We are currently recruiting for a Sr Process Control and Instrumentation Engineer to join our America team.

The GEMTE Americas Process Controls Engineering team provides engineering and commissioning support for new Cryogenic Air Separation Plants and Process Gases (Hydrogen, Carbon Monoxide, Helium Liquefaction, Nitrogen and Helium rejection units). The Engineering Team serves a diverse market including petrochemical, steel, gasification and electronics. We are a regional team who work closely with colleagues in our United Kingdom, India, and China engineering offices. We also provide support to the Americas Operations team and after sales support in upgrading/modifying, revalidation and maintaining existing plant assets.

As a Sr Process Control and Instrumentation Engineer, you will:

* Develop process controls execution strategies in conjunction with overall project development team (both locally and with remote engineering centers)
* Participation in P&ID development and Operability and Hazard Reviews
* Author, check or approve specifications of process control equipment including control valves, relief valves, flow measurement devices, process instrumentation, analytical systems, and DCS, PLC, and SCADA systems
* Identify and manage process controls technical risk items
* Manage a detailed design controls team (instruments and control systems), which can include a local in-house design team, remote in-house design team, or an outside engineering EPC or design firm.
* Review SIL assessments and author SIL verifications
* Participate in Control System Design reviews
* Responsible for Cyber Security aspects of their scope of supply.
* Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing of Process Automation equipment (DCS, Analyzers, PDC)
* Production and maintenance of instrument summaries
* Participate in plant commissioning, validations, and startups.
* Manage deliverables and report to project management about progress.
* May participate in preparing cost estimates for valves, instrumentation, analytical equipment, DCS equipment, SIS equipment and labor

As a Sr Process Control and Instrumentation Engineer, you will have:

* A bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering with at least 15 years of applicable work experience
* Able to demonstrate a deep understanding of the design and implementation of control and instrumentation systems for process plants
* Experience developing BPCS / SIS architectures, control applications, and hardware specifications using Siemens PCS7.
* Additional experience with other controls platforms is a plus
* Must be able to demonstrate technical competence, leadership skills, communicate effectively
* Instrumentation specification authoring in Smart-Plant Instrumentation toolset
* Must be able to lead and direct the work of junior engineers assigned to projects
* Must be a strong team player with a willingness to accept responsibility
* Have good problem-solving abilities, be ambitious, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills enabling you to work well within a multi-disciplinary design team located in multiple geographies and to liaise directly with suppliers and clients
* Travel is required, both domestic and international
* Travel will include trips to plant sites, equipment fabricators, outside engineering firms, and customer locations (estimated at 30%)
* Relevant practical site commissioning experience while not essential would be of benefit

Within BR&T's Mission System Technologies (MST) organization, Boeing's Advanced Computing Technology (ACT) team performs innovation, development and maturation of Advanced Computing and it's associated subordinate technologies.

As a **Senior Process Controls Engineer** , you will be part of an amazing, collaborative team working on proprietary programs. As a highly productive, talented, self-motivated, and creative member of Boeing Research and Technology, you will work with multiple engineering and support groups, on both ongoing operational efforts and exciting future projects.

This exciting position requires demonstrated experience in control system development and industrial process control systems with Programmable Logic Controllers, a diverse background of project experience, and the clear exhibition of superior judgment and decision making to engineer new solutions and support existing capabilities. Demonstrated critical thinking and troubleshooting skills are required.

Responsible for developing and maintaining process control systems and programming necessary for the operation of equipment and machinery used in the processing of chemicals and noble gases; including documenting, developing, implementing and sustaining equipment and machines for the production, review and approval/comment for supplier developed control system products, validation and inspection of the end product. This position works under minimal supervision and may provide mentoring, supervision and training to others **.**
**This position will sit out of El Segundo, California.**

**Primary Responsibilities:**

+ Control System design based on operating objectives and stakeholder requirements

+ Software requirements and functional flow chart development derived from Control System design

+ Control system software development in a Siemens environment (Siamatic PLC )

+ Plan, develop & maintain new and existing applications

+ Perform software lifecycle management, including requirements analysis, detailed design, coding, unit/integration testing, maintenance, and user support (including documentation/training)

+ Troubleshoot and resolve various software and control system issues reported by end users,

+ Plan, develop, select, tailor and deploy software processes, tools and metrics

+ Coach and mentor less experienced department personnel to develop their skills and abilities.

