Compensation and Benefits Salary Range $145,000.00 - $175,000.00 USD Pay is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.     The Institute of Emerging Technology at Pittsburg State University is searching for multiple Research Scientist with the following specialized areas: Semiconductors/Electroactive Materials: The primary function of the Research Scientist is to participate in the research projects of the division, including but not limited to the synthesis of semiconducting materials, electroactive materials, 2D nanomaterials, and morphologically controlled semiconducting materials. Duties include processing and application of electroactive materials and semiconductors; performing all the synthesis, testing, and characterizations of the prepared samples; writing reports/manuscripts based on results; and writing proposals for external funding. The research scientist should be able to teach BS and MS-level relevant courses as per need. Organic Chemistry: The research scientist will participate in the research projects currently going on in this division, including but not limited to the synthesis of new organic materials, monomers, macromolecules, and polymers for various applications. The candidate should be performing all the synthesis, testing, and characterizations of the prepared samples. Candidates should write reports/manuscripts based on the results and contribute towards proposal writing for external funding. The research scientist should be able to teach BS and MS-level relevant courses as per need. Plastics/Polymers Recycling: The research scientist will participate in the research projects currently going on in this division, including but not limited to the mechanical/chemical/bio recycling of polymers and plastics, testing and remanufacturing of recycled materials, and their value-added applications. The candidate should write reports/manuscripts based on the results and contribute towards proposal writing for external funding. The research scientist should be able to teach BS and MS-level relevant courses as per need. Polymer Science: The research scientist will participate in the research projects currently going on in this division, including but not limited to the synthesis of new organic materials, monomers, and polymers for various applications. The candidate should be performing all the synthesis, testing, and characterizations of the prepared samples. Candidates should write reports/manuscripts based on the results and contribute towards proposal writing for external funding. Duties and Responsibilities 55% - Research and Development Perform research: design, and execute experiments by preparing samples, synthesize and characterization of new materials for various applications. Collect data, perform analyses, and prepare comprehensive reports. Ensure the upkeep of specific laboratory equipment, create standard operating procedures, and maintain meticulous records. Teach one or two classes per semester as per need. Supervise, mentor, write and review technical results, and evaluate activities of students and junior researchers. Prepare written internal and external reports and presentations of technical results to internal and external constituents. Work with Associate Vice President of Research in supervising one or more technicians, undergraduate and graduate students, and other researchers working in the division. 35% - Business and Technical Management Plan, obtain, and manage new projects from external funding sources (including federal, state, and regional funding entities and industrial partners) for the development of new materials specialized in their discipline, new products, etc. by writing proposals, reports, publications, and patents. Coordinate and collaborate with external constituents in the practice of technology development for licensing and commercialization in consultation with the supervisor. Report technical results to the supervisor and to colleagues through written and oral reports. Conduct literature search and plan new fundable research based on division/university objectives. Communicate research to internal and external constituents through oral and written publications, presentations, patents, and other communications. Communicate with the scientific communities and current and potential industrial partners as needed. Manage booths at conferences and trade shows, participate in recruitment events, serve on committees, etc. 10% - Other duties as assigned Education and Experience Required Education and Experience at Hire - Required Education and Experience at Hire - Ph.D. in specialized area or related discipline 1 year experience in design of new synthesis, characterization, analyses, and writing reports/manuscripts 1 year experience in the specified research area Experience in making presentations and being published in peer reviews.
