation funding and gift/grant acceptance; experience setting and implementing strategy, including goals and priorities; excellent organizational, analytical, project management, problem-solving, presentation, influencing, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills; sound judgment with confidential information; meticulous attention to detail, accuracy, work quality, and time sensitivity; and proficiency with standard PC applications (e.g., Word, Excel, FileMaker, PowerPoint). Must be able to digest and effectively communicate scientific/technical content to lay audiences; manage several projects in a complex, fast-paced environment; remain calm under pressure; work independently and collaboratively; and engage, build relationships, and collaborate with senior leaders, faculty, colleagues, alumni, and donors. PREFERRED: master's/advanced degree; knowledge of Advance and web presentation software, e.g. Zoom and WebEx; and experience working in an academic setting, with private foundations/philanthropic organizations, and/or federal sources of support. Responsible for developing and implementing the on-going identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship/recognition of individual prospects/donors. Works closely with other development staff, other CH employees, physicians, and volunteers in this process. Responsible for keeping accurate information on individual donors and prospects and keeping other staff and volunteers informed of their progress and activities.
Major Accountabilities/Job Competencies


Develops relationships with donors and prospects; discovering their interest in CH and helping them achieve their philanthropic goals with involvement in, and support of, CH. Performs regular planned contact, including personal meetings, written correspondence, and Zoom and telephone contact.

Develops, with other development staff, a system of monitoring and recording/tracking the contacts and the progress being made with assigned donors/prospects.

Researches, as needed, information that will assist with helping donors meet their philanthropic goals. This would include contacting and building relationships with clinical leaders, physicians, and other stakeholders.

Prepares written thank you letters, briefings, summaries, reports, and proposals.

Oversees, in close cooperation with the Manager of Prospect Research, the identification of individual prospects, evaluating gift capacity, proposal writing and presentation of solicitations, and managing of stewardship activities for assigned individuals.

Assists various staff leadership and volunteers to develop their own strategies for maximizing relationships with prospects/donors. Prepares correspondence, etc. for these key staff and volunteers.

Represents CH to its institutional supporters and serves as a key resource in conceptualizing and implementing strategies and plans for donor recognition and identification of naming opportunities - when appropriate - associated with the needs of CH.

Personally solicits contributions and/or facilitates volunteer leaders.


Qualifications


Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred.

Familiarity with Raiser's Edge software preferred.

5 years progressively responsible fund raising experience in higher education, healthcare, or a not-for-profit organization or business related sales/marketing activity. Familiarity with individual donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship; working with volunteers; event planning and management. Capital campaign and/or planned giving experience preferred.