+ Provide guidance, leadership, mentoring and training for technicians

**This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.**

**This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)**

**Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):**

+ Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

+ Experience with industrial control systems including programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and instrumentation.

**Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):**

+ Understanding of PID controller design and operating principals

+ Ability to read and understand process documentation including Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, functional flow schematics, and control logic descriptions.

+ Ability to develop machine programs and documentation using machine programming languages. This includes programming PLCs, and control system tuning

+ Ability to clearly communicate and document programs and functional flows such that it is understandable by peers and can be used in debug and trouble shooting.

+ Ability to integrate multiple pieces of equipment or stations into a system

+ Experience with valve, pump and compressor control principals and systems

+ BS in Automation, Electrical, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering or other related engineering discipline desired

+ 5+ years of experience in the following areas: programming (e.g., C++, Siemens TIA Portal,Siemens SCL, Siemens Graph ,Siemens WINCC SCADA, Java, XML, C#, IEC 61131-3), operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux)

+ 5+ years of applicable experience in the design, development, operation and maintenance of process equipment control systems with PLCs.

+ Ability to implement and troubleshoot industrial communication networks including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Profibus, DeviceNet, RS-232/422/485

+ 1+ years of experience with relational databases (e.g., Oracle, Access, MS SQL) and database management tasks, including, but not limited to schema design/implementation, scripting (e.g., PL/SQL, stored procedures) and schema-level troubleshooting

+ Successfully adjudicated Tier 5 (T5) (formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI)) United States security clearance investigation and have had an active Top Secret clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information access within the last 24 months.

+ Successfully adjudicated polygraph within the last five (5) years

**Typical Education/Experience:** Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Assure Process Control Systems and Performance Integrity

+ Maintain integrity and performance of systems, process controls, plant historian and networks.

+ Respond to calls for control system hardware malfunctions and repair those malfunctions, including control system processors, control system i/o sub systems and Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems.

+ Respond to calls for control system software problems and repair those problems including loop configuration, graphics configuration, and timing issues.

+ Respond to calls for network infrastructure problems and repair those problems, including problems with switches, fiber optic converters, cabling and power distribution.

+ Proactively monitor network performance and alleviate if bandwidth or network loading issues are found.

+ Replace operator stations, servers, monitors or other hardware that fails.

+ Maintain adequate processor loading and slippage.\

+ Tune loops.

+ Add and modify data history collection parameters to optimize information available vs space requirements.

+ Plan and implement timely upgrades and maintenance.

+ Test bandwidth and network loading.

Manage Equipment & Vendors

+ Add loops for new instruments in Honeywell TDC3000 and Honeywell Experion PKS as applicable.

+ Add new loops in Honeywell Systems.

+ Add and modify PLC ladder logic for Allen Bradley systems.

+ Configure OPC servers for cross system communication.

+ Assist in the design, implementation and monitoring of security systems.

+ Solicit proposals for upgrades or migrations from out of date or poorly functioning systems.

+ Create and implement advanced process control systems (APC).

+ Evaluate advanced process control proposals.

+ Configure historical collection systems.

+ Add advanced control to existing loops.

+ Create simulation system for testing control systems.

+ Test implementations to guarantee adequate performance.

+ Design and implement interfaces between various systems.

Perform system administrator functions

+ Backup Honeywell database and verify restore.

+ Design and implement backup servers for mission critical roles.

+ Install Windows and operaing systems.

+ Update software versions for Honeywell TDC3000 and Honeywell Experion PKS, including updating servers, workstations and operator stations.

+ Install patches on Windows servers.

Develop standards and procedures

+ Develops standards and procedures to perform various functions on systems and review work of engineers, vendors and contractors for compliance with and adherence to standards

+ Develop interlock standards.

+ Verify compliance with interlock standards.

+ Leverage tag naming and wire labelling standards, optimize as needed.

Training

+ Train others in proper, effective use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of systems and networks

+ Train hourly employees in the use of Allen Bradley, Honeywell TDC3000 and Honeywell Experion PKS configuration and diagnostic software if applicable.

+ Train hourly employees to find root cause of control system problems.

+ Work with vendor in the training of instrument mechanics in use of AMS.

+ Demonstrated ability to effectively work with vendors, managers and production employees to achieve goals.

+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

+ Must be capable of understanding and troubleshooting complex industrial systems and equipment.

+ Understanding of LEAN manufacturing and Continuous Improvement (CI) concepts preferred.
