Senior structural engineer job description

The purpose of this Performance Work Statement (PWS) is to provide engineering support to the NASA Engineering Technical Performance Division (NE-T). The services that are required include the following roles:

Sr. Structural Engineer - Must be proficient in design of steel structures, and proficient in structural analysis such as ANSYS, GT Strudl or other analytical software; and must be proficient in welded and bolted design including weld sizing and selection.

The Engineers will interface with the Government's Design and Construction Management teams for communication of technical information about the project(s). The personnel will support multiple projects in various stages of the Project Lifecycle as defined in the BPA.
Requirements

Candidate must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree in structural engineering or a related engineering field from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs. Degrees in engineering technology are NOT considered qualifying for this position.

Engineering degrees earned outside the United States must be recognized by a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) often known as accords. These are non-governmental agreements among organizations that accredit academic degree programs. MRAs recognize the substantial equivalence of mature accreditation systems and programs accredited by signatory organizations within their jurisdictions.

Candidate must be able to demonstrate at least seven (7) years' relevant experience. Professional Engineering license preferred.

In addition to the scope of work defined in the BPA, the Senior Structural Engineer shall:

a. Be proficient with the use of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook), Adobe Pro and AutoCAD and cost estimating software. The government will issue a computer for use.

b. Be fluent in American English, both written and spoken, grammar, spelling and technical report writing.

c. Be capable of walking on uneven surfaces such as may be encountered on a construction site inspection up to 1 mile. Be capable of standing for extended periods in the heat and a variety of weather conditions. Be able to climb stairs and a ladder without assistance. Be able to bend and reach to visually inspect equipment installations and site conditions.

System One is currently seeking a Project Manager with a strong background in Structural Engineering for an Engineering and Construction company in Golden, CO. Qualified candidates will have a minimum of 5 years experience in civil / structural engineering and project management experience for industrial projects (power plants, cooling towers, petrochemical plants). Job Summary

• The position entails structural analysis of cooling towers throughout North America. Successful candidate will be well versed in design and building codes as well as structural design software pertaining to wind, seismic and vertical loading requirements typical to a cooling tower. Materials consist primarily of Pultruded FRP structure, Wood structure, Steel mechanical supports and Concrete basins.
• This position also performs project management duties on various projects from cradle to grave. This includes the design phase of a project, the procurement stage, and the construction phase. Monitoring field progress and delivery of materials in paramount and by working closely with construction superintendents and procurement the successful candidate will ensure materials are ordered, manufactured and delivered on time to support the overall project while maintaining project budgets and schedules.

Responsibilities

• Structural Analysis of all cooling towers.
• Familiarity with North America codes for structural design.
• Manage multiple projects in ground up construction and reconstruction projects
• Review new projects when handed off from the sales team
• Trouble shoot existing structural related issues both in house on design as well as in the field.
• Schedule projects using MS Project of P6 with the construction and procurement teams
• Review contracts, correspondence and proposals for scope conformance
• Resolve issues from customers, field construction, materials management, and/or engineering
• Manage project resources, personnel, deliverables, develop payment schedules, and complete all required correspondence between the customer and the company
• Coordinate with Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable regarding invoices and payments
• Pursue change orders due to changes in project scope
• Protect gross margins through daily communication with the construction superintendent and procurement material contracts
• Successful candidate will establish and lead the project team by facilitating and nurturing lines of communication between project members of various disciplines, including engineering, purchasing, expediting, finance, and field construction crews
• Develop and maintain financial forecasts of revenues and costs generated by active projects on a weekly basis
• Travel to vendors and customer sites for customer meetings and to resolve potential issues that may arise including project closeouts

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering with 5 years experience in structural analysis.
• Experience with power plant and petrochemical plants (retrofits and new construction) preferred
• Cooling Tower experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, MS Project, Outlook, P6 and RISA.

+ Develops, modifies and reviews models, plans, details and drawings of structural engineering systems and components according to established standards and modeling techniques

+ Utilizes knowledge and experience in applying modeling principles for complete and accurate drawings

+ Provides mentoring to junior staff and contributes to their professional development

+ Assist managers with client interface and growing the business

+ Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

+ Bachelors degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or ABET accredited discipline

+ Professional Engineer (PE) license or Structural Engineer (SE) license

+ 8+ years of related work experience managing multiple projects and familiar with Revit, AutoCAD, RISA 3D, Floor and Foundation

+ Experience working with a variety of structural materials and systems

+ Basic knowledge about sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines preferred

+ Experience with parking garage and industrial structure design preferred

+ Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, matrixed environment

+ Ability to provide excellent customer service

+ Strong technical proficiency required, including Microsoft Office products

+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills in a dynamic environment

+ Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment; offer constructive feedback and direction to support goals

+ Willingness to travel under current safety protocols to project sites or offices as needed based on assigned projects or as required for team collaboration
