Our client is looking for
Sr. Project Accountant
candidates for a position located in
Fort Mill, South Carolina.
The Senior Project Accountant provides support in all aspects of project accounting including month-end close, cost and revenue accruals, cost review, profitability analysis, resource utilization, and effectively communicating projects progress to the business line finance analyst.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Ensure proper revenue and cost recognition on projects in accordance with company policies, including accruals. Lead month-end close activities while being a resource to project accounting team members when knowledge sharing opportunities arise. Perform monthly account reconciliations. Maintain an understanding of current corporate allocations and be a resource for operations with any inquiries relating to them. Maintain overall knowledge of projects for assigned area. Perform a high-level project analysis to highlight the main factors impacting project performance for the current period, while communicating financial risks. Provide research and support on inquiries from operations. Serve as liaison between corporate accounts payable/accounts receivable and operations as needed. Assist with inquiries from external auditors while maintaining adequate supporting documentation for the business units. Collaborate with team members to identify reporting issues/challenges from operation side. Identify potential areas of improvement as it relates to project accounting, while presenting ideas to direct management for further exploration. Prepare reporting on operating cost data, including contract labor accruals, per diem spend, and other items that may arise from time-to-time. Support process documenting while executing training of new team members where appropriate or assigned by manager. Support inquiries on monthly operating results. Perform other duties as assigned by management.


Education and Experience:


Preferred A Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or University in Accounting or experience equivalent to 5 years. 3-5 Year(s) Experience in Accounting



Language Skills:


Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals, operational procedures, etc. Ability to write reports, Business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information in one-on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

We are the world's largest producer of sustainable wood pellets, which provide a low-carbon alternative to fossil fuels.

Enviva, a high growth company, is looking for a strong Senior Project Accountant to join the Project Accounting group. This individual is responsible for the accounting and financial reporting of the large-scale greenfield construction projects. In the driver seat, this role will help Enviva turn an open field into a new manufacturing plant, enabling us to further our mission to displace coal, grow more trees, and fight climate change. Enviva has recently announced that we are planning to build 5 new greenfield production facilities over the next 6 years, and this role will play a critical part in ensuring that we accomplish that goal. This position will report into the Operations Finance Manager and will be located in Raleigh or Bethesda.
Responsibilities

Support regular presentation of project performance showing commitments to-date, spend to-date, forecasted spend, and budget adjustments through the project life cycle. Preparation of all monthly financial reports including but not limited to month-end accruals for construction in progress per GAAP and company guidelines with supporting documentation. Tracking of all project purchase order commitments, spend and invoicing against appropriate phase and construction category for accurate reporting and decision making. Participate in the formation and implementation of project financial presentations and forecast modeling. Work with outside suppliers during monthly close-out procedures to ensure correct invoice accruals and timely receipt of all goods and services during project life cycle. Work with project management staff ensuring proper compliance with accounting procedures including reviewing, updating, and analyzing job cost estimates, invoicing and spend reports monthly. Regular communication with Project Managers, Project Budget Controllers, Procurement and Corporate Accounting to ensure that all project finances are accurately reflected and reconciled. Responsible for ensuring that all purchase orders have been properly approved within company authorization levels. Support Fixed Assets during the transition of placing assets in service at the end of project life cycle. Proper capture, reporting, and accrual of all sales tax liabilities and the coordination of monthly filings. Process all vendor invoices, identify any purchase order variances with the Budget Controller and obtain approval for payment per the guidelines of the company's invoicing process. Responsible for the accurate coding and processing of invoices including lien waiver requirements, retainage calculations and retainage payments. Investigate and resolve all discrepancies associated with the processing of invoices, account reconciliations, and project reports. Provide project reporting as required by Senior and Project Management.


Strategic Initiative Responsibilities


Creating new accounting/operations procedures to prepare and manage rapidly growing entity and the evolving business structure. Develop and maintain relationships with key internal partners including Accounts Payable, Treasury, Corporate Accounting, etc. that will support and grow the business Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends


Minimum Qualifications


B.A. / B.S. in Accounting, Finance, or related field 4+ years combined experience in Project or Construction Accounting Motivated self-starter with the ability to present data to Senior Management Ability to multi-task, meet tight deadlines, and manage high volume transactions Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong analytical skills Strong MS Excel, Word and accounting systems skills Highly organized with attention to detail Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with all levels of staff Willingness to learn Project Controls systems and processes (Scheduling, Quantity Surveying, etc.)

The Senior Project Accountant will be accountable for setting up projects in the accounting system, contract administration, job costing, monitoring the financial progress of projects, and ensuring that project billings are issued to clients and payments collected. It requires frequent interaction with other accounting staff in dealing with billing issues, project expenses, profit recognition, and project financial performance. It also interfaces with virtually every area of operations including Senior Management, Controller, sales staff and project managers. The Senior Project Accountant works closely with project managers to facilitate the billing process and performs project financial analysis for a particular project or group of projects. The Senior Project Accountant is also required to assist with other accounting functions which may include monthly close, journal entries, maintaining balance sheet schedules, backfilling for all levels of accounting staff, and special projects.

Project Accounting
