The Senior Availability Engineer is responsible for managing and improving Colocation infrastructure availability, incident response, and technical risk management across global infrastructure design and operations. This role requires collaboration with various teams and stakeholders at all levels to ensure system reliability and implement strategic improvements. As technical leader facing uncertainty, you will decompose complex problems into straightforward and actionable solutions. Key job responsibilities - Develop global lessons learnt strategies through incident management processes, including emergency (FOC) calls participation, 48-hour report contribution, and implementation of lessons learned using 5 whys methodology. - Review and technical inspect Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and lead discussions for the corrective actions related to site/equipment failures. Directly support operational issues escalations including some on-call event support. - Contribute to regular Colocation availability reporting for Senior Leadership. - Define Corrective global program implementation through strategic action plans, workflows development, and mentoring of regional teams. - Provide strategic technical direction for the SPOF (Single Point of Failure) program, including availability strategies, approval of remediation designs, and global Risk Reduction Library. - Participate in Infra Project reviews and Approvals (CIMAP/HIMAPS, including accepted deviation endorsement and documentation review. - Handle technical escalations on first-of-a-kind design features, projects and product deployments. Provide strategic availability recommendations for sites globally. - Drive process improvement initiatives, including Colo Regional Engineering training and mentoring activities, and contribute to the Infrastructure Risk Prioritization Scoring. - 25% international travel. Their scope encompasses developing and maintaining engineering standards aligned with AWS Basis of Design performance objectives, while establishing standards for colocation-specific technologies. The team supports AWS product colocation readiness, assists with pioneering design implementations, and derives strategic insights from global infrastructure availability incidents. Through standardization of technical designs and availability support, CoDeS enables efficient, consistent, and lower-risk capacity deployment to meet customer needs. MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT: As a Telecommunications Engineer Lead for our LAN Support program, you will be working on-site in a hybrid set up. You will be responsible for the tasks assigned to you by work orders, incidents, change requests, or other work requests to complete assigned tasks. The implementation of the standardization of NIPR and SIPR networks. The Position is onsite/Hybrid with minimal possible travel. Configuring and deploying devices in accordance with DLA LAN standards. Providing technical support for enterprise-wide LAN technology refreshes and upgrades. Completing site surveys to determine or confirm deployment requirements and facility limitations. Draft, maintain, and implement installation and technical design plans. Develop and submit ECRs, ITRs, NSO requests, after action reports, as-built diagrams, test plans, and test reports, weekly activity reports. Installation, testing, configuring, and transitioning to sustainment of DLA network equipment. Complete work in accordance with assigned Work Orders and Incidents as well as approved CR activities and tasks. Works under general supervision, developing the requirements of a product from inception to conclusion. Develops required specifications for simple to moderately complex problems. Coordinates with the Vendor PM, COTRs, and government user representatives to ensure accurate solutions and user satisfaction on technical matters. WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED - REQUIRED: Clearance: Secret Sensitivity Level: IT-I - Critical Sensitive Certifications: DoD 8570 IAT II Compliant Certification (i.e. CompTIA Sec+, CASP, CISSP, etc). Computing Environment: Cisco computing environment - CCNA, CCNP or CCIE. Education: High School Diploma Year's Experience: Must have 5 years' network operations experience. Skills & Abilities: Experience in managing the evaluation and cost estimation of voice and data LAN services from telecommunications carriers, designing access and backbone networks using carrier services, or in managing the analysis and design of wireless voice or data networks (using private radio facilities or commercial services). Providing technical support for enterprise-wide LAN technology refreshes and upgrades. Provides technical and administrative direction for personnel responsible for telecommunications network design, implementation, and operations tasks, including the review of work products for correctness, adherence to the design concept and to user standards and progress in accordance with schedules. Makes recommendations, if needed, for approval of major network installations. Prepares milestone status reports, and deliveries/ presentations on network progress to colleagues, subordinates, and end user representatives. Must take applicable DLA and Host Activity site-specific safety training. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
