Netflix is building a new internal game studio to incubate and build a new class of hilarious, social party video games.

This Game Tools Engineer will work with the Lead Engineer and a cross-discipline core team to rapidly prototype and iterate towards a new game vision, building confidence on a great game prototype to eventually bring to full production and available to Netflix members. The role is envisioned as one that will start as a core contributor for a small team to enable rapid prototyping, which is hoped to eventually graduate to a full product team as the game vision matures

The ideal candidate should have a track record of accelerating teams ability to experiment with ideas via intuitive and effective tools in addition to enabling efficient content creation and development, and ideally have product and design sensibilities that inform ideating and implementing these tools - especially during the rapid prototyping phase of product development.

ResponsibilitiesGame tools development: Work hands-on with a small core, cross-functional team to ideate, plan, design and build tools that accelerate the prototyping of couch and multiplayer social game concepts, in a fast paced, iterative environment that will eventually graduate to a live game. Work closely with lead engineer and designer understanding the goals and needs that you are able to turn into tools that force multiply rapid prototyping and eventually production tools.

Requirements5+ years experience as an game tools engineer Exceptional communication, cross-discipline collaboration skills Familiarity with multiple game engines, flexible across a broad tech base Experience with enabling and accelerating designers, artists, and engineers making video games, especially in a rapid, focused, smaller form vs multi-year investments. Example tools experience include but not limited to:Game mechanics development and iteration for non engineers Artist workflows for in engine works Timelines and sequencing tools (ie for in engine cutscenes and other uses) Build and release automation

Bonus SkillsExperience building game tools for early or unfinished platforms Experience with tooling for rapid prototyping, with an emphasis with rapid learning Experience with tooling for sustainable development Familiarity with multiple game engine technologies such as Unity3D and UnrealEngine

Complete development assignments on time with an appropriate level of quality to support project efforts. Participate in a digital technology project from concept to implementation, and through all phases of the software development lifecycle Create work estimates based on technology concepts and requirements documentation. Required Skills & Experience:


BS/BA degree or equivalent experience 7+ years of combined software/application development experience 5+ years of experience developing large scale mobile applications using Java and Kotlin Understanding of architectural patterns such as MVP and MVVM Created 1 or more mobile applications available in Google's Android Market Expert knowledge in all phases of the mobile app development life cycle Experience working with large codebases, managing shared resources and libraries Experienced working with a variety of stakeholders across technology and business groups

The Senior Toolmaker will be responsible for the build and repair of tools and fixtures of all types with efficiency and precision. Job Duties for the Senior Toolmaker near Buffalo, NY are the following:

• Studies specifications from CAD models, blueprints, sketches or tool descriptions and plans sequence of operation to construct.
• Operates tool room equipment at a high-level of competency which may include, but is also not limited to: CNC mill, CNC Electrical Discharge Machines (EDMs), manual and/or wire EDMs, surface grinders, manual mills, manual lathes, drill presses, and array of hand tools.
• Troubleshoots and repairs a variety of stages of tooling.
• Plans, constructs, and repairs a variety of tool, dies, jigs, gauges and fixtures to close tolerances.
• Demonstrates high-level expertise and experience with equipment.
• Stays abreast of new and developing technology required for position in order to account for any possible changes.
• May provide guidance to lower-level Toolmakers.
• Maintain proper documentation of work produced.
• Interacts horizontally with R&D, PD&E, EHSS, Production, and Quality Associates on a daily basis.

Qualifications:

• Minimum Education: High School graduate required. Associate Degree or Bachelor's Degree in a technical field preferred.
• Minimum Experience: High school graduate with 7+ years of related experience. Associate's Degree with 4-6 years of related experience. Bachelor's Degree with 1-2 years of related experience. Journeymen certification/paperwork also may be required.

Additional Skills:

• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to apply it in operating tool room equipment. Demonstrated competency at the master level as defined by the National Institute of Metalworking Skills(NIMS).
• Basic TIG or Tool room welding are a plus.
• Specialized Knowledge: Ability to read, interpret and understand blueprints. Strong computer operation skills.
