Digital Systems department at NIO is responsible for building highly reliable, secure, and scalable infrastructure and platforms for intelligent and fully autonomous driving vehicles, and its scope ranges from vehicle operating system software platform, central computer and SOA-based digital architecture, automation simulation test platforms, cyber security, vehicle cloud & connectivity.

A primary mission of Digital Systems North America R&D Center is to lead the research and development of industry-leading operating systems for autonomous driving vehicles (NVOS - NIO Vehicle Operating System) from the ground up. This is an opportunity to solve a wide range of technical challenges, such as building a high-performance & secure OS based on microkernel architecture, deeply customized Linux and in-house hypervisor for automobile-grade safety, seamless app development on heterogeneous hardware chipsets, low-latency and high throughput data processing, powerful AI framework, and complete toolchains to supply Android-like development experiences.

We are looking for an experienced Real Time System Software Architect in North America R&D Center to help accelerate bringing the innovation to mass production for NVOS. This position can be based in San Jose, CA, Seattle, WA or Boise, ID.

ResponsibilitiesLead the architectural designs of system software (including vehicle real time operating system and hypervisor), frameworks, and tools for the next generation central computing system of NIO's automotive platform.Lead the proof-of-concept development to evaluate the architectural designs in terms of functionality, performance, security, and dependability.Partner with engineering teams to understand real-world constraints and to support the high-quality implementation of the designs on mass-produced vehicles.Dissect and debate design alternatives and make rational decisions based on facts.Research key technologies related to software-defined vehicles, such as virtualization, redundant networking, robotic software frameworks.Define the evolution roadmap for system software.Deliver accurate technical documentations.Follow industry trends and study competitors' technical stacks.

Qualifications5+ years architecture experience in researching, designing, and prototyping real-time systems10+ years development experience of building and evaluating dependable systems.In-depth understanding of real-time and embedded systems, virtualization technology, kernel internals, Arm architecture, and system design trade-offs.Masters or PhD degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or related technology degree.Great communication skills. Ability to influence and socialize technical ideas across the engineering organization.More importantly, a self-motivated researcher who enjoys exploring “undefined” territory, and solving hard problems, and building systems from the lowest level if needed.

Engaging in architectural design of the high-speed, high-performance analog / mixed-signal circuit and systems, you have the chance to create the technical differentiation for Infinera to hold the market leadership. We together will revolutionize the era of efficient high-speed transmission.
Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities:
Model the circuit blocks and mixed-signal IPs, including but not limited to high-speed ADCs, DACs, CTLE, FFE, and PLLs, to work with the circuit design expert to achieve the best performance trade-offs.Design the equalization and calibration algorithms to optimize the overall system performance.Work with the circuit design team to keep track of budgeting for jitter, noise, linearity, etc., and optimize the overall system performance.Work with the RTL team to implement the algorithm.Work with the verification team to generate the adequate behavior model of the circuits to ensure the robustness of the design.

Mandatory Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Have prominent tracking record in designing and modeling high speed systems and its mixed-signal blocks, including but limited to SERDES, optical links, and wireless transmission systems.Extremely fluent in DSP theories and algorithms.Hands-on in modeling and simulating with Matlab, Simulink, and/or C, C++.Extensive experience in algorithms for channel equalization, CDR, channel coding, and error corrections schemes such as LDPC.Have a decent understanding in CMOS analog / mixed signal design.

Preferred Knowledge/Skill/Abilities:
Able to create IBIS-AMI model.Can code in System-Verilog.Fluent in verbal and written communications.Independently resolves issues and conquer design challenges.Self-motivated and detail oriented.Has good interpersonal skills.

Education and Experience Requirements:
M.S. in E.E. with 12+ years' experience, or Ph.D. in E.E. with 8+ years' experience

What success looks like in this role:

As a Senior System Architect you will be working on a number of projects that we are delivering with the help of another vendor (Pega Consulting), while we build our internal Pega capability.

You will deliver value by:
Design and build components of Pega enterprise applications to some of the world's leading organizations on all project assignments.Partner with both the client and the business team to develop high quality deliverables across all phases of a project, from participating in the requirements, design and build phases; delivering high-quality deliverables, through to user acceptance testing.You will work as a Pega senior system architect building and designing Pega platform and frameworks, undertake options analysis to design optimum solution and present the solution to the customer jointly with the Lead Solution ArchitectSet and manage standards and guidelines for Pega development and maintenance Guide future adoption of Pega functionality, build and sell business cases for Pega extensions to our Clients Architecture team once Pega team finish their contract (after 6 months into the engagement) Provide technical training and user support to technical and business groups.Provide mentoring and support to the Internal Unisys team
