Compounds and dispenses medications and pharmaceutical supplies upon receiving written orders from physicians. Position supports all patients who wish to utilize the services of the new location. Position supports and provides assistance with the documentation, filling of prescriptions, financial assistance with acquisition of medications, billing and dispensing of the medications to all patients including delivery to patient. The starting pay for this position was recently adjusted. The minimum hourly rate for this position will now be $18.50/hour. All pay rates will be based on candidate's experience.

One year of previous work experience (in a related field). Prefer previous pharmacy tech experience or work/classes in medical field. Hired candidate must maintain state licensure in good standing. Prefer one year of full-time (or pro-rated) pharmacy technician experience and must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).

Department Profile

The Pharmacy Department provides services to patients cared for at Tampa General Hospital and Tampa General Medical Group. Services provided include clinical and distributive services to in-house patients, outpatient and specialty prescriptions, infusion center, and ambulatory clinical services. The department is composed of approximately 300 team members, including pharmacists, technicians, and support staff. Pharmacy team members have backgrounds that represent a diverse mix of experiences, training, and certifications in multiple areas of pharmacy. The Department of Pharmacy offers accredited residency training programs, is affiliated with pharmacy schools in the State of Florida, and technical training programs within the Tampa Bay area.

Job Summary

Under direct supervision of a Registered Pharmacist, and following established policies and procedures, assist in the various activities of a pharmacy technician including the following; acting as a subject matter expert for prescription processing, claims adjudication, telephone support, and dispensing of medications and supplies. Other responsibilities of the senior technician include, assisting coordinators and supervisors with workflow management to ensure prescriptions are moving through the stages in a timely manner, and assist with documentation and maintenance of quality assurance measures. Additional responsibilities include data entry, benefit verification, and Delivering prescriptions at bedside for transplant patients as well as any other specialty medication once patients are being discharged from the hospital. Responsible for performing assigned duties in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Tampa General Hospital.

Qualifications High school diploma or GED required
Must have State of Florida registration as a Pharmacy Technician National Certification (PTCB)
Minimum 2 years of experience as a registered Pharmacy Technician
