Job Description:
To support the research and development of next generation fuel cell technologies, our client is currently seeking a highly motivated candidate to fill a position as a Fuel Cell Research Scientist.
This position is currently in one year renewal basis with anticipation of 3+ years of research opportunity.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate should have direct knowledge and experience in synthesizing electrocatalysts and fabricating MEAs/CCMs for fuel cells or PEM water electrolyzer.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Design and synthesize nano-sized PGM ORR catalysts for low-temperature fuel cells.
Conduct half-cell measurements using Rotating Disk Electrode (RDE) and full-cell testing using Membrane Electrode Assemblies (MEAs)
Perform Accelerated Stress Tests (AST) to evaluate durability, including catalyst dissolution and carbon support corrosion
Support related projects, involving water electrolysis projects, as needed.
Prepare and evaluate technical plans, reports, presentations, and proposals to support project success

Qualifications:
Ph.D. or equivalent in in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with 4 years or more of related experience
Solid knowledge on electrocatalyst synthesis, MEA fabrication and testing for fuel cells and/or water electrolyzer
Hands-on experience on synthesis and characterization of non-PGM catalysts and/or OER catalysts is preferred

Key Responsibilities
Lead product development across a range of client-facing projects, applying structured design of experiments (DoE) from benchtop through scale-up.

Fundamental Symmetries ScientistMichigan State University operates FRIB as a user facility for the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science (DOE-SC), supporting the mission of the DOE-SC Office of Nuclear Physics.
As one of 28 DOE-SC user facilities, FRIB provides researchers with one of the most advanced tools of modern science to study rare isotopes, or short-lived nuclei not normally found on Earth. FRIB hosts what is designed to be the most powerful heavy-ion accelerator, enabling scientists to make discoveries about the properties of rare isotopes, nuclear astrophysics, fundamental interactions, and applications for society, including in medicine, homeland security, and industry.

The major responsibilities of the position include the following:
Prepare the fundamental symmetries experiments at the Laboratory
Communicate and implement requirements for the fundamental symmetries experiments
Verify experiments are within the specifications of the Laboratory
Assist experimenters with the design, set-up, and carry out of the experiment
Advise the experimenters as they prepare for experiments at the Laboratory
Analyze their experiments
Verify experiments run according to the approved plan, document experiences, and identify possible improvements
Perform research and development projects to enhance the performance of fundamental symmetries experiments by
Developing ion and neutral atom traps
Developing cold atomic/molecular beam sources and
Performing atomic/molecular spectroscopy
Mentor and supervise a diverse group of students within an inclusive and equitable environment
Perform scientific research related to fundamental symmetries using rare isotopes
Publish results in scientific journals and make presentations at seminars and professional meetings
Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of fundamental symmetries
General knowledge of experimental setups and procedures in a laboratory environment
Familiarity with safety protocols and regulations in a laboratory environment
Knowledge of ion and neutral atom traps, cold atomic/molecular beam sources, and atomic molecular spectroscopy techniques
Ability to implement and enforce laboratory standards and protocols
Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to troubleshoot experimental issues
Knowledge and ability to program in C, python, Matlab, or equivalent
Excellent communication skills to communicate effectively and credibly verbally and in writing with all audiences.
Excellent project management and organizational skills

Doctorate -Physics or Chemistry
Minimum Requirements
PhD in physics or chemistry in the area of experimental atomic, molecular, optical physics or nuclear science
At least two years of postdoctoral experience by September 2024
At least three years of experience in the experimental fields of fundamental symmetries, precision measurements, and/or atomic/molecular/optical physics by September 2024
Demonstrated experience working with multi-institution collaborations
