The Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE, ********************** at the University of Rochester is seeking a Ph.D.-level individual in Optics, Physics, or Engineering to join the Laser System Science team. LLE is a unique national resource featuring the Omega laser facility, a premier high-energy laser user facility conducting experiments in Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF), High Energy Density Physics (HEDP) and basic science. The Omega facility is home to the OMEGA and OMEGA EP lasers. OMEGA is a 60-beam solid-state laser system capable of delivering 30-kJ, nanosecond UV pulses to a target for fusion experiments. Omega EP is a short-pulse laser system capable of delivering pulses of up to 1-PW power (700J in 700fs). LLE is also developing novel high-energy laser systems, including ultrabroadband and ultra-intense lasers. Qualifications The Position: We are seeking a contract position as a Research & Development Technologist/Scientist to work in a team environment working on developing a new assay for our VITROS analyzer systems. You will perform various assignments related to the performance testing of the assay on the VITROS analyzer systems in the laboratory in accordance with cGMP regulations. This position may also include the preparation of complex biological solutions using established protocols, including reconstitution of calibrators and controls. These protocols may include weighing chemicals, volumetric additions of various biological components, pipetting, filtration, ultra-filtration, etc. • A minimum of an Associate degree in Chemistry/Biology or related sciences field is required. A Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry/Biology, Medical Technology or related sciences field is preferred. • A minimum of 1 year experience in a lab environment is required. This requires safe driving including frequent trailer use hauling loads in excess of 10,000 lbs; pre-trip inspections and use of log books. * Plays a vital role in trial preparation including seed processing, packaging, shipping, protocol review, trial placement, and mapping/field design. * Maintain field trial sites as week, insect, and disease free; * Having a confident ability in identifying key weeds, insect, and disease problems is critical, as is timely and accurate implementation of control measures; * With the use of handheld electronic equipment and Monsanto proprietary software, collect notes on various agronomic traits (e.g. emergence uniformity, flowering date, lodging, height, maturity, shattering resistance) in a timely manner throughout the growing season; * Harvest plots and collect samples for quality and statistical analysis; ensure harvest data is evaluated and relinquished in accordance with crop advancement deadlines to aid in product advancement decisions; * Develop, maintain, and implement the use of controlled SOP documents, QMS procedures, and investigative protocols; * Comply with all Monsanto regulatory compliance guidelines for Confined Release and Stewarded Trial material; * Collaborate with other Agronomic Research Specialists, Site Leads, and Principal Investigators in order to facilitate efficient trial planning and placement; * Sharing of ideas and techniques and quick response to issues that may arise (e.g. weather or pests affecting trials); * Works closely with Plant Breeders, Principal Investigators, and Agronomic Research Specialist to filly understand the multiple stages of crop development and the importance of each step involved and share experiences cross-functionally as needed; * Field selection, cooperator relations, and ability to learn research equipment operations and basic maintenance (all types), field maintenance, and data collection; * Basic Agronomic knowledge/Crop Management knowledge; * Technical savvy and ability to adhere to compliance and safety policies; * Utilization of IT tools, time management, prioritization skills; * Must be self motivated with good decision-making abilities; * Accountable for business unit or project results through leadership and coordination across site strategy; * Ability to prioritize and monitor projects to ensure completion within deadlines and budgets; * Build partnerships and share technical knowledge across sites; * Stay involved in industry working groups. **OPAL Experimental Platform Development Lead** The OPAL Experimental Platform Development Lead will play a pivotal role in shaping experiments on state-of-the-art laser systems at the University of Rochester, including the existing MTW-OPAL laser and the NSF OPAL user facility currently in its planning stage. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in multidisciplinary teams comprised of experimental and laser scientists, engineers, and operations staff to plan and execute experiments on MTW-OPAL, a midscale laser system. The successful candidate will also contribute directly to the design of a user-focused, next-generation NSF OPAL facility that will enable groundbreaking discoveries in a range of scientific disciplines. The hands-on MTW-OPAL role will inform the NSF OPAL design role that could ultimately lead to a leadership position in a future construction project. Both roles will require strong leadership to provide a vital link between the science and engineering team members needed to understand and translate complex experimental needs into practical, robust experimental platform designs integrating laser, experimental diagnostic, and target systems.
