Specific duties (with expected percentage of overall workload being noted above each group of tasks) will include:

* Developing criteria for the selection of consumer products to be analyzed for restricted chemicals.
* Developing and implementing appropriate screening techniques and conducting sample preparation steps in accordance with lab guidance prior to shipment to a contract laboratory.
* Conducting research and consulting with other research scientist staff in Unit to evaluate appropriateness and effectiveness of consumer product sampling techniques and analytical methods used in assessing compliance of consumer products with toxic chemical restrictions.
* Conducting literature reviews and research to identify and evaluate sources of chemical hazard information and chemical usage data in the development of regulations for the Household Cleansing Product Information Disclosure (HCPID) program
* Independently conducting research to identify trends in consumer product testing data to determine characteristics that indicate toxicity in a manner that informs future product purchasing and testing efforts.

What we're looking for
We are looking for a (Senior) Scientist to join our Large Libraries team and drive the development of high-throughput screening capabilities. You will bring deep expertise in microfluidics to complement our existing yeast display and FACS capabilities, enabling us to generate massive-scale datasets with >10^6 data points. These datasets will power the Cradle platform to strengthen design recommendations, accelerate protein optimization, and deepen our understanding of protein optimization across applications.
As a (Senior) Scientist, you will be a hands-on technical leader: designing and executing experiments, developing novel methods, and driving projects from concept to completion. You will work closely with our ML team to ensure experimental workflows generate the high-quality, ML-ready data our platform requires.

Your background

The mission of the Waymo AI Foundations team is to develop machine learning solutions addressing open problems in autonomous driving, towards the goal of safely operating Waymo vehicles in dozens of cities and under all driving conditions. As part of our work, we also initiate and foster collaborations with other research teams in Alphabet. AI Foundations areas that we are currently focusing on include reinforcement learning, learning from demonstration, generative modeling, Bayesian inference, hierarchical learning, and robust evaluation.

You will
Solve fundamental and applied research problems related to large-scale 3D dynamic scene reconstruction from real-world scenarios, scene synthesis using generative models, and combining reconstructive and generative methods to power AV simulations
Advance, adapt and scale state-of-the-art ML-based reconstruction methods, such as 3D Gaussian Splatting, to the problem of AV simulation
Prototype and iterate on various research ideas using Waymo's internal driving data

Present research findings to a wide audience within Waymo and Alphabet, with the possibility of publishing results to the research community
You have
