Role Description
We are looking for a hands-on individual to help us develop our core technology by contributing to our prototype assembly of huge batteries. In this role, individuals will work directly with our Battery Module Development and Systems Engineering teams to spend time in the laboratory machining, building, or troubleshooting massive grid-scale cell builds. The ideal candidate will be familiar with typical battery designs and failure modes in order to best inform our initial efforts to build batteries of this size. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an individual to apply their existing experience with electrochemical devices to directly impact the development of a breakthrough technology.
What you'll do:Build Form's largest battery test vehicles and systems Inspect, organize and prepare device components and hardware Document and organize device assembly notes for performance traceability Monitor and offer recommendations for keeping Battery Module Assembly SOPs up to date Facilitate installation and assembly of new equipment Lead workshop and laboratory continuous improvement efforts Help train and mentor a growing team of technicians, engineers, and scientists
What you'll bring:7+ years of experience relating to mechanical or electrochemical lab work Familiarity working with tools ranging from delicate laboratory instruments to machinery such as hydraulic presses, wrenches, power washers, or powered hand tools Experience with laboratory waste streams and general chemical hygiene Written and oral communication skills within a group of peers and broader organization Comfort using digital tools. We use Asana, Slack, Confluence, and GSuite among others

Your Opportunity
In this role you will use your understanding of science or engineering to perform the basic and critical experimental work of applied research and/or development, including planning experiments, generating, and analyzing data, as relevant to the business needs. You will plan and execute a broad range of technical tasks. Your work is typically “hands on,” at the benchtop, in a lab, in a plant or pilot plant, at a critical site, on a computer or with consumers

Your primary responsibilities will include:
Design products based on a business need, as defined by consumer insights, a product brief and learning plan, while under guidance of a manager Formulate products based on ingredient functionality, nutritional targets, consumer need, claim substantiation, operational feasibility, and financial targets Conduct experiments from rapid, iterative prototyping to development and scale-up (benchtop, pilot plant, plant) Review and interpret data, from process trials, measurements from chemical/physical analysis, feeding studies, storage studies, statistical analysis, providing conclusions and recommendations Partner with other disciplines and resources, both internal and external to R&D and JMS, sharing information, building upon an integration of ideas Compose new and update existing documents such as specs (ingredients, finished product), reports, project updates, data analyses, laboratory notebooks, etc.Share and present technical data internally and externally to R&D, both verbal and written

B.S. Degree in Science, Technology, or Engineering2+ years' experience with Food, Pet Food and/or Pet Snacks formulation/product development (including Internships/Co Op experiences. We are currently seeking a Senior R&D Technician to help perform li-ion abuse testing for Battery Safety. This position requires an experienced professional with hands-on experience on testing preparation. Our ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude and approaches his or her work with vigor and determination. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate excellence in their respective fields, to possess the ability to learn quickly and to strive for perfection within a fast-paced environment.
The Role:Lead the sample preparation for cell, module and pack level abuse testing.Organize the sample instrumentation to meet the testing timelines. Order and install thermocouples, accelerometers, pressure sensors.Document test setup details and incidents found during setup and testing. Fabricate and support the fabrication by the machine shop of features (jigs, fixtures, enclosures, wire harnesses…) required by the testing needs. Organize, label, and store test samples and components. Perform functional battery rework to meet the abuse test specifications. Support battery teardown analysis after test and packaging for recycling. Always operate and maintain a safe working environment for all employees.
Qualifications: Wide variety of experience repairing and replacing components on vehicle. Electric vehicle experience preferred. Ability to operate a wide variety of tools and shop equipment. Ability to fabricate steel and aluminum fixtures using a variety of fabrication and machine shop equipment.Ability to use computers effectively for communication and reporting (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Ability to communicate effectively in all forms (verbal, calls, texts, emails). A go-getter attitude and the desire to do things right. Ability to maintain an organized and clean laboratory work environment. Adhere to and enforce 5S standards. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability and willingness to travel to domestic and internationally test facilities.
Advantageous: 3+ years of experience in the field of automotive. Knowledge of battery related testing procedure and risk mitigations.Experience with performing battery tear-downs and post mortem analysis.A history of working independently with limited oversight or input once a base understanding has been established.An ability to mitigate unforeseen problems creatively and effectively. Experience working with high-voltage, high current systems (power supplies, batteries, etc.). Effectively handle multiple priorities, organize workload, and meet deadlines. Maintain top level professional integrity and appearance as a test technician.
Education: An Associate Degree in Engineering or Automotive Technology from an accredited institution or Automotive OEM Test Technician Training and/or equivalent work or degree experience.
